This was another great read in the Systema Paradoxa tales. Kind of hit close to home, since I live in Maryland. Even had the Snallygasters and Dewayos in it, which are Frederick County cryptids. Will need to read more in this series. #ChessieAtBay #NetGalley

I felt like it was my duty as a native Marylander to read & review this book about our culture (Chessie the Sea Monster)

Quote that about sums up the book “Captain Adams would have preferred to speed up and fire a torpedo or two up the creature’s butthole…”

Chessie is a cryptid, a prehistoric creature that has survived undetected until today. She is a Loch Ness type of creature able to telepathically communicate with specific people. As World War Two starts, the military needs all the help it can get. I enjoyed the book, it was a fun quick read.

I’ve read Systema Paradoxa before. It was fun. And this one was fun too. Sure, my fascination with cryptozoology helps, but it’s a sort of cheesy light and breezy creature feature most can enjoy.
Scotland has Loch Ness and Chesapeake Bay has Chessie. Although that isn’t her name. Because yes, she has a name, personality, family, all that. This is her story.
You’ll likely to be entertained by it.
Definitely going to read more from this series. A pleasant quick diversion you can easily get through in one sitting. Thanks Netgalley.
