Great read! Plot was consistently in motion, and the characters felt real. The dialogue in the beginning seemed a little stiff.

3.5 rounded up to 4 stars!

A great debut thriller!!

This book started out intense right off the bat and so I was instantly interested in the story. I enjoyed the back and forth between Molly and Rita and following both sides of the police investigation.

It got a little confusing because there are soo many characters and it was difficult to keep them all straight. I did feel like the pacing or maybe the energy/excitement in the book felt a little flat but I was still really interested in what was happening!

The ending was kind of crazy but also seemed drawn out?

Still a great book for a debit! I could definitely see this becoming a movie or a show!

This is a case of when the blurb is better then the book. I couldn't wait to read this book, it sounded so good. However, the pace was to slow for me and it lacked tension and suspense. I listened to the audiobook and the narration was great.

Molly and her husband are in love and they are celebrating his 40th birthday. The next day, Molly finds him dead on the floor of his office. Molly is heartbroken and the secrets she has been hiding are at risk of coming out with the investigation, helmed by a determined veteran Boston detective, Rita Myers.

I enjoyed this book a lot, the slow unfolding of secrets in the present and the past to end in a startling conclusion.

On the night of Molly’s husband's 40th birthday, they gather with 6 of their closest friends to celebrate. The next morning her life is shattered when she finds her husband's murdered body.

Why? He was loved by everyone. But did he have secrets like she had?

Detective Rita Myers is bought in to investigate. She doesn’t believe it was a random attack. She believes it was someone close to him.

Told from Molly and Rita’s perspective All The Dark Places is a book I couldn’t put down. I just wanted to read one more chapter. I can highly recommend the audiobook with 2 narrators it really took the book to the next level.

Happy to see that there is going to be another book featuring Detective Rita Myers. She is someone I would love to know more about.

Thank you to @netgalley @kensingtonbooks and @terriparlatoauthor for the eARC

In Terri Parlato’s All the Dark Places, this domestic thriller is twisted and full of suspense to keep you on the edge of the seat, guessing and gasping, straight to the end. It all started for Molly Bradley when they celebrated her husband’s Jay’s 40th birthday, which later came to a tragic end as she discovered his dead body in the garage. Fresh on the scene, Detective Rita Myers from the Boston PD were on the case, and headed to the suburb of Graybridge. But that wasn’t the worst of it, when they discover a necklace that belonged to a missing person, and the connection to their family home. Then someone knew her dark deep secrets from her former life and name by calling her and writing letters, having her tinkering on the edge. For Rita Myers, she’s on the hunt to find out the truth and learn hidden secrets of Molly’s closest circle of friends. As Molly faces her demons dead-on, Rita gets closer to the truth before it would be too late for her to encounter the darkness.

This bone-numbing domestic thriller will leave you hooked on every turned page. I cared for Molly, when we’ve gotten to know about her past, and how she would face the future alone. She had been through quite enough and deserved a break. I also liked Rita, who was tough-as-nails attitude, and harbored old feelings for her old flame, FBI Joe Thorne. The dual locations of Mountclair and Graybridge Massachusettts were cryptic and deeply enchanted for the scenic settings. The dual themes of the story are to face the fears and keep deep rooted secrets buried to the ground.

This compelling domestic suspense is full of surprises and red herrings, straight to the end. I rated this book, four out of five stars for no reason. If you love a domestic thriller that makes you second-guess your spouse or friends with non-stop dramatic suspense, goose-bumping action, and lots of gasping twists, All the Dark Places deserve a place on your TBR read. This book is recommended for domestic suspense thrillers from Cara Reinard, Shari LaPena, and thrillers like One of Us is Lying.

Thank you so much @netgalley and @kensingtonbooks for the eARC of this in exchange for my review!

Ok, so the first 25% of this book had me tricked into thinking it was going to be a domestic thriller and I am so glad that it went in a different direction. It ended up getting darker and grittier which is always a plus for me. Multiple murders to solve, a traumatic history, and some good police procedural and we get a pretty entertaining thriller.

