This book was so much fun. The pirate Grislygrim is mean and nasty. He is a peg leg pirate. One night a cabin kid sneaks in and replaces the peg leg with something else. This happens a few times until the kids on the ship find just the “write” leg for this story. This could be done for story time, as a puppet show, or even as a vocal story. It works and the illustrations are a perfect match.

Oh my, kids are going to LOVE this hilarious and creative picture book... guaranteed!

The crew of Captain Grislygrin's pirate ship are terrified of him. He is the scariest pirate of the Seven Seas of all time. When he emerges from his cabin and they hear the clonk, clonk, clonk of his wooden pegleg on deck they all scream in fear.

One night a little cabin girl quietly breaks into Grislygrin's cabin while he is snoring away and steals his wooden pigleg. She swaps it for .... wait for it... a squeaky rubber duck! When the mangey old pirate discovers the switch and that his trusty wooden leg is missing he gets mad... very, very mad... and his whole crew in turn gets very, very afraid of what he might do.

The next night, while the old geezer is sound asleep, a brave little cabin boy sneaks into his cabin and swaps the captain's squeaky rubber leg with a spring! Boing! Boing! Boing! Oh no! The exchanges continue night after night making the captain angrier and angrier and his crew petrified of what the consequences may be if he finds the tricksters.

Tired of being perpetually scared the smallest brave cabin girl finds a perfect solution for both the mean old captain and her beloved crew. Whatever could she have done to bring unity and happiness to all involved?

The vibrant artwork is amazing. It is expressive, detailed, humorous, and full of activity. The story addresses themes of fear, laughter, overcoming a fear of pirates, fun and adventures. The fonts used also add to the frivolity of the text. I love the book and believe that kids in the age range of 4-8 will love the book too. I highly recommend it.

I was given this book as an eARC from the publisher for an honest review.

I’m not sure I get the plot of the story. It seems like the crew of children kept playing pranks on the captain until he was nice. There’s moral to the story. Since there was little plot and no moral, it fell flat for me.

I liked the bright colors of the pages. The art style was new and innovative. It made it interesting to look at. I wanted to linger after reading to take it in.

We love stories of pirates in our household, we have a lot of books about them and this is definitely going to join our collection.

The art was so original and the story was a lot of fun! The ending was probably the cutest thing.

This hilarious picture book tells the story of child-like pirates and the silly antics they get up to on the seven seas. The font includes fun expressive text, with minimal words per page. The illustrations are fun and interesting. I think that kids in the age 4-8 range will love this book! Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book!

I wasn't sure what to expect - is it a book about disability? - since the captain only has one leg? But it's not - he's just all around a fearsome man who happens to be missing a leg. The authors could have addressed that facet, but I think it's okay to have a book that's just funny, without a big message to share.

I especially love the artwork, which made me grin when I first glanced at it. It's so cute! and also very vibrant. I could practically feel the waves and movement of the ship. Parents and kids will have a good time finding little details in the art - like the multi-colored hair, the amusing fish in the water, and the pelican who shows up a couple times! Plus, the expressions on the crew's faces are hilarious.

The story is cute as well, and unexpected. Young kids will love the repetition, and I think parents will like doing different voices. And I really like the "happy ending".

I am glad the publisher chose to only create a print edition - it just does NOT work on kindle.

Cute story! It made me laugh and I enjoyed the funny illustrations and bolded vocabulary. As an educator to young readers, this story would make an excellent resource. Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC!
