Bleeding Heart Yard is the third book featuring Detective Harbinder Kaur. If you've not read the first two, this is a great book to start with since Harbinder has just become a Detective Inspector in London and is leading a new team. Making things really interesting, Harbinder's new team includes one of the suspects in a high-profile murder case.

I really like the premise of old friends getting together for a reunion which uncovers unexpected connections between the characters and long-held secrets coming out. I like the character of Harbinder as well as DS Kim Manning who she frequently pairs up with during the investigation. They make great partners within the larger team and I enjoyed their working relationship. I like how the book ends, but the solution to the murder comes a little out of nowhere to me. Overall, I enjoyed the book and hope there is more to come in this series.

Thank you to NetGalley, Mariner Books, and Scene of the Crime Early Reads for the advance copy of this ebook. My review is voluntary and unbiased.

As a new DI, Harbinder Kaur is assigned to London's criminal investigations department. Just as she starts her new job, her team is called to the death of an MP at his 21st school reunion. As Harbinder starts to investigate, one of her team members was at the reunion and knew the deceased. As more information is added, it seems that twenty one years ago a student died and the close clique never talked about it. Did the past have something to do with the present murder?
This intriguing police procedural is told by three women, the investigator and two of the former students who have secrets that they have tried to forget.
Thank you NetGalley and Harper Collins for this e-galley of "Bleeding Hearts Yard".

This was a great book! The character development was quite good and I definitely did not figure out who the murderer was before the big reveal. I am hoping that this is the first in a series!

Elly Griffiths is a master story teller. Her mysteries are pretty slow moving and character driven - just the way I prefer them. In the third book about DI Harbinder Kaur, she is newly promoted to a station in London, therefore introducing a brand new supporting cast, and a new love interest; the Danish amazon Mette.

The scene is set for many more cases in this new setting, and I'm all in for them - as long as Elly Griffiths also continue to write her Ruth Galloway series!

Thank you NetGalley for the chance to read and review this ARC.

4 reunion stars

This is the third installment in this series with DI Harbinder Kaur. In this one, she’s made the big move to London and is finally away from her parents. I found that she really grew in this one personally, which made for good character development.

Of course, there’s a murder to investigate at a school reunion, and this time it involves one of the officers that Harbinder now supervises – Cassie. We learn early on that there was a student’s death while she was going to school, and Cassie and the Gang were responsible. Just exactly what happened is part of the mystery of the book. And does that death have something to do with the current murder?

We get Cassie’s perspective for part of the book, and I wondered if she was an unreliable narrator, or if maybe we were getting the full truth. The gang of friends is an interesting one, two of the men are politicians, one is a rock star, and one is an actress. Another is Anna, an artist, who has been living in Italy for years.

As the investigation proceeded, my wild guesses were all over the place. I never did get it quite right, but the ending did make sense.

I really like the writing style of this author and the British elements. Harbinder is definitely growing on me, and I can’t wait to read the next one in the series.

A school reunion ends with a MURDER and everyone at the party is a suspect in Elly Griffiths’ “Bleeding Heart Yard” 👀!

BOOK REVIEW: 🖤🖤🖤🖤/5

The gangs all back together again at the Manor Park reunion. Some students are thrilled to see one another, while others may have other thoughts about it. When one of the classmates is found dead in the school bathroom .. it’s not as big of a shock to the students. They have been around death before … about 30 years prior and kept it a secret blocked from their memories. Perhaps the past may be back to HAUNT them?

When a second classmate from the reunion is found in Bleeding Hearts Yard … you can’t shake the feeling that one of the students has killed AGAIN 🔪. The twists and turns in this book keep you engaged and in suspense!

I enjoyed this book and did not know before starting it that it was part of a series! I had no problem catching up with the characters and really enjoyed the author’s writing style!

