Detective Ellie Reeves is back with another case!

A teenage girl Mandy falls into a pit...only to find the pit contained human bones dated thirty years near a now abandoned children's home. Meanwhile, a series of brutal slaying of women is taking place in the town. Ellie along with FBI agent Derrick wondered if there is any similarities between the two and Ellie finds many dark disturbing things about the former child house...

As usual, the author has done a good job of drawing the reader into the story. The chapters were short, which made it easy and faster for the reader to read, and there were some twists and turns that you wouldn't expect. The whole book feels like a roller coaster ride and I was kept at the edge of the seat, wondering what is going to happen next. The ending was unexpected but nonetheless, I enjoyed reading this book and cannot wait for Detective Ellie's cases again! Worth five stars!

Many thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for the ARC. The review is based on my honest opinion only.

A group of teenagers are planning to spend the night outside of an abandoned orphanage as part of a Tic Tok challenge, something spooks them and they take off running and one of the girls falls into a pit which is filled with human bones. Hidden Bones is the 6th book in the Ellie Reeves series by Rita Herron. This book had lots of twists which I love and I think is the best book yet in this series. Thank you Netgalley and Bookouture for this Arc.

This is my first book by Rita Herron though this is the 6th book in this particular series. While I was missing much of Ellie’s backstory, I found the book to feel fairly complete even without it. I appreciate this in a “detective” series because occasionally I will pick them up out of order. I like that the author writes Ellie as smart and determined but also vulnerable. It gave her a depth of character that was really great. I liked that the romantic tension wasn’t over the top. There is quite a bit of violence in the book, particularly depictions of child abuse, sexual violence, torture. Thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.

I am doing the happy dance!!!
Book six in the series to feature Detective Ellie Reeves has landed in my inbox. It goes straight to the top of my reading pile. I thought I knew what to expect from this author but her latest Hidden Bones is so much more. A group of teenagers are doing a Tick Tock challenge by visiting a delapitated orphanage presumed to be haunted. Something spooks one of the girls in the group and she is off running away from the house and into the woods surrounding the house when she stumbles into a barely covered pit. At the bottom of the pit is a layer of bones and this is only the beginning. A dark history of the orphanage called Hawk House is uncovered and so much more. Fast Paced, heartbraking, gripping and so intense. A prolific serial killer who loves his work and likes to inflict indescribable pain on his victims. Hooked from the first to the last page, full of misdirection and a storyline that blew me away. In my opinion this is the best in the series so far and a definite MUST READ. Loved, loved it!!!!
Many thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC in return for giving an honest review.

Ellie knows in her bones something isn’t right. Literally, since bones upon bones keep piling up around. Rooked Creek. A creepy abandoned orphanage where unspeakable things occurred. People connected to Hawk House keep turning up dead. Ellie races to connect all the dots, helped by Derrick and Cord.
But as the case winds down, both men’s pasts are bubbling over and they each look to Ellie for comfort and solace.
The author left me hanging about Ellie and her men!!! My heart ached for the one I like and want to see her with and also what dark secrets he still holds.
I’m left waiting, very impatiently I might add, for the next book because not only am I hungry for the good mystery that a,ways unfolds, but I want to see if Ellie’s love life pans out the way I hope.

I love Ellie Reeves! Thank you for this advanced copy. It does take me a min to catch up and remember the characters from this series since I read so much, but then I feel like I'm right back there living life with them. While the topic was a little disturbing to me, the suspense was great! The writing was great? Great thriller and I can't get enough of this series.

“Pay attention to the whispers, so we won’t have to listen to the screams.”

Detective Ellie Reeves has been called to a scene where teenagers on a ghost hunting trip find something horrible.

HAWK HOUSE was a orphanage that closed down years ago. They say it’s haunted now they know why. While investigating what happened people are being murdered. Someone doesn’t want the truth to come out.

The wind gives life, her grandmother said. When it ceases to blow, we die. But do not fear death. It is part of the circle of life.

This is a fast paced page turning suspenseful read. Secrets are revealed and the evil that stared in that house is still out there.Anything that this author writes is good and this series get better every new story.

Detective Ellie Reeves is back in this, the sixth book in the series set in the small town of Crooked Creek, in the Appalachian mountains. This time she is trying to find out what happened at an orphanage where numerous bones were found. She is partnered up with FBI agent Derrick but also with Cord, a ranger. both have interesting back stories, but for now she’s dedicated to getting justice for the victims of what looks like being a serial killer.

This is a very tense murder mystery, setting off at a cracking pace and not faltering all the way to the unexpected ending. There is a lot to get your head round but it dovetails really well into the very exciting last few chapters. A definite must read, stand-alone but helps to have read at least a few of the previous books.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review this book.

