Thank you Netgalley for the advance reader copy of Until the End by Derek Landy in exchange for an honest review. I love these books so much. They really should have a bigger following than Harry Potter. We'll written and creative, fun and suspenseful and each story grows on the previous. I have found I prefer to listen to them over reading them, as the accents and intensity are better.

I first picked up Skulduggery Pleasant 1 about 10 years ago based off the description and figured why the hell not give it a shot? I was thrown face first into this astounding world with mind-blowing events, bada** characters, amusing & hilarious conversations. Derek Landy once again amazes me with his writing. I love how he write the characters, there's great world building, suspense and monologue... Although, there's less comedic value and more serious conversation and situations.

Thank you so much to Derek Landy for this adventure, HarperCollins and Netgalley for the ARC. All opinions are my own.

I was a huge Skulduggery fan when this series first started, and inhaled each new book as soon as it came out. This one is number 15, and marks the end of the second story arc. It certainly appears that a third cycle is in the works. But, reflecting on the series as a whole I have to say that I enjoyed the first books the most. There was humor and casual slapstick and an open and airy sense of fun and magic and snappy banter and adventure. Since then, book by book, we've become serious and complex and, often, remarkably humorless. So, this is a perfectly fine conclusion to the latest adventure, but I'm not sure it was all that much fun to read. And this is probably it for me.

(Please note that I received a free ecopy of this book without a review requirement, or any influence regarding review content should I choose to post a review. Apart from that I have no connection at all to either the author or the publisher of this book.)

I am always surprised that this series isn't more popular. The books are fun and funny, but there are so many twists and turns that you never get to relax into the story. There's lots of action, and magic, and adventure. I can't say that I expected the ending, because I'd given up trying to guess what would happen a long time ago. It's definitely worth the time, if you haven't read any of the books, to sit down and read them from the beginning before you read this one.

Until the End is the 15th book (and the last in this cycle) of the Skulduggery Pleasant series by Derek Landy. Released 5th July 2022 by Harper Collins on their HC Children's imprint, it's 656 pages and is available in all formats. It's worth noting that the ebook format has a handy interactive table of contents as well as interactive links and references throughout. I've really become enamored of ebooks with interactive formats lately; it makes it much easier to find particular text with the search function.

This is an epic YA adventure series with loads of action and a lot more edge than most YA fantasy advenures. This is the last book in this "cycle" (subseries) and as such, especially for readers who are new to the overarching series, it really cannot be read as a standalone without utter confusion/frustration. This cycle begins with book 10, Resurrection, and it's highly recommended as a starting point for readers who don't want to or can't start with book 1.

The writing is consistently better than average and the author combines wit and sarcasm with drama into a dark melange which is engaging and full of suspense. There are -so- many characters and so many disparate plot threads flying around that using a searchable format or taking careful notes is almost a must (it's a *huge* book). Some of the book felt a bit rushed toward the end. It's a massive volume and I can only imagine that it must've been like trying to birth an elephant - huge achievement but in the end you just want it to end as soon as possible.

Four and a half stars; five for the target audience. Current long time fans of the series will be in raptures.

Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.

This is the 15th book in a series and I have not read any of the others. While I wasn’t lost, I felt that there was a lot of context that I was missing. It was also pretty depressing. Sure, there was a shocker that kept it exciting but it doesn’t end here, whatever the book blurb says. At least, for the faithful I hope it isn’t.

I don’t think I am the best person to review this without having read the other books and forming an attachment to the characters. It just didn’t click for me.

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC in return for an honest review.

Action packed and interesting. You definitely need to read the first book to have a good grip on the characters, terms and context. Without that a new reader will be lost - so go back and read the first then come back for this. Glad for this second installment! Great for young adult genre fans.
