Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for sending me a digital Arc in exchange for my honest review.

Loved the setting, the plot fell short but had a lot of potential.

This one had a lot of potential but imo did not delivered. I think the only thing I really liked about it was the world is set in, but the story shows no deep mess and it was hard to focus on the events because it feels like the author wanted to write about many things at the same time.

I wish I could give this book a better rating, I truly do, but to be honest: 3 stars is already considering the huge potential this series has despite its flaws.

There's a God of Death, a rebellion, a tribe of Woodwomen (who might be from another world), a childish Prince not fit for his duties, an overachieving Princess fighting against her feelings, a King with a dark secret, a Queen who lost her place and that is by far not it.

The many POVs together with the sheer amount of plot strings made me lose the grand picture. Don't get me wrong: all the elements themselves are perfect for forming a great story but they feel rushed and not using their whole potential which makes me wish this book would have focused on a few of them and worked them out properly.

Still, this is not a bad book and I am really hoping for the sequel to take its time while telling the many stories.

This was such a great start to the Celestial Kings series, I really enjoyed how well this worked in the scifi genre. Vivek Choudry has a great writing style and it really works well in the scifi genre. I enjoyed how well everything worked together and enjoyed the characters themselves. It was what I was hoping for and look forward to reading more in this series and from the author.

"Jaris makes his way around the council table toward Rahal. “Men wielding great clubs riding on bulls twice the size of any other mount. Horns so lethal, they could split you with one gore. Thick hides layered with sheets of green moss. A beautiful creature, but Veridia’s most fearsome.”

Thank you NetGalley for a chance to read Seeds of Sacrifice.

I thought the beginning of this book was a little confusing but I ended up enjoying this book overall. This was a fast paced read with a unique concept but I didn’t love the writing style.

Seeds of Sacrifice is the first book in an Indian inspired fantasy series with royals, court politics, gods, and monsters.

This book had some great things about it! It was pretty fast paced with engaging action scenes and a good amount of twists and turns. I always enjoy grimdark fantasy novels with plenty of war scenes and this had that. There was also a good amount of intensity and urgency in the story. I never got bored. The book had a great atmosphere, and I also loved that there was sapphic representation!

Though this book had some great elements, it also had some things that could use improvement. Mainly, I found the story to be confusing. It skipped around a lot and I sometimes found myself asking “how did we get here?”. Secondly, I wish that the characters had been more likable. I just felt indifferent to almost everyone. Also, there was a lot of fatphobia in this novel. And though I do understand why it was necessary for a certain character’s development, I still found it uncomfortable.

Overall, even though this book was confusing, I still found it enjoyable due to the fast paced grimdark atmosphere. I may read the sequel because I feel like since this is the author’s debut, it can only get better from here! Definitely give this book a try if you’re looking for a quick fantasy read!

Thank you to the author and NetGalley for this arc. All opinions are my own.

TW: fatphobia, graphic death, animal death, spiders, and snakes

*2.5* stars
This book has definitely been an interesting piece. It had so much potential with fabulous fantasy bits embedded in the plot, but the storyline did not deliver such an experience. The start of the book was very difficult as you are thrown into the story featuring many characters that are switching the narrative. It was very confusing. In the second half of the book, you kind of get the hang of what is happening with different characters, and suddenly boom, it ends. By the end of the book, the action has only started and nothing has been resolved. The magic and fantasy are there but it feels largely superficial which bugs me, as I would like to dive deeper into that element. With the book finished I still don't feel satiated with how the story ends in the first book. A beautiful concept that can be perfected in the second book. Well, good story, but I wasn't amazed.

This book had potencial. The keyword is had.

The world is interesting and it's a fast read, but that's it.

Even though the world is interesting the story isn't, it could have been but everything feels rushed, too many things happening at once that makes impossible to care about what is happening to any of the character.

There are also way too many characters and storylines to keep up with, we spent little time with every character so I can't start caring for any of them, I just didn't care at all about what was happening to the characters, it feelt boring because I couldn't care less about any of it.

It's a shame because if everything would have been built in a slower way and if we didn't have so many point of view I think it would have been a greater book than it was. Like I said everything happened way to fast and sometimes I was lost about what was happening in the plot, but since I didn't care about the plot I couldn't care about being lost, it just make me more disconnected from the story.

I didn't feel attached neither to the story neither to the characters, their problems seemed way too far away for me to care about them, there was no way I could connect with any of them because, like I said there was way too many point of views.

I feel like it's a wasted since it seemed very interesting but it was just a dissapointment reading it. Also is very forgettable, this may be related to the fact I didn't get attached to the story or the characters so once I stepped out of the book I just forgot 95% of the stuff I just read,

Interesting and unique world building but there's not nearly enough of it. I really like the Wildwood women's language being so entwined with their tree focus. The atmosphere of the story is also very creepy which I'm sure is intended. I read fantasy to learn about fantastical lands and this is clearly one of the authors strong points.
Things move way too fast, I have no idea why anyone is doing anything and while its nice to have short chapters its a problem when you have this many POV's because you can't get to know a character, distinguish between them or feel settled in the world.
It's also extremely unsubtle (names, intentions, future plot points) and my only liked character (Jaris) who also seems to be the only decent one, is relegated and for what? I don't know but he's the one I really want to read about. He also seems to have a bad ending whereas his rubbish son gets the opposite and that disturbs me greatly. Everyone else seems like a weak, whiny brat while Jaris is clearly the man in the situation. I can't care about things when there aren't any good guy's.
