This was my first Leah Konen book, and I was quite surprised.

Janine leaves her city life behind to move in with her musician boyfriend Max. They've recently had a baby girl together. Janine's mental health is quickly declining as she is struggling with being a first time mom, no sleep, missing her job and friends.

One night, Janine breaks down and blurts out her feelings. Max agrees to get up with baby Freya that night for Janine to get rest, only she wakes up to a crying baby and no Max. He is no where to be found. Janine frantically calls family and friends to figure out Max's whereabouts, but no one knows. Shortly after, police knock on her door to ask where Max is, as he was last seen at the bar where a young woman was murdered.

As Janine works to find Max, she uncovers many secrets he kept from her. Is Max really the man she knew after all?

This was a page turner for me and the plot was laid out nicely. I didn't feel like it dragged on and gave a lot of repetitive lines to fill the story. I feel like majority of the time, I have thrillers figured out before the plot twist is revealed however I did not see the plot twist coming in this book. I really thought I had it figured out.

I will definitely be reading more by this author, and this book will be recommended!

Everyone around Janie seems to have a secret (including her), and readers will enjoy piecing it together as the author keeps the surprises coming. Flew through this one, lots of fun! Janie is a new mom. She is suffering from lack of sleep, post-partum depression and she is struggling with motherhood. Janie is questioning her decisions to even have had the baby.

When husband Sam offers to take over the highly feeding one night, Janie jumps at the chance. But….Janie wakes up to Freya’s hungry screams. Sam is no where to be found. Where did he go and why?

With a twisty tale (towards the last half) we find out that secrets of the past are coming back to haunt everyone.

This was my first book by this author and although it was ok I did get a bit bored and really tired of hearing the constant details of breastfeeding. It got a little redundant. Good? Yes. Thrilling? Not so much.

Wow! This was an amazing read! This one hooked me early on and I read late into the night unable to put it down. Loved the characters. Great storyline packed with tension, twists and big reveals. Highly recommend!

I've read tons of thrillers, so when I say that this is one of the best I have ever read, you can take it to the bank. You Should Have Told Me by Leak Konen is a wild ride that you won't want to get off!

This psychological thriller follows a new mother, not adjusting well to motherhood, whose husband disappears and has possibly murdered a woman and kidnapped a child. This is her story, her desperation as a new mother, not sleeping and maybe not loving her daughter enough. And wondering if she really knows her partner at all. She follows the clues and it keeps looking bad as she struggles with how to be mothered herself throughout this crisis and with the secrets she is keeping.. Parts of the book I liked a lot. other parts seemed a little arbitrary and not sure if they needed to be included.

You think you’ve read this story before, right—a million times. And I’m pretty badass at guessing the twists. Tbh I’m usually 70% dead on. I didn’t guess this one. I wasn’t even close.
Janie is just a mess. This book is genuine and honest about what some/most mothers go through. (To those of you bothered by the breastfeeding scenes, all I can say is - you’re a douche. )#freethenip and grow the F up.

4.5 stars - but rounding down simply because everything can't be 5 stars. With a pulse pounding and adrenalin fueled storyline, I raced through this and couldn't figure out how it was going to resolve. Alas, the reveal left me a little disappointed. I wanted something more, something bigger, something more fantastical to match the build up. I'm not sure what that would have been, but I sort of had that feeling of needing to throw my hands over my eyes to keep myself safe from the big bad reveal, only to peek out from under the safety of my sheets to exclaim "oh, that's what it was!!!". Maybe I need to take a break from thrillers so they can work their magic again? Nahhhh!!!

As a mom to two young kids I could relate so much to the challenges, mixed thoughts and emotions of motherhood. I loved all the twists in this book and how it kept me guessing until the very end.

I haven’t read anything by Leah Konen before, but I’ve only heard good things, so I couldn’t wait to give this book a try. It was a bit of a miss for me, I think I was expecting a much more thrilling book than I got. I also found it too slow at times. I’ll definitely try Konen’s previous books since I’m always looking for my next favorite thriller.

I really enjoyed Leah Korean’s book The Perfect Escape. However, I though You Should Have Told me was a very so-so thriller. I found it to be a bit tedious to get through. It was not a page turner. It did not keep my attention. It was all very anti climatic. The twists seem uninspired and not really meaningful. Each one was a let down. A lot of new mothers have initial doubts about their babies so I did not find that storyline particularly riveting. The ending seem to very contrived. It was appeared that she just randomly picked someone tone the murderer. I did not really buy the murderers motivation.

This book did keep you guessing with it's ups and downs. I just didn't think it was jaw dropping. It was ok.

This one was a trip! Fast paced with lots of twists and turns. Well developed characters and very intriguing! Janine as a MC had her ups and downs but, boy were you rooting for her. You felt compelled to sit beside her on this rollercoaster!

This is the third book I’ve read by the author and I really like her brand of writing. She always seems to come up with storylines that at first glance seem like something you’ve read before, but then when you dive in you realize she puts her own unique spin on it. A partner with secrets is nothing new but there was still something fresh here. The author managed to really capture the feeling of being a new parent, especially the low moments that aren’t often discussed. This aspect alongside a plot full of tension and secrets worked pretty well for me. I did think there was a repetitive feel at times but I almost wonder if that was done intentionally as much of it revolves around Janie taking care of her newborn. Other than that it was solid, some mild surprises along the way and it was the kind of compulsive read I’ve come to expect from the author.

Janie is a new mom trying to care for Freya, yet now her partner is missing. He vanishes, which adds to her anguish, then there is a murder and more mysteries. I could not stop reading this book once I started it. Get ready for a mystery and big reveal.

Really enjoyed this one and it touched on a lot of different realistic issues as well. Well written.

Woah.... this book kept me hooked. Janie the main character was incredibly easy to love. Janie has flaws just like all the rest of us. This book truly shows the struggles to being a new mother. What seemed like the perfect family was really a big bomb waiting to explode. The unfolding of this story was amazing. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book. I will definitely reccomend and definitely be reading other books by this author. My overall rating is 4.5 ✨

I am such a fan of Leah Konen’s ability to craft a story where you are on the edge of your seat, the suspense eating away at you as you get further into the chapters. In You Should Have Told Me, new mom Janie is struggling with her infant daughter and is in awe of how easy everything comes to her partner Max. He’s just an incredible guy and Janie feels so fortunate to be with him. And then.. one night he doesn’t come home. Janie panics and runs through all the scary scenarios we think of when we are worried. What she never considered is that he is purposely staying away. But why?

Hudson Valley Hipsters, Brooklyn indiesleaze, new motherhood, paternity tests, date rape and karaoke- everything that has happened in NYC in the last decade mushed in to one domestic thriller. But Konen makes it work.

Five stars for this feat.

I received a copy of this book from NetGalley for my honest review. I feel so conflicted about this book. I was drawn in to the mystery and was completely invested in the search for Max. However, the constant negativity towards Freda, the newborn and the obsessive storyline of breastfeeding her was SO distracting and really took away from the whole experience for me. I understand postpartum is a serious condition for many women, but that, to me, wasn’t supposed to be the focus of the plot…or was it? I don’t know. Overall, I read this quickly because the “whodunit” factor kept me engaged, and the ending was really good, so I’m not sorry I read it.
