This book was sent to me by Netgalley for review. This is an unusual story…quite confusing at times…even bizarre…I kept reading trying to get into this book. I couldn’t. Perhaps others will like it, but it is not my favorite.

I've enjoyed books in this series but this one - concerning a visit by Thomas Merton to Cold Storage, where he and the residents deal with a faux FBI agent and some white supremacists who think they've found the mummified body of Abraham Lincoln's assassin - was a struggle for me. He has a way with language usually, but I didn't get swept up this time, and so the suspension-of-disbelief bridge fell into a chasm. Maybe it was inviting outsiders to town and letting them take over the narrative that kept the usual magic from happening for me. Hard to say, but I'll chalk it up to a rare mistake for an author who usually transports me. (Or chalk it up to reader error - sometimes a book just doesn't work for whatever reason.)
