This picture book tells a story of a father and daughter relationship and how it changes when a banana takes up too much of dad’s time. While an adult will understand that the banana is a symbol for something else, I think that concept will be over a child’s head. The illustrations are very well done. Overall a clever story.

Thank you to the publisher and Net Galley for the advance e-copy in exchange for an honest review.

This is an interesting book. It’s based on this idea of the importance of banana. It’s like it’s a member of the family. However the father starts to do more with the banana and the daughter gets jealous. Not sure I’d read to my kid as I feel the story can be somewhat confusing. Great illustrations.

This was an interesting story. I couldn't figure out if it was a take on alcoholism, distraction, or what at first. I think if it was about distraction, it hit the mark. I liked the illustrations and the style of writing. I don't think will really get the deeper message, but adults will.

A weird article, this has a girl and her father getting on like a house on fire – until he buys a magical banana, which slowly proceeds to get in the way of things and force them apart. Now, I can see that it's clearly not a banana, it is An Issue, but I do wonder if the book should not be more explicit about what kind of Issue it is. Still, whether you find your parent distracted by a new partner, a new car, a second career or anything, this may be of some reassurance. Or you may just be befuddled about the weirdness coming out of the banana as it goes about its banana-ey business. Three and a half peels.

First can I just say that I absolutely love the cover of this book!

Just from the cover alone, I can tell you that this is a fun story about a relationship between a father and a daughter. That and and a banana. Just one, and dad is a little obsessed with it.

Bananas are fun and then you eat them before they cause you any troubles. Got it.

Jokes aside: this is a great book for kids to read. Not only is it bright and colourful, attracting their eye, but everyone loves bananas.

This would be a great gift from a father to his beloved daughter.

With heartwarming art and a story that is both funny and serious all at once.

A daughter's love for her father.

Such engaging visuals - could be made into a proper graphic novel, if needed.

This is a cute book that reminds parents to live in the moment and avoid distractions when spending time with their children but I think it could have been a bit better. Although I see the humor and power of the metaphor, I didn't really think the girl's solution to the problem fit the metaphor in a way that children could grasp. Somehow along the way, the banana humor took over. Don't get me wrong -- the banana humor was cute and quirky, but it drifted too far.

This is a short story about a little girl who loves spending time with her dad, until he gets sucked in and distracted by his banana. The little girl is sad, and then figures out how to solve the problem to regain her dad's attention.

There is a good message which could be a good discussion point for kids and their parents.

Clever!

Thank you, Penguin Random House Canada, for the advance reading copy.

This book can become a very good graphic novel! It has got lots of potential I say!

I love the art sequence and it's just a short picture book! I am asking for more!

It depicts the story of a daughter and her father who loves enjoying time together. However, the daughter becomes a bit unhappy when her father gets busy and has less time to spend time together like before. She finds a way to deal with it and I say it's thought provoking.

Like I said, clever.

Love the artstyle so much. Keep up the good work, author/artist.

What a fun book about what happens when we get too “sucked in” to things and become distracted from the people in our lives.

This works for children and parents alike-and is very relatable with the technology of today. What a gentle way to remind people that it feels good when others are present.

Banana is a funny little story about a girl and her father, and his obsession with a banana. I really like how supportive she is of her dad, and I love their relationship. The illustrations were simple, with the only item with color is the banana!

Honestly the only reason I'm not upset by this heavy-handed metaphor is because the banana store image made me laugh out loud. A sweet book about remembering to put down "your banana" and play with your kids.
