Bea has won her dream wedding, there’s just one problem…there’s no groom for the big day. As this book had a great cover and incredibly strong concept, I had high hopes for this novel to be a hilarious, romantic read with quirky lovable characters - similar to Emily Henry and Beth O’Leary - so that may have contributed to my feelings that the story didn’t quite deliver what I’d hoped. The characters felt rather hard to root for, especially the protagonist, Beatrice. I just struggled to warm to a character who demanded support from her friends and family for her (quite poor) choices, whilst knowing what she’s doing is a bad idea and hurting many people (including herself) in the process. Though some of the writing is good, the ending felt fairly predictable as well. I hope this author, who clearly has such strong, original ideas, has another go - and that her next book is a hit. Huge thanks to the author, Jessica Hatch, and publisher, Bookouture, for this advance review copy. Views my own. 3*

Jessica Hatch is a new-to-me author - I don’t see other titles listed for her so I do think this is her debut? I’m going to have to try another release in future for a better idea of her writing.

This is a closed door, workplace story (more leaning to womens fic than romance), where there is a lot of drama and struggle in the main character Bea’s very existence (her every day life) - it seems to be the way she needs to be in order to survive in her self-centered world… She doesn’t pay much attention to anyone around her, including best friend Lucy to notice when she is down about her relationship with long-term girlfriend Charlotte, or when other best friend Oliver is having work issues and is let go, or when she wins a contest for a deeply discounted wedding package and reaches out to the ex, Ray (of 7 years) who cheated on her just to escape their hun-drum relationship.

Bea is very self-absorbed and asks her friend to pose as her fake fiancé to let her parents know about the upcoming wedding and is hurt when they don’t believe it - so much so that she hurts their friendship in pursuit of a real fake fiancé for the wedding farce and seriously goes for that guy at work that she never really got on with - to the detriment of everyone and everything else. But what else is new!

There are a lot of times you want to shout at Bea to stop being immature and self-centered and look around because the rest of the world can see exactly what is going on around her. This story needed a bit of shortening and speeding up of the storyline and some tightening up of the plot. I definitely found my attention wandering and it took me longer to read than it should have for the length.

I would recommend this book to an audience that is looking for a closed door, workplace story and are ok with a lot of drama and struggle in the main character’s very existence, a fairly slow story to get where we need to go, and don’t mind taking their time and quite a path to get there.

I received an advance review and advance listen copy from NetGalley, Bookouture, and Bookouture Audio, and this is my honest feedback.

Happy Pub Day @jessicanhatch !

Thank you to @NetGalley and @bookouture for an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.

This book covered off the fake dating troupe briefly along with my favourite time of wedding planning!

Bea has just come out of a long term relationship when the opportunity for dream wedding falls in her lap.

Not wanting to give up on dream wedding Bea is convinced she is going to find a spouse in time for her big day. Do you think Bea will find a man before the big day? I guess you will have to read and find out.

The book covered friendships and the issues that can arise, office drama and the pressures of work, family and how they are not always supportive and how sometimes when you are so focused on one thing you lose yourself and don’t see the thing right in front of you.

What is your favourite troupe? I can’t just pick one: enemies to lovers, friends to lovers and fake dating!!

Bea wins a lottery for a free wedding the only catch is she's single...

The opening sequence had me feeling like I was watching a romcom like the main character refers to.
Beatrice Corbin doesn't do things in half measure and goes full force into everything she does, often coming across as self absorbed, but I think she shows signs of being mildly neurodivergent, she grows as a character and shows her friends she cares by giving when she herself has very little and by doing acts of service ( so maybe her love languages are those two)
Bea's first date anxiety had me having flash backs of some of my first dates *cringe* .
All in all I liked this book a lot, it felt familiar like a RomCom movie, sweet and funny with some cringe worthy moments and a very sweet ending. I look forward to seeing what else @jessicanhatch will write in the future.

Thank you @netgalley l and @bookouture for the arc copy in exchange for my honest opinions.

Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for giving me the opportunity to read this eARC for an honest review.

I thought the concept of the book was great, the plot could have been executed a bit better. But I was entertained for sure.

Sadly the FMC (Bea) I really didn’t care for in the end. She was whiny, extremely self-centred, and she didn’t learn from her experience. Where is the development? The twist I saw coming, but it was a bit rushed in execution.

3 stars.

