From the first page, Road of the Lost grabbed me by the collar, and dragged me into a world of Fae, Pixies and Brownies, with magic flowing all over, and under and around.
Every description served a purpose, every conversation, every allusion to anything. We think it is odd that Croi, the Brownie girl, likes a statue that is in an abandoned garden, in the royal garden. We think that is just something passing. It is not.
There is something fantastic about reading a book where you can tell that everything from the characters to the setting, to the plot, to the world building have been so thought out, so thoroughly, so meticulously that there are no gaping plot holes, or anything questionable; just sweet, deep, dark story.
This was the sort of novel I both wanted desperately to finish, and also wanted to stay and relish. And the language kept making me stop and highlight bits that I loved:
“The pockets of darkness that still cling to the noods and hollows like cobwebs.”
“The only conversations that can be heard around the clearing are those of crickets riding the moon to midnight”
“Someone who smells like the sun on golden summer days when the grass is green and life is full of honey.”

This will become your new favorite book, your new favorite adventure, your new favorite journey. I have loved every book Nafiza has written thus far, and this even more so.
Definitely a five star read.
Put it on your to-be-read list. Make sure you order it. Place it on hold at your local library. It is really that good. And the cover, as with all her books, is gorgeous.
