Thanks to the publisher for the ARC of this cookbook.
I liked the recipes in this book a lot. Some of the personal commentary came off a little weird to me. But I did like the recipes.

I love delving into recipe books! I recently found Comfort Baking by Stephanie Wise on NetGalley and was excited to download it. The photographs show off delicious, colorful foods from appetizers to desserts. The author is a lifelong learner and advocate of comfort baking of all skill levels. I followed straight forward instructions for Baked Veggie Gnocchi. Not only was it delicious but easy to make. I liked how tips and save for later information was included. I'm excited to try more of Wise's recipes. If you like exploring new recipes and comfort baking then this is a book to look for. Happy reading (I mean eating), friends!

Author Stephanie Wise's baking book Comfort Baking contains plenty of baking tips, ideas and recipes that should make any baker happy. I loved her explanation of what she thought comfort baking meant. I loved her Christian emphasis and how she wrote of her faith.

Some of the recipes you'll find in her cookbook include:

Bakery-Style Double-Chocolate Muffins
Peaches and Cream Streusel Muffins
Chocolate Chip Sheet-Pan Pancake
Cinnamon Streusel Coffee Cake
Vanilla Confetti Cake
Yellow Birthday Cake with Milk Chocolate Buttercream Frosting
Pumpkin Meringue Pie
Fluffy Cheddar Biscuits
Sally Lunn Batter Bread
Mom's Shepherd's Pie
Biscuit-Topped Chicken Potpie

Recommend.

This book is a hug wrapped in a book cover. Full of food to bake, eat and share, it’s a cozy book that I’m looking forward to having flour-dusted and jam-stained in my kitchen. From quick breads for breakfast to bar cookies for your barbecue to a riff on a delicious, veggie and cheese forward breakfast casserole, this book has a bit of everything: and every bite is delicious.

Wise’s book is wise indeed- everything you might like to bake, in simple comforting easy steps. The recipes are clear, and I like that each section is in order from simplest recipe to more challenging- sometimes you just want a muffin, and sometimes you want a blueberry cardamom muffin! I bookmarked a bunch to try, and all of them seem completely doable for a beginner or an average baker like myself. I did find the last section of comfort savory dishes to be out of place- but they look delicious so I’ll give it a pass!

What’s your go to comfort food? Is it savory or sweet? Gooey? Cheesy? Chocolatey? Whichever it is, this book has you covered. With great recipes to provide some loving from the oven when you need it most.

As a former stress-baker who now doesn't even have time for that, this cookbook inspired me to hopefully get back into my kitchen (for comfort, ideally not because of stress) sometime soon. I love when a cookbook has photos with every recipe, and all of these ones look amazing. The instructions are simple to follow, with lots of information front-loaded about substitutions and best practices.

I also especially love the section on meals to bring to family and friends. I feel like that's a lost art these days, and a good reminder of how we can bring comfort to others with food.

I can see this becoming a well-loved kitchen staple!

Like many of us, the author turned to baking during the coronavirus pandemic, and thus Comfort Baking: Feel-Good Food to Savor and Share was born. This cookbook has a lot of helpful features for your baking journey, including a list of common ingredients, common kitchen tools, and tips/tricks. With the beautiful color spreads that accompany each recipe, even the newest baker will feel comfortable following these recipes. There is a recipe for everyone in this cookbook from muffins and breads, cookies and brownies, cakes and pies, to comfort meals.

Comfort Baking by Stephanie Wise is a cookbook that emerged from the author’s love of baking and her blog “Girl Versus Dough”. In the foreword, the author defines comfort baking as baking “something from scratch as a source of comfort, both in the act of baking and in the enjoyment of the end result.”

The book begins with common sense foundations of baking such as measuring flour properly, considering a disposable pan when giving baked goods, and reading the recipe. The author then describes basic ingredients and equipment, making this book an excellent choice for a novice baker.

There is something for every baker in this book. Some of my favorite recipes are the Spice Apple Cider Donut Muffins, Salted Caramel Apple Scones, Chai-spiced Monkey Break, and Gingerbread Sandwich Cookies. There’s even a section for meals to take to family and friends, although some of the recipes in this section seem to fall into the semi-homemade category. (I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy and all opinions are my own.). Overall, a solid entry into the genre of baking cookbooks.

Very good collection of recipes. The Bible comment in the beginning caught me off guard. The peanut butter and jelly babka is very similar to a recipe from Lucky Peach magazine years ago. Some new flavor combos that seem decent. I look forward to trying the recipes.

Beautiful photography and recipes that aren’t over the top but still look so yummy! Will be adding this to my collection.

I think this is a great baking book with a lot of variety in the types of recipes and an overall easy method for making all the items in the book.
Pros:
There were images to go along with every recipe. This helped to create a nice visual for figuring out if a recipe is one you'd be interested in without having to take the extra step of reading through the entire recipe. It also gives a great idea as to what the end result should look like.
The recipes were all pretty simple. Nothing looked like it had unnecessary steps or an overabundance of ingredients. If you like simple baking or are new to baking this is very helpful.
There was a lot of variety in the recipes with some classics like chocolate chip cookies and more unique bakes. This gave the book and recipes something unique about them without being so unrecognizable that only an advanced baker might be interested in exploring those sorts of recipes.
Cons:
I can't find any issues with this book.

Love the simplicity of this cookbook! Enticing images of the bakes that makes me crave the Spice Apple iCider Donut Muffins, who knew? All the recipes are straightforward and contain ingredients that can be found everywhere. I love to try new things, but when you can't find all the exotic ingredients it makes it kind of headache. I've always wanted to make a Dutch Baby, and there is a beautiful Mixed Berry recipes that I am eager to try. There are a lot of classics like the Soft and Pillowy Cinnamon Rolls, Gingerbread Sandwich Cookies, Classic Cheesecake and more! I will be buying this cookbook because there is so many recipes and they look so good!

I received a copy of this book through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This is a beautiful cook book!

There are great pictures of delicious desserts! It's a very traditional cook book - very few dietary modifications and real chocolate, sugar, etc. The recipes have a mix of ingredients including pantry staples and pre-made foods like marshmallows. There's a variety of recipes from scones to cookies and clear instructions. There's also a helpful introduction that talks about baking supplies and ingredients.

Overall a nice find!

I'm a huge cookbook lover and I absolutely love this book! I especially love to bake as a stress reliever so immediately related to the author. I appreciate that each recipe has a backstory AND pictures. Pictures for each recipe are so helpful for me to make sure mine is turning out right! There are so many thoughtful and fun recipes in this book. I can't wait to get my copy. I will be reviewing this on my Instagram and will make one of the recipes. I will link it when I am done.

I’ve been wanting to try a giant pancake recipe - all the deliciousness of pancakes with minimal effort. So when I saw the Chocolate Chip Sheet-Pan Pancake in Stephanie Wise’s upcoming Comfort Baking, I knew it’d be the first recipe I tried.

It was fun to make and came together so easily. Would be perfect for company when you don’t want to spend the whole morning in the kitchen. I added bacon (of course) and blueberries and love how versatile the recipe is. Would make again!

I have my eye on the Mixed Berry Dutch Baby recipe next. There are also cookies, cakes, brownies and lots more.

Comfort Baking will be out on October 18th! Keep an eye out for it! Thank you to Herald Press and @netgalley for the advanced release copy.