First I want to start by thanking Netgalley and the publisher for an arc of this book in exchange for a honest review. I would give this book a solid 3.5. I was instantly hooked by the story description because it sounded ridiculous but also something I would love to read. I love a good rom-com. The overall story I enjoyed. It some areas I would say it seemed rushed though. Like how Bea's relationship with Andrew seemed almost too rushed. And let's be honest he was a jerk to her at first. I don't even know why she wasted her time. The other thing I didn't enjoy was how rushed and Ray coming back was over within like a page. For college sweethearts it should have been longer. I was so happy she ended up with Oliver though. He was such a sweet wonderful man. Just give a little more context in certain areas and it would help a lot. Overall I would definitely recommend reading it though. If you love a good funny rom.

I thought I would like this story but the more I got into it the main character and the sorry overall just did not feel right and I could not keep going sorry.

I so wanted to love this book! I loved the description, but the actual story just didn't measure up. Which is so disappointing because I love a good wedding troupe romcom.

When Bea Corbin enters a lottery to win her perfect wedding, she never imagines that her name will be picked right after she’s been cheated on, and unceremoniously dumped, by her ex-boyfriend. But when the event planner calls with the good news, Bea doesn’t say any of that. She panics and says yes.

Bea was kind of annoying and whiny and I just couldn't find myself routing for her. She's basically just trying to find any male to marry so that she could have her dream wedding. There was no emotion throughout the entire story. I couldn't connect to any of the characters and it was pretty predictable, I found myself skimming to the end because I just couldn't read it anymore.

Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

2 stars!

I really did not like "My Big Fake Wedding." At all. Apart from the semi-cute premise and maybe the first 10ish% of the book, I actively disliked this title.

I did not identify with any of the characters, especially the 29-year-old Bea, who is more immature than my friend's 5-year-old child. What a selfish, delusional jerk in desperate need of therapy and an intervention. I haven't met a protagonist quite like her in my journey as a romance reader, and that's not a good thing. When she's not being berserk or a shallow, self-absorbed wretch, Bea is an absolute bore. It seems like her parents don't even like being around her. Lucy, Charlie, and Oliver deserved a better mate than Bea. With friends like her, who needs enemies?

Bea and Andrew have absolutely no chemistry whatsoever, and I never once believed them as a couple. Seriously, I've read books about alien invasions and vampires and otherworldly creatures more believable than this story. We are told for 3/4ths of the book that Andrew is the best boyfriend/soon-to-be husband of all time, and then all of a sudden, virtually out of nowhere, POOF, he turns into the turd of the century? WHAT?! And then you add on the "twist" ending that basically comes out of nowhere but is also somehow entirely predictable at the same time? Yikes. The plot is a forced mess.

It pains me to rate books poorly because authors put so much time and effort into the process. Unfortunately, none of the characters in "My Big Fake Wedding" exhibit any growth, and no one becomes a better person because of their actions. It's not romantic. It's not particularly funny, nor is it particularly well written. On top of all this, it's kind of a slog to get through. It irritated me beyond belief. I was not too fond of this book, nor can I recommend it.

Thank you to NetGalley, the author, and Bookouture for providing me with an ARC copy of this book! All opinions are my own, and I was not compensated for my review in any way.

First, I want to thank Jessica Hatch, Bookouture and NetGalley for this book so I can bring you this review.

If you are looking for an extremely funny laugh out loud read look no further than Jessica Hatch’s My Big Fake Wedding!! Oh this was the fun easy read that I was looking to get my hands on. Jessica will have you smiling ear to ear and giggle.

Whomever designed the cover for My Big Fake Wedding was a genius as it definitely caught my eye. Not to mention the comical title.

Jessica’s story is a totally fresh and unique storyline and I totally loved the concept. I could totally see myself entering a contest like she did as a joke! However, her joke became reality and then the fun began!

If you are like me and love all things pop culture you will love the many references. I am a huge NSYNC fan and had to smile at all the times they were referenced.

What I felt was unique about this book was every so often the main character would write a to do list and we the readers got to get a glimpse of that.

This book had a promising start, I really enjoyed it for the first... thirty percent? But I think it began to go downhill quite quickly. It is almost the type of change you'd think of if the author took a major break from writing as the style and just overall story telling was completely changed within a page.

The premise of this book is great, the protagonist Beatrice gets a call saying that she has won a raffle for the wedding package she signed up for months ago when she was with Ray. It's a $50,000 wedding package for only $2,000; what a deal! The only problem is that she doesn't have a boyfriend, but that doesn't mean she can help herself from accepting the date, even though the lady on the phone was quite pushy and demanding.