The second book I have read from Rita Herron. After a scene setting start, the book starts to gather pace. Once it gets up to full speed it is both thrilling and chilling, I really couldn’t put it down. Loads of characters, red herrings, side crime and all neatly tied together. Excellent thriller.
Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for providing me with an Advance Reader's Copy in exchange for an honest, unbiased review.

Dang! Just when you think Rita Herron can't push Ellie Reeves any further... she does! Warning to mystery/thriller lovers, this book will keep you up well past your bed time. An old orphanage, run by a terrible person, is the holder of many secrets. Ellie's niece (who also happens to be Bryce's - the sheriff's - daughter) falls down into a pit when checking out the area with her friends. A pile of old bones opens up a case that many people would like to keep buried. As with past books, Ellie's relationships are forefront... strained with her parents... and sorting out with Derrick and Cord. Ms. Herron balances the relationships as well as mystery solidly. This book is part of a series that a reader can start here - and then you'll be pushed to read all the previous novels. Thank you to Bookouture for an advanced reader copy of this fantastic book - the opinions here are my own.

One creepy old abandoned orphanage closed over 30yrs ago, the discovery of bones near the house in a pit & suddenly a number of players will do anything to keep the horrors of the past & their sins hidden.

A great suspense mystery that will have you scrambling to put all the puzzle pieces together with a number of twists and turns.

For those reading the series and know there are 2 potential love interests for Ellie, you may be team Derrick the Fed or team Cord, the Ranger. At the end, i won’t give anything away, but had a thought of the movie sliding doors, wondering what would have happened based on who turns up on her doorstep first…

I love the characters & as always Rita gave me a mystery to sink my teeth into, I didn’t want to put it down, left in anticipation of the next book & what is next for each character.

Children's bones are found in an abandoned orphanage outside the town. The place has always had a bad reputation and there were suspicions that the headmaster was abusing his young pupils. Detective Ellie Reeves is tasked with solving this mystery from the past. However, Ellie may have trouble solving this case when people associated with the orphanage begin to disappear and a murderer begins to prowl the town.

The case that Ellie is working on together with the other characters we met in previous books is interesting. As always, there is no shortage of twists, and the stakes are high. Ellie has less and less time to stop the murderer, even when it comes to bones that have been buried by the orphanage for years.

I was hoping for some sort of breakthrough in Ellie's love life. However, that did not happen, and I am a bit disappointed. To some degree the situation seems to get even more complicated, but it is hard to say that it is making any significant progress. And Ellie's relationship with her parents is just as complicated as ever.

You can easily read this book even if you haven't read any of the previous ones, although you will find some threads more understandable if you know what happened. Well, at this stage in this series, there are a lot of characters with a lot of complicated connections between them, so it's probably easier when you already know something about them. But still, it's a complete story, and you don't need to know the earlier ones.

Even though the victims are young children, there are not many drastic descriptions of violence against them. But as with previous books in this series, this one also features scenes of violence against women, including sexual violence and torture.

This is book 6 with Detective Ellie Reeves and her team. This one revolves around bones found at an old Childrens home.
Before they can start the invest Files are stolen and a body turns up. Ellie is joined in the investigation by Special agent fox and mountain expert Cord who both interested in feeling their relationship with Ellie whilst also dealing with their own ghosts.
The story is told in two timelines of the present and 30 years ago. The author of thirty years ago is slowly revealed as the story unfolds.
This was great read and can be read on its own or as part of the series. Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Just like always I want to say thank you to the publisher Bookouture , the author Rita Herron , for the invite to join in on this blog tour but also to Netgalley for letting me continue on with this series . This series just keeps getting better and better as well as more twisted then the last one. I loved how I kept telling myself just a few pages but then before I knew it I was past where I wanted to stop at. As for the suspense it was all the way though the book from the very start to the very end, it had me setting on the edge of my set , turning page after page which is another reason I couldn't stop reading.

I simply love Rita Herron and her stories.
Her mysteries are always full of action, with a strong heroine protagonist and an intriguing mystery.
Ellie Reeves ticks all these boxes with a continuing character development which is pleasurable to follow. I personally always enjoy a touch of romance in my crime/mystery books to even out the gruesome aspects of crime and Rita Herron delivers really well.
Would recommend this book with no hesitation!

The girl trips over branches, losing her footing. The darkness swallows her and she grabs thin air as she falls, her scream piercing the night. When she slams into the bottom of the pit, her heart hammers. She can’t believe what she’s seeing—a pile of perfect white bones…
Another great addition to the Ellie Reeves series. The mystery was well paced and the flow was maintained well throughout. The characters were a little more fleshed out and the romance finally seems to be moving after treading water in the last few books.
I look forward to reading future books I’m the series. A solid 4.5/5. While it can be read as a standalone, readers would benefit from reading the series in order.
Thanks to Ms Herron, the publisher and NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review