Thank you kindly to @ellygriffiths17 @marinerbooks @harpercollinsca @netgalley for my advanced digital copy! This book releases November 15, 2022 🖤

A contemporary suspense novel set in London told by multiple POVs sometimes in varying chronology which seems like it might be confusing but it all intertwined perfectly. It read reminiscent like a modern clue and involved more than one murder, more than one location, and more than one time period. Take a tight knight group of friends from high school, tragedy strikes, they go their separate ways in college, and end up back together at a 21 year reunion where tragedy strikes yet again. This time making them question their memories of the past. It was a great read and had a good twist that while I suspected it early on, I was led a different direction, and ended up being pleasantly surprised. If you like a cozy mystery, this one is for you

This was the sixth book by Elly Griffiths I’ve read, and by far my favorite. While I haven’t read the Postscript murders, I did read The Stranger Diaries. I liked The Stranger Diaries, but I LOVED this one. I felt like we really get to know Harbinder in this book, and the mystery is more compelling. Harbinder’s character is so likeable and easy to root for and sleuth with.

I loved the complexity of the characters. They all seemed to be multi-dimensional and well crafted. The mystery kept me guessing until the very end. I think my favorite character was Anna Vance, but even the minor characters like Metta and Jeanne and Star added tremendously to the story.

I’ve now checked out The Postscript Murders from the library and am flying through it. The author has crafted a fresh, compelling procedural mystery series and I look forward to the next one!

Side note: I also liked how the author handled the political elements in the storyline. It was not overdone or distracting or annoying or offensive… or any of the things I usually feel when political elements are included in a mystery.

Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for my complimentary digital copy. All opinions are my own.

Harbinder Kaur is a newly minted DI and she's new to London, having at long last moved out of her parents' home. And her first case is a doozy- her DS Cassie is present at the reunion of her high school friends when one of them, Gary, an MP, is murdered. With insulin. With an insulin syringe bearing her fingerprints. This high school class was filled with high fliers in the arts and politics but it also has a big secret because one of them was murdered before they completed their A Levels. Cassie did it, she pushed David in front of a train but Gary has been calling others saying he knows the killer. Told by Cassie, Harbinger, and Anna, who moved to Italy after Uni and is back in town to care for her dying mother, it's a nicely twisty tale of secrets, lies, and it's got a surprise. Turns out Gary isn't the only one who will die. Don't worry if you missed the earlier books with Harbindur; this will be a perfect standalone. She's a terrific character, as are the others (including her flat mates). Thanks to the publisher for the ARC. No spoilers from me. It's a great read.

A posh school's final year marred by a mysterious death, and a reunion 21 years later, marked by another death, frame this story of a group of friends at the center of both. DI Harbinder Kaur has moved to London, and one of her new officers, Cassie, is part of this group of friends. The story shifts between several viewpoints, and in trademark Elly Griffiths style, the writing flows easily and the characters are fully drawn.

This was a very enjoyable read, with a surprising, yet satisfying, resolution. Many thanks to the publisher, Scene of the Crime Early Read Program, and NetGalley for an ARC!

Loved this book. I’m a huge fan of the author’s Ruth Galloway series ( have read them all) but this stand-alone effort was just as good. More please!

This is an interesting British mystery. At times it had too many details that didn't add to the plot and is dry in that typical British way. Three main characters, Cassie a police officer who thinks she murdered a classmate many years before. Harbinger, a lesbian of color, her superior officer, investigating a murder at a reunion and Anna, Cassie schoolmate who is dealing with her mother's terminal illness. Lots of stuff from the past affecting the current situations. murder, love and unresolved issues

Fans of detective fiction will love this one. It had a slower pace than I was on the mood for but I did enjoy it.

This was a DNF for me. There were too many characters and I had to keep going back to figure out who was being talked about. I know this is part of a series, so maybe if I had read the other ones I might have been able to grasp it better.