Immediately after Bea gets in a fender bender, getting rear ended, which still isn't fixed by the end of the book btw, and she almost immediately tells her friends Oliver and Lucy, who immediately wonder what the hell she is thinking, she has a wedding with no groom! But she figures out an idea to find a groom for the wedding, she ends up setting her sight on Andrew, a co-worker who in all honesty is a complete tool, but she proceeds with that entire plan and it is the whole premise for the whole book.

From thirty percent of the way through, questionable things began to happen, like Bea began to be so selfish and, quite frankly, rude to everyone, and whilst she was getting to know Andrew, she was even worse. I thought she was mostly relatable but the closer I got to the end I began to change my opinion on that.

I think the main issues I had with this book was due to the writing being a bit flat, it felt quite surface level, and it was most noticeable in scenes that were meant to be major, or ones where it was meant to be a heartfelt scene.

I did enjoy this book, and if I could I would give in 3.25 stars however it just fell a bit flat for me and it isn't a book I see myself remembering and almost immediately needing to re read it.

I am grateful that I got given this book to review and all opinions stated are my own.

When I read the synopsis of this book, I was really excited. It reminded me of The Spanish Love Deception by Elena Armas which I was absolutely in love with. I can't begin to tell you enough good things about that book but I digress. This book was a no for me. I wasn't able to finish it and it was a DNF. I just couldn't get myself to like the main character or even root for her. She was narcissistic and just too much. This book had me wanting her to fail by the end just so she would learn some humility. This isn't to say that someone else might not enjoy this story, I just didn't.

Tried and failed multiple times, the blurb was so promising but the book didn't deliver.
I DNFd at some point because I just couldn't anymore.
Didn't enjoy some of the speech and writing styles. FMC was so self absorbed, I couldn't even take a liking to her. The relationships didn't gather enough chemistry on the pages and I didn't find myself interested after a while.

Beatrice wins a once in a lifetime competition for her perfect competition, but there's one small problem, she's single. This story follows Beatrice as she battles to find her Prince Charming to marry. This is a hilarious rom com, with funny and charming characters, which will lead you to forget your reading. This is a new storyline in the romance genre for me, one I haven't seen before. This is a story about finding love in unexpected places, and that perhaps kissing your boss isn't the best idea.

The writing style was perfect and is the perfect romance book to curl up with. I was hooked from start to finish, and was so eager to find out who Bea was going to marry. I felt truly invested in her and her friends lives, and was obsessed with all the drama going on outside of the romance as it made me feel truly connected to the world

Thank you NetGalley for an ARC of this book.

I requested this book because of the amount of great reviews it has and I'm so glad I did. This book completely surpassed my expectations in so many ways and I wish I already had the physical copy of it to put on my shelf!

Bea has broken up with her boyfriend when she finds out that she’s won a competition to have her dream wedding staged. But instead of telling the event planner the truth, she goes ahead with plans for a big summer wedding.
All she needs to do now is find the groom! Maybe her smooth colleague Andrew will be the one.
The premise had potential to be a real amusing story of a bride desperately hunting for a fiance while hiding the secret from her wedding planners. I don’t know what happened between the pitch and the final product but the execution of this was completely off.
Bea was a horrible character – and not in a good, entertaining way either. She was selfish, self-absorbed, absurd; her love interest was similarly annoying; her job wasn’t particularly interesting; and the other guy was bland as. Not worth RSVPing for this wedding.

BLOG TOUR REVIEW

Review for 'My Big Fake Wedding' by Jessica Hatch.

Read and reviewed via NetGalley for Jessica Hatch, Bookouture publishers and Bookouture anonymous

Publication date 18th August 2022.

This is the first book I have read by this author.

I was originally drawn to this book by its eye catching unique cover and intriguing as well as hilarious sounding synopsis and title. The synopsis stated that 'This absolutely hilarious and totally feel-good romance is perfect for fans of Ali Hazelwood’s The Love Hypothesis, Christina Lauren’s The Unhoneymooners, and Emily Henry’s Beach Read. ' I am a fan of 'The Honeymooners' so am looking forward to seeing if this lives up to this statement. I must admit I was also biased due to the publisher being Bookouture. I have yet to read a book published by Bookouture that I haven't enjoyed. Hopefully this won't be the first... Watch this space! (Written before I started reading the book).

This novel consists of 26 chapters. The chapters are a mixture of length ranging from medium and some long in length so possible to read 'just one more chapter' before bed...OK, I know yeah right, but still just in case!

This book is based in Virginia, USA 🇺🇸.

This book is written in third person perspective with the protagonists being Beatrice Corbin. The benefits of third person perspective are that it let's you see the bigger picture of what's going on and you get to know more characters more, what they are thinking and what they are doing. It feels like you get to see the whole picture and not miss out in anything.

