When asked by a friend to investigate a ghost at a local museum/house, Gemma Doyle made it very clear that she believed it was a hoax and she was NOT a ghost hunter. Her police detective boyfriend rolls his eyes about the whole thing until the volunteer veterinarian falls to his death at the barn. Let the sleuthing begin! Add in an over-the-hill former pop star and a suddenly missing bookstore employee, and you have another winning mystery tale. Loved it!
I have read others in the series, but this does work well as a stand-alone. Loved it!
I requested and received a free temporary e-book copy from Crooked Lane Books via NetGalley. Thank you!

This is one of my favorite cozy series and this is probably the best book since the series started. The mystery had some of my favorite elements including a suspected ghost, although Gemma knows better than to blame the supernatural off the bat. The house museum and historical aspect of the story was also right up my alley. In addition to that, there were several side plots that set the series up for potential future books.

The other great thing about this book was how the connection between Gemma’s works and Sherlock’s grew, which I can’t elaborate on because spoilers, but one of my favorite characters made a comeback.

Thank you NetGalley for access to this book, I loved it and I’m already looking forward to the next book!

In this new outing of the Sherlock Holmes Bookshop mysteries, Gemma is asked to investigate a haunting at Scarlet House for the West London Historical Society. She is reluctant to do so and feels that kids are playing tricks on the volunteers. But as events escalate and someone dies, Gemma, along with her friends, begin to investigate. Does Scarlet House have something in its past, or is someone interested in the valuable property or is there a real ghost haunting the museum?
An enjoyable Cape Cod cozy mystery set in the tourist town of West London, Massachusetts and includes all the familiar characters that inhabit the town.
Thank you NetGalley and Crooked Lane Books for this e-galley of "The Game is a Footnote".

Scarlet House, now a historical re-enactment museum, is the oldest building in West London, Massachusetts. When things start moving around on their own, board members suggest that Gemma Doyle, owner of the Sherlock Holmes Bookshop and Emporium, might be able to get to the bottom of it. Gemma doesn't believe in ghosts, but she agrees to 'eliminate the impossible'. But when Gemma and Jayne stumble across a dead body on the property, they're forced to consider an all too physical threat.
Gemma and Jayne suspect foul play as they start to uncover more secrets about the museum. With the museum being a revolving door for potential killers, they have plenty of options for who might be the actual culprit.
Despite Gemma's determination not to get further involved, it would appear that once again, and much to the displeasure of Detective Ryan Ashburton, the game is afoot.
Will Gemma and Jayne be able to solve the mystery behind the haunted museum, or will they be the next to haunt it?

This is quite an interesting addition to this Sherlock Holmes style cozy mystery series.
I enjoyed the storyline, and Gemma’s insistence that Ashleigh, her employee and friend, was missing made me like her character even more.
The arrival of Gemma’s sister added a little twist to the investigation, which I enjoyed.
I’m looking forward to seeing what happens next with Gemma and friends.

Gemma Doyle faces another mystery - this time on behalf of her local historical society. What's stranger - there's a paranormal element? That her sister comes for an unexpected visit? Or that Officer Estrada is thaweing towards her?

I love this series, and hope to see wedding nuptials in the next one!

4.2/5

This was a nice cozy little mystery. I had read one previously in this series and was excited to be able to read this one.
It’s full of surprises, some I didn’t see coming at all. It’s a bit of a slow build and finishes with a bang.
Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for the early copy

This book was sent to me by Netgalley for review…this cozy mystery is intriguing, written by a talented author…the story moves quickly…is there a ghost? Who is it? The characters are quirky and fun…it reads almost like a true story…so real…cozy up in a comfy chair, grab a warm Afghan, a cup of herbal tea…enjoy an afternoon with this book…a delightful experience.

When strange things start happening at the Scarlet House, the museum board members ask Gemma to look into matters. Gemma is sure that ghosts aren't involved, but stakes are raised when a member is murdered. As she looks into the lives of those involved with the museum, she is also dealing with the sudden disappearance of her employee Ashleigh. When her sister makes a sudden appearance, Gemma knows there's more going on than the supposedly ghostly hauntings at Scarlet House.
Book 8 in the series - thanks to Netgalley for a copy.

Gemma owns and operates a Sherlock Holmes themed bookstore in a New England small town. When mysterious things start happening at the Scarlet house, a historic museum, Gemma is asked to look into it by a neighbor.
The story kept me coming back until I had finished it! I enjoyed getting to know Gemma, Ryan, Jayne and company throughout this story. They’re was an additional story line involving Ashleigh, an employee of Gemma at the bookstore, that didn’t quite fit with the rest of the storyline. Other then that this was an enjoyable read and a new series sto be on the look out for!

A Logical Explanation..
The eighth Sherlock Holmes Bookshop mystery and events take a supernatural turn when a body is discovered in a supposedly haunted museum. Gemma Doyle does not believe in ghosts - therefore there has to be a perfectly logical explanation for the odd occurrences at Scarlet House. She determines to get to the bottom of it all before a killer strikes again. With a varied and nicely drawn cast of characters, a well crafted backdrop and an enjoyable plot littered with red herrings this is another entertaining and enjoyable entry in the series.

I've enjoyed this series in the past. This newest want my favorite. I found Gemma so incredibly arrogant and self congratulatory that I skipped through the book quickly just to see the conclusion.
Thank you to NetGalley for the advance read .

Gemma is pressed into service to prove the Scarlett House is not haunted, even though she's not happy about being dragged into it. She investigates asking questions...enough that the caretaker of the farm is killed. Her shop assistant disappears without a trace one day. Is it connected? Strange things continue to occur as Gemma tries to find answers for all. Backup comes from an unexpected source and all the questions are answered in a spectacular way. I recommend this book for any cozy lover.
I requested and received a NetGalley ARC to peruse gratis and offer my opinion in the same.

In this story, it was stated that “So far this winter had been warmer than usual. That's not always a good thing.” I learned the importance of individuality from this statement.
It is true that in winter we often wish it were as hot as in summer because we struggle to survive the cold, but this is a characteristic of each season, and if these characteristics were lost, it would be the same as the loss of each individuality, so I realized that a different and slightly more comfortable everyday life is definitely not a good thing.
Also, this work, which incorporates elements of mystery in the ordinary daily life of people, was a very interesting read for me as a lover of mysteries.
