Mattie Zook files a lawsuit against a neighbor who is dumping trash on her family's farm in Pennsylvania. Her father decides to send her to stay with her Aunt in Colorado because filing a lawsuit is a very un-Amish thing to do. Mattie is soon embroiled in fighting injustice again in Colorado when she decides to run against a hateful town council member who has put an unfair restriction on the local Amish to prevent them from driving their buggies in town. Freeman Sensenig is looking for someone to court and he thinks Mattie is beautiful but also thinks she is snobbish and out of bounds with her actions. He is soon embroiled in her campaign as well (campaign manager), much to the chagrin of his father and the bishop. This is a fun tale with lots of surprising twists and turns.

I read a lot of Amish fiction, but really enjoyed this one because the premise was so very different from many of the other stories!! Sure, there's romance, and there's brokenness and healing, but there's some fight...and I enjoyed that. It was the road less travelled for this author, and I'd like to see more like this from her in the future!

Loved this sweet book. It definitely offers a lot of hope and teaches a lesson as well.
It's what I love about these Amish stories.
Jennifer Beckstrand does an awesome job in keeping my attention the whole way through.
Mattie is something else and she just goes to show you what you can do if you out your mind to it. I liked her immediately.
I really admired her. She definitely has spunk. I love that in a character and she enigmatic too.
Karma does come around eventually.
Esther and Levi I loved for taking Mattie in and for putting up with her! They're good ppl and I loved how Beckstrand has made them come to life.
I always look forward to seeing what Beckstrand comes.out with next. Her stories never disappoint either. She's one of my favorite Amish authors.
My favorite was Anna and Felty. They're a hoot!
This novel is very entertaining and will make u smile and want to make you very angry at times too.
So very good!
5 stars for a job well done! I highly recommend!

The story a wholesome Amish romance, but is so much more. It is the story of a strong young Amish woman's struggling with her faith and desire to fulfill anger inner desires while maintaining there faith.

Mattie's desire to run for town council is a challenge she can't resist, but she is doing it for her community to help fight the discrimination of the Amish. Many in the Amish community don't see it this way and are horrified by Mattie's choices.

I found the story enjoyable and was enlightened by the beliefs portrayed by the Amish characters presented in the story.

The characters, plot and individual events were believable.

This was a great book. Mattie came from Amish County Pennsylvania to spend time with her aunts like her family wanted.
Mattie wasn't happy about a new rule or law about horses and buggies not being allowed on the streets or highways. She fought for it by becoming a member of city council and she got in city council. This book just shows that if you fight for something you believe you can make it come true to help show people it's the right thing to do it gives inspiration.
