"What Does Little Crocodile Say At the Beach?" is a super fun book!! With beautiful illustrations, the story of Little Crocodile's trip to the beach is full of many different events, sounds, activities, etc. This would be a super fun book to read with a child, and I think they would enjoy saying the sounds while reading.

This book is cute and is full of fun noises or onomatopoeias (sound words like bang or pow). The story follows a little crocodile as he gets ready and visits a beach making silly noises of the sand or sunscreen. It is written and perfect for toddlers, but I also think it would be a nice mentor text for older students learning about poetic devices like onomatopoeias. The pictures are simple but colourful and have enough details, and the text is repetitive and easy to read. I would recommend this book to parents of toddlers and potentially teachers of grade 1-5 students who are wanting to demonstrate the use of this poetic device. Thanks to NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book.

While the plot was a bit lacking, the illustrations are inviting, and all the sound words will likely hit a mark with young readers. The repetition is a wonderful idea for beginning readers.

What Does Little Crocodile Say At The Beach? is a day in the life of a baby crocodile and his dad. The colored pencil illustrations are muted and calm. We go along with Little Crocodile as he has adventures at the beach and see what he does when things don't go exactly as he wanted. It's a delightful story that relies heavily on the illustrations which makes it perfect for toddlers and other young children. I look forward to having a copy of this in my classroom library for my teeny tiny students!

What Does Little Crocodile Say At the Beach?, full of subtle, colorful illustrations, is a perfect read out loud book for very young children. As little crocodile enjoys his day at the beach, the sounds of his world are showcased. “The bell goes ding, ding” The fish goes blub” “ The watch goes tick tock” all provide interactive moments for parents and small listeners. And when the “moon says goodnight”, it is bedtime! Eva Montanari skillfully blends simple drawings with dialogue in this delightful story. A definite first reading adventure! 5 stars.

Thank you to NetGalley, Penguin Random House Canada and Eva Montanari for this ARC.

I read this book with my almost 4 year old daughter. I would say that this book would suit the 9 months -2 year age range. I have an almost 5 month old daughter and I think she would really enjoy this read in a few months.

The illustrations are really cute and humorous.

Unusual look at a charming day at the seaside, with Big Crocodile and Little Crocodile. Their fun is conveyed fairly nicely visually, although I can see some people not really taking to the style and palette, and texturally through sounds, onomatopoeia and alleged messages from inanimate objects. "The sun says 'good morning'. The cracker goes crunch [this is a crocodile breakfast in this world; later Little Croc appears to be a vegetarian]. Big Crocodile says 'let's go!'. The [bicycle] bell goes dring dring" – you get the drift. Another issue is the title, which lamely asks a question whose answer can be said to be understandable, but is hardly the core of the piece (the original French had a completely different idea about naming it). All told it's alright, but I can see a much superior version in my mind, which forces me to think this a three star read at most.

My son enjoyed this book. It was nicely written and was a cute story. I would recommend this for younger kids. It’s seemed too young for my 6 year old.

There was no plot, which is not necessarily a bad thing. However, nothing really caught my attention- story or illustration-wise. I feel like it is missing something.

This was a really cute book. Perfect for summer. I loved the illustrations. The sentences all feature a sound too which my child enjoyed repeating as we read this book.

A great introduction to onomatopoeia for little ones, What Does Little Crocodile Say At The Beach is a great beginning reader for an early reader. The repetition in each sentence would be easy for a child to remember and repeat, as well as some of the sounds that the different things make in the story.

What a wonderful story for our little ones and our early readers. The repetitive phrasing lends itself to being right for our students who are still building word with sounds and looking at picture clues. This would be very fun to use during phonics instruction looking for blends and digraphs as well. I will definitely use this in my classroom and send home for children to read with their families.

Thank you to NetGalley and Penguin Random House Canada for the opportunity to read, and honestly rate and review this adorable book.

This fun children's book looks like it was sketched out on drawing paper and read to someone's grandchildren. The narrative is light and loose, great for younger children, not much plot/details to keep up with. The vibe feels familiar and safe, and the illustrations are simple and inviting. All around adorable.

What Does Little Crocodile Say At the Beach? By Eva Montanari is one of those great bedtime or lapsit books for the little ones. These are so good because after the first reading it becomes a participatory game. Mom/Dad/Grandma can read the first part of the sentence and by illustration context or by remembering the child will excitedly call out the “sound”.

There’s bells dinging, and waves crashing, and fish blubbing, and watches ticking, and, well, so much is going on in the life of the little crocodile and it seems each item has a special sound. The illustrations are simple yet there’s a lot to examine with your child. We always get a kick out of what’s happening in the background as well as in the story.

Of course, the little crocodile doesn’t want to leave the beach and says “Wwwwaah”, but this reader says “5-stars”.

Third book in the series I guess.

It's so freaking cute just like the first book. The illustration is so cute. The book describes some fun activities to do at the beach and it's all the perfect summer vibes.

Thank you, Penguin Random House Canada, for the advance reading copy.

The Little Crocodile series is a fun series of easy to read books. Kids will have fun making the sounds/phrases that go along with each new thing Little Crocodile experiences like the barbecue that goes ssssss.

Looking forward to Little Crocodile's next adventure.

Little Crocodile is a great character that I can see easily becoming beloved by kids. The books are simple but fun, and the sounds on each page are fun but also probably familiar to most households.