This book was quite fast paced, different and fun. I devoured it in one reading and was completely absorbed throughout!! This is the first book that I have listened 100% on Audiobook. If I listen to a book on audiobook I usually also read the physical book between but for the first time I listened to the whole book and I was impresse! I must say a HUGE congratulations to the narrator Stephanie Cannon who did a great job bringing this story to life. I would listen to it in the car and while walking at any opportunity and Stephanie did a brilliant job on both male and female characters voices!!! I'm not only looking forward to reading more books by Jessica but also to listening to more books narrated by Stephanie. I found myself laughing one moment while feeling quite emotional the next. I adore the fact that although there are quite sad moments and emotional times that within minutes Jessica has you laughing until you are in tears again. There were a couple of points that I did find frustrating such as the peanut allergy scene, I'm not sure if this realistically would have happened due to health and safety regulations. I also wasn't a huge fan of Bea but I will go more into that later. I also did not understand the point of Bea's company if I'm completely honest. I must admit I found a certain event to be quite predictable. However, I do love the fact that there is a very unique moment in this book which sadly I can't go into as I don't want to spoil it for future readers but I definitely agree with what Jessica states in the letter from her at the end. I also absolutely LOVED the 'To Do' lists at the end of each of the chapters. These were also a unique addition to the book that gave that extra sprinkle of fun to the storyline!

This is probably a first for me but I really could not click with Bea, the main protagonist, at all yet I continued to read and even finish the book!!! I found Bea very self-centred and selfish and I don't understand how Lucy, Charlie and Oliver put up with her as a friend!!! I also wasn't a huge fan of Andrew who I found to be false and also selfish. However, I absolutely LOVED Lucy, Charlie and Oliver who were all great friends to Bea who, I think, took them all for granted. The only thing that I found quite nasty about these three (well one) was something Lucy had said to Bea which was mean but at the same time I think she had been pushed to breaking point by Bea at this point. I may not have liked the main character which is a first for me BUT as I have always said, if you liked every character in a book it wouldn't be very interesting!! You need complex and different personalities, some of which may clash with a reader to make a book come alive!

A MASSIVE WELL DONE to Jessica on a romcom with a twist!!! I am looking forward to reading more of your future books.

Overall a unique, refreshing and sweet romcom with a lovely twist.

Genres covered in this book include Fiction, Romance Novel, Contemporary Romance, Humourous Literary Fiction, Romance Literary Fiction, Rural Life Humour, Love, Sex & Marriage Humour and Women's Humourous Fiction amongst others.

I would recommend this book to the fans of the above as well as fans of Ali Hazelwood’s 'The Love Hypothesis' , Christina Lauren’s 'The Unhoneymooners' Emily Henry’s 'Beach Read' and anyone looking for a unique uplifting, fun and refreshing romcom.

348 pages/9 hours 13 minutes

This book is just 99p to purchase on kindle via Amazon which I think is an absolute bargain for this book!!!

This book is £18.29 to purchase as Audiobook or 1 credit or £7.99 if you have Audible Premium Plus.

Rated 4/5 (I enjoyed it ) on Goodreads, Instagram, Amazon UK and Amazon US and on over 30 Facebook pages plus my blog on Facebook.

Thank you to NetGalley and bookouture for the arc of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I was excited to read this as the storyline sounded so unique. I mean, who enters a competition to win your dream wedding when you aren’t even engaged, and then who actually accepts the prize when you no longer even have a boyfriend??? Bea does, that’s who!

Going about everything backwards, Bea needs to find the groom for her dream wedding, and she has 8 months to do so. How hard could it be?!

This book had so much potential. But oh my the characters were seriously lacking. Bea was the most self absorbed person I have ever read about. There was nothing to like. The outcome was very predictable, which is fine and common in romance books, but when they finally did get together it still didn’t feel natural or that there was any chemistry.

Overall, lots of potential but came up lacking for me.

I so wanted to like this book… I thought the premise sounded interesting, but I just could not bring myself to cheer for the main character. I found her unlikeable and did not feel like she grew at all throughout the book. She kept making the same selfish, frustrating mistakes. She reminded me a lot of Ginnifer Goodwin’s character in He’s Just Not That Into You. I also felt like all of the romantic relationships in the book were superficial and I did not feel the connections between characters, which even extended to the friendships. I did generally like the way the book ended; however, toward the end it also felt like a lot of things were happening and getting wrapped up really quickly. While this particular book did not really work for me, I am still interested in seeing what Hatch writes next.