I think I like Elly Griffiths' Harbinder Kaur series even better than her Ruth Galloway series--and that's saying quite a bit. In this, her third Kaur mystery, Griffiths has moved Harbinder from her old Sussex stomping ground and sent her off to murder-rich London, a move that vastly expands the possibilities for future books.

The Group, six former students from the Manor Park School, meet again at their twenty-first reunion. The tightly-knit group are reminiscing at their old school when one of them is found dead in the school bathroom--apparently from a drug overdose. Enter DI Harbinder Kaur in her first assignment with the Metropolitan Police Homicide and Serious Crimes Unit. The case becomes a murder investigation when it is discovered the victim died from an insulin injection, and as the investigation continues, secrets are uncovered and an unexplained death from the past suddenly becomes relevant. Did the victim, a controversial MP, die at the hands of one of his old classmates or was the reunion just a convenient location for murder? It's up to Harbinder and her newly formed murder squad to quickly find answers in this high-profile case.

I understand why Griffiths moved Harbinder to London, but I miss the colorful characters she introduced in The Postscript Murders. Gone too is the humor that infused both of her previous Harbinder Kaur books--this book takes murder seriously and surrounds Harbinder with much more suitable detectives. As usual, this is an excellently written and plotted story, rich with characters and red herrings. Griffiths is a master of the police procedural and she doesn't let her faithful readers down with this latest book.

Thank you NetGalley and Mariner Books for an advance copy for review. The publication date is November 15, 2022.

My insides might have landed on my outside after concluding this book. You know, I am all about spooky season but horrified to the core?

Who am I kidding, I loved it.

Drumroll please…. Bleeding Heart Yard

Even the title is horrifying but the book will leave you complete “shook” and begging for your mama . If I wasn’t checking under my bed before, I sure am now …

Teaser:

Is it possible to forget that you’ve committed a murder?

When Cassie Fitzgerald was at school in the late 90s, she and her friends killed a fellow student. Almost twenty years later, Cassie is a happily married mother who loves her job—as a police officer. She closely guards the secret she has all but erased from her memory.

One day her husband finally persuades her to go to a school reunion. Cassie catches up with her high-achieving old friends from the Manor Park School—among them two politicians, a rock star, and a famous actress. But then, shockingly, one of them, Garfield Rice, is found dead in the school bathroom, supposedly from a drug overdose. As Garfield was an eminent—and controversial—MP and the investigation is high profile, it’s headed by Cassie’s new boss, DI Harbinder Kaur, freshly promoted and newly arrived in London. The trouble is, Cassie can’t shake the feeling that one of them has killed again.

Is Cassie right, or was Garfield murdered by one of his political cronies? It’s in Cassie’s interest to skew the investigation so that it looks like it has nothing to do with Manor Park and she seems to be succeeding.

Until someone else from the reunion is found dead in Bleeding Heart Yard…

Thanks to NetGalley and Elly Griffiths for this digital ARC.

So glad Harbinder is back - and living in London! When an MP dies at a class reunion... Harbinder is brought in to solve the case. One of the MP's old school friends Cassie also happens to work for Harbinder... making for an interesting perspective and dynamic. Another murder occurs and the investigation ramps up quickly. Flashes of the past with Cassie and her friends from school add layers to the mystery as it unravels.

Another solid book from Elly Griffiths!

A fun, fast-paced mystery-a little levity, an intriguing puzzle, good dialogue. While I admit I identified the killer before the ending, it did take a while. There were enough red herrings to keep you sifting through the possible killers. A high recommend for a not very serious-but enjoyable murder mystery.

Another great read in the Kaur series of books. The multiple perspectives told in various tenses in only semi-chronological order, including flashbacks, all combined to create a compelling and addictive read. This one was only the first in this series where I was able to figure out who the villain was before Griffiths told me. Really fun.

I was hoping this wouldn't be so police procedural heavy, but it was and I couldn't enjoy it as much as I wanted to. Unfortunately, this was more of a flop.