I definitely enjoyed the main detective character Rita. I've heard the author's upcoming novel has the same character so I'm definitely looking forward to reading more about her!

I felt like I was reading a completely different book than everyone else. I didn’t really enjoy this as much as I had hoped. I had a hard time connecting with it keeping up with the different characters because they weren’t memorable, which made the ending lack luster. I wish that I had loved it more, and I suggest everyone make their own opinions about it, because others have enjoyed it.

4.25 stars

I loved Rita in this book and I thought that this was such a fun debut. I thought the writing was really good and at every point I was trying to guess who was the murderer. I think this will appeal to both new and seasoned thriller readers and I'm excited to see what Terri Parlato writes next.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC in exchange for an honest review!

Terri Parlato, has entered the room and she sure did make her presence known with this stunning debut.

This book packs a punch you’ll have a hard time getting over .

Filled to the tip with twists, you’ll never say you’re bored while reading. The characters were multi dimensional and realistic.

The murder mystery was executed with precision and I love how clues were dropped throughout the book to keep us engaged and excited about what would happen next.

I loved everything about this book and I can not wait to see what Parlato will publish next .

Teaser :

A dark new thriller perfect for fans of Megan Miranda and Shari Lapena where murder exposes the dark secrets at the center of a group of friends and sets two women – one with a traumatic past, the other a Boston police detective – on a hunt for truth.

Snow falls softly outside Molly Bradley’s home on a frigid January night. Inside, half a dozen close friends are gathered to celebrate the fortieth birthday of Molly’s psychologist husband, Jay. Candlelight gleams against dark wood, wine flows, and the house rings with laughter. Everybody loves Jay, Molly most of all. Yet next morning, Molly discovers Jay dead on the floor of his office, his throat brutally slashed.

After decades working with the Boston PD, Detective Rita Myers has grown accustomed to the banality of evil—the murders that make no sense beyond bad luck or a tragic brush with the worst of humanity. But Jay Bradley’s murder isn’t random, or a mere crime of opportunity. Rita is convinced that someone in the couple’s small circle killed him. Someone who was celebrating with them that night.

Devastated, Molly tries to make sense of her husband’s death. Jay was her rock, the only person who really understood the nightmare she lived through long ago. He knew the horrors she’s kept hidden even from her friends. But shocking revelations are making her question if Jay was all he seemed to be—and whether someone else knows her past too. And until Molly figures out who she can really trust, she won’t be able to stop herself becoming the next target . . .

This book kept me reading and guessing (incorrectly) throughout. I was completely surprised by how the story ended and who the killer was. The brief flashbacks and looks into Molly’s past were just enough to make me wonder what her secrets and motivations were, and I kept reading because I wanted to find out more about her. Overall great read!

Molly has put together a special 40th birthday party for her husband, Jay. They have all of their best friends there, they eat and drink and have a great time. Sometime later, after everyone has gone and Molly has gone to bed, Jay heads to his office in the backyard to work a little. The next morning Molly wakes with a sense of unease, Jay is not in bed and there’s no smell of coffee. Molly finds Jay in his office, murdered. This was a really good mystery, told by Molly and Rita, the detective on the case. Everyone becomes a suspect and secrets are brought out into the open. Definitely worth the read.

The day after they celebrate her husband’s 40th birthday with close friends, Molly finds the love of her life murdered in his office. Jay didn’t have any enemies, so Molly is at a loss as to why someone wanted him dead. As the investigation develops, it becomes more baffling to not only her but the detectives in charge of the case as well.

All the Dark Places is a suspenseful story that is told from two points of view – Molly, the victim’s wife and Rita, the lead detective on the case. Both women are determined to find the killer and bring him to justice. The author does an excellent job moving between the two narratives and the story is absorbing and well-written, and the backstories add depth and character development.

All the Dark Places was even better than I had anticipated and I found it difficult to put down.

Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for providing a copy of this book for review.
