I really liked this book. It is a story of grief, mystery, discovery, and espionage. The story gripped me and didn’t let go.
Many thanks to Endicott Street Press and to NetGalley for providing me with a galley in exchange for my honest opinion.

I’ve managed to read two thrillers back-to-back where the location outperformed the plot. This one, the superior of the two, also had time on its side, which is to say it was set during an interesting time, specifically post WWII Paris, about a decade after a great devastation and the city is a still a shadow of itself, torn by various political parties and echoes of the war.
An American widower named Eli who beloved Parisian wife had been killed a couple of years ago, is but a shadow of himself too. But when his former father-in-law contacts him to let him know he might have a clue as to who killed his wife, the man sets off to investigate.
It begins with his wife’s infidelity, and from there on, Eli gutted but determined, proceeds to unravel an ugly conspiracy that reaches into various upper echelons of the powers that be.
A decent and decently written story, it’s pretty good for a debut. Too spy fiction-y for me, perhaps, but diverting enough and short enough to not overstay its welcome. So I’ll uprate it. Why not. The historical fiction aspect of it worked nicely. Thanks Netgalley.

Eli was happily living in Paris in the 1940s and when he lost his wife he thought he lost everything, but when he started uncovering her secrets he would lose the most precious thing and that was the woman he thought he knew. This book was so good one secret leads to another between him drinking and uncovering secrets it becomes a vicious cycle they really have too much in this book to give it adjust summary just know if you love World War II stories this is one of the better ones. I loved Eli, JP and especially Alex Lee and sister love her. The biggest thing to keep in mind is not everyone is how they appear. I highly recommend this book I was given this book by net galley and I am leaving this review voluntarily please forgive any mistakes as I am blind and dictate my review.

Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for allowing me to read this book. The Glass Tree was a fast paced story of love and revenge set in post was Paris. The characters are deliciously flawed and so very relatable. The story was good and flowed well. This was a fun read!

Reading The Glass Tree by Michael J. Manz was like watching a noir film from the sixties. The characters were great, the atmosphere was good and the overall mystery was lacking.

Manz’s story of a man hunting for the killers of his wife in a post WWII France crafts a fantastic world but never seems to build upon a post war era and just mentions the war to connect with the mystery surrounding Liana’s past and Eli’s search.

The biggest strength of the book is the characters with Eli filling the role of the leading hero but building a supporting cast that shines and brings out the emotion of both the story and Eli himself.

Overall The Glass Tree is perfect for fans of spy stories and historical fiction!
