Couldn’t get into it so I had to dnf.

This was a quick and easy listen, but the writing could have used some work. I’m unsure of the ending and it was very repetitive. (The amount of times the word “sis” is used was enough to drive me nuts!)

Thank you Netgalley for an ARC! I liked the concept of this book but it was slow and hard to get in to that I didn't fall in love with it. I rate this book a 2.1

"In the Dark We Forget" by Sandra SG Wong earns a respectable 3-star rating from me. Wong's writing style is engaging and evocative, creating a vivid atmosphere for the story. The central premise, involving forgotten memories and dark secrets, is intriguing and promises a gripping narrative. Wong's character development is noteworthy, with complex and relatable protagonists. However, the pacing occasionally feels uneven, with moments of intense action followed by slower, less engaging passages. While the book held my interest, it didn't quite deliver the level of suspense and surprises I typically seek in a thriller. Nonetheless, "In the Dark We Forget" remains a solid read for those who enjoy psychological thrillers with a focus on memory and secrets.

An amazing roller coaster of a story. Very hard to put down and I really liked the local flavours. Looking forward to Sandra’s next work.

I thought this book was ok. I thought it was long and boring. Parts seemed to drag on but then it picked up and I couldn’t put it down!

Wow! Buckle up, kids, this is one heck of a rollercoaster ride! You will not want to put this down! Our main character has amnesia. She cannot remember her name, or what happened to her, but she feels as if she's in danger.

That's all I'm telling you about the plot because you have to read this one for yourself. Don't go looking for reviews or even pay attention to the synopsis because you'll want to have the gasp out loud moments. Finding out certain things as you read will keep you on the edge of your seat.

The book is fast-paced, absorbing, and entertaining. I can't wait to read more books by this author.

Not a big fan. I wanted to like this, but kept finding myself skimming the pages and getting distracted. I could not get lost in this book, forced myself to read it. It was very confusing at times.

I'll admit, the cover got me. I love a pop of pink. That said, this was an interesting thriller. It was a bit slow to get into but kept me engaged and interested in the story.

Wow! This was so good that I couldn't put it down and had to keep reading until the end. This examination of family and memory will keep you guessing until the end. A thoroughly satisfying roller-coaster of a read!

Finally a book that has the amnesia trope done correctly!!!!!

I’m obsessed with this book. It had such great conversations, good twists, atmospheric writing, and focuses on aspects of the Asian American culture that I found so interesting to read about.

Highly highly recommend

In The Dark We Forget is a story of a woman who wakes up on the side of the road not knowing who she is or how she got there. I'm sorry to say that by the end of the book only one of those questions is really answered. Less a thriller or mystery and more of a book about being a woman in a Chinese family, if you're looking for definitive answers- this book isn't going to give them to you.

I really wanted to like this book, but sadly it dragged along and I couldn't seem to focus on the plot. The premise was good...a woman wakes up beside a Canadian highway with no memory of who she is then discovers her parents are missing after winning a $47 million lottery ticket. There were some high points in the middle that caught my attention, but it was a bit of a slog until the exciting ending. I'm glad I pushed myself to finish and find out what happened though.

Spooky. Eerie. Awesome. A fresh voice in thrillers. This was like taking a huge gulp of fresh air. I loved everything about it.

I really enjoyed that this thriller also explored the Asian heritage and culture of the characters while dealing with the mystery. Admittedly, I myself don’t do a great job of reading these types of books so getting this on Netgalley was good for me to learn about their culture and how they treat daughters versus sons. I enjoyed the concept of this one. I liked that the main character slowly became less trustworthy as we learned more about her personality and her past. This one wasn’t the most captivating thriller I’ve ever read, but it kept me interested and engaged while also shocking me with the ending. I wouldn’t run to grab this one but if it falls into your lap, I definitely recommend it!!

In the Dark We Forget; I have mixed feelings about this book. I liked the story it was intense but moved slowly as a woman wakes up and discovers she doesn't remember anything. She has been left in a mountainous area and climbs her way to the side of the road. A woman picks her up and takes her to the RCMP where she gives her statement of what she remembers after waking up. She has injuries and to make sure she hasn't been raped she is taken to the hospital for an exam. She is grateful to find she has not been raped however she was drugged which explains her amnesia. While searching for where she was attacked, an employee at a lodge recognizes her and discloses they have only realized that her parents are missing. She reconnects with her brother recently welcomed back to the family after having been disowned. Cassius and Cleo will work together to find her parents and what happened to Cleo.

As Cleo fights to get her memories back, she finds out that she wasn't necessarily a nice person. She was fired from her job after many complaints to HR. While waiting in line for a coffee she is attacked by a former co-worker which is filmed by a woman observing it all which is then given to the RCPM. This attack adds to the mystery,

So, we have Cleo with amnesia, missing parents, Cleo is attacked for the second time, a returned son and a winning lottery ticket won by her mother and hidden to protect it and the family.

This story is intense, but slow moving with many events that may lead to the truth. The feelings Cleo endures due to her amnesia are understandable, but it is slowly revealed that Cleo is not as weak as her amnesia suggests. An intelligent, strong-willed woman with a sharp tongue Cleo soon finds herself a suspect as she has remembered a few memories. The ending is a bit disappointing as it is somewhat vague. While I like the story I was not pleased with the ending. It leaves the reader unclear in my opinion, there are many questions unresolved. I like books that surprise the reader thinking about them long after they have concluded. But this one left me with more questions. Again, I liked the story but wished for a more definitive ending.

Sandra S.G. Wong hits the ground running with this raw and emotional rollercoaster of a novel right from the get-go! Immediately thrusting her reader into the story as we join the main character, waking up with no recollection of who or where she is, or any memory of how she might've gotten there. It is a tale that exposes a traumatic family dynamic between a brother and sister as they peel and pick at old scabs, dredging up some of the family's history.

While this story leaves you asking yourself some questions... It is an even-paced, psychological thriller/mystery, well-written in a style that delves into the little details that only does more to help enrapture you in the author's story. I definitely recommend picking up this book if you're looking for a novel that will transport you into it's chapters; envisioning the tale as if it was happening before your very eyes.

This was a sloooooow mystery. Not a thriller. Had to put down and come back many times simply because it did not hold my attention especially in the beginning. The author was extremely descriptive, which while nice, made the book probably 100 pages too long. I also think the set up was too long - too many chapters having the main character try to figure out who she is. Started to get good after about 60%. I thought I knew who it was all along but I was very wrong. Not sure how I like a complete side character with no narration in the book as the “killer”. Ending was slightly abrupt, but I did like how it left things open to interpretation a little. Did he or did she? 3 stars for the slowness.

This one did not amaze me like the description made me think it would. It was still a decent book though.
It just wasn’t as creepy or as much of a thriller as I was expecting it to be.

In the dark we forget by Sandra Wong had a really great story line. Unfortunately to me the description was better than the book itself. I was really looking forward to reading this but I had a very hard time following along and keeping myself interested. Which I'm not gonna lie I am not easily entertained but this book just didn't do it for me. I found my self lost and re reading paragraph after paragraph. I will definitely be checking out her other books in the future because it does seem ms. wong has a lot potential as an author.
