A female character winning a free wedding and having to find a fiancé in less than 8 months? The kind of book I thought it was for me. And it had a lot of potential but in reality, I don’t think wasn’t the one.
Beatrice’s calm after accepting the date and the place of her own wedding when she doesn’t have a fiancée —nor a boyfriend for that matter, is strange. At least, for me. She’s described as a determined person (what she wants, she gets), but I believe panicking (a bit) would have been a great and powerful start. She eventually panics, but I think the author could have explored that.
Furthermore, she’s very selfish, and she doesn’t learn. Which, honestly, it’s not something I search in a protagonist.
All the relationships felt very forced to me. And, overall, I feel that everything in this story needs a bit of work. I think the execution for this story is terrible.
Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for providing an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Bea is busy working at this startup company and getting over her ex boyfriend of 7 years when she gets a phone call saying she won her dream wedding. This wedding is valued at 50k so of course Bea accepts and puts down the 2k deposit, but the problem is she’s single. Bea is starting to feel crazy when she starts hitting it off with her office crush Andrew. Will things work out with him and will Bea get her dream wedding?
Thank you to Jessica Hatch ,Bookouture, & the NetGalley for the ARC of this book. I enjoyed this light and cheesy romance novel. Bea is a character that is hard to like because she’s so focused on finding a husband eeand work and not so much about her friends and others. Overall I enjoyed the book and was able to read is very fast.
I’m afraid I didn’t loooove this book. I liked Bea and Lucy and Oliver. I liked their friendship. I wasn’t a fan of the whole GUM set up. The bosses were odd, the calls in the middle of the night seemed really unrealistic as did andrew agreeing to the whole marriage thing and the bit where Ray reappeared was also a bit odd. It felt predictable but not in a fun to read way, just in a, come on let’s get to the point of this story way… it’s hard to describe but bits of it were quite wooden and boring and the other bits were just a bit too obvious.
The concept of the book was unique and interesting. Really liked the story line. The book started on a very high and good note, however, after few chapters the kind of got boring for me. Not really the lead's desperation to find a groom at all cost. If the story was written a little better than the book could have been mind-blowing but unfortunately, that was not the case.
I was hooked at the idea of this book. A rom-com centered around a fake wedding just seemed absolutely perfect! However, the book itself was very average, there weren't parts that made me swoon until I fell off my chair or laugh out loud until tears spilled out of my eyes. The blurb was so exciting, but I kept waiting for something to actually happen in the book. Bea, the protagonist was annoying at certain times but I can totally understand her sunken-cost mentality and desire to have a Pinterest planned life. It just didn't meet my expectations, but it was somewhat calming to read about another person who desperately wants to plan out her life but ends up just leaning in to the messiness of life.
Main character comes across too desperate for it to be cute, ends up just being cringey. She's overly dramatic and weirdly convinced that this impulse is now going to be the driving force in her life, and strong-arms everyone into being on board, including her parents. Fixated on one specific guy, who she doesn't even really know, and forces him into the mold of "I must get married by X date."
Everything is about her; she doesn't even step up for her friend's crisis. A romance or rom-com is supposed to be about two people, but this girl just loves herself.
What the heck? Now she's stealing some unknown kid's birthday cake! Seriously, the only reason I'm still reading is that it's a netgalley and I have to finish it to be able to write an honest review. On track to be a 1 or 2 star at the moment.
Most of the book she's forcing a relationship with her desperation guy, then 85% or 93% of the way through gets all horny for the other guy and has an epiphany that now she wants him instead. Seriously? I don't want to read the majority of a book of the main character's relationship with the wrong guy.....
And good lord, she's not even the one to figure out how to make it up to her friend for being a terrible person, HE'S the one who thinks of it. She just goes along with it to get the credit like the self-absorbed jerk that she is.
Good idea for a story, terrible execution, very unlikable characters. I honestly didn't want her to get a happily ever after, she doesn't deserve it. The book would have been infinitely better if it had just been about Lucy and Charlie.
Bea enters a lottery to win a perfect wedding and wins! The only problem is when she entered, she was with Ray, and now Ray has cheated on her and dumped her for someone else! Is that a problem for Bea…no! She just needs to find someone now who wants to marry her in 8 months’ time!
I loved the idea of this book, and the cover was so bright and cheerful who couldn’t help but be enticed into reading this! Bea is a funny character, and we go straight into the storyline with Bea finding out she’s won the perfect wedding. I love how she tells her family and friends straight away that she’s getting married without even a second thought and it did make me chuckle how the consequences of everything only cross her mind after she’s done it! Bea’s search for the perfect…and willing…husband doesn’t go quite to plan and throughout the book we experience her ups and down in finding a suitable match!
This is a light-hearted read and is perfect to settle down with. It was an uncomplicated storyline that moved through at a good pace, and I loved the little to-do lists that Bea made at the end of each chapter! Whilst I liked Bea’s character, some of the other characters were a bit like marmite – you either loved them or you didn’t, but there was a good mixture of different personalities within the group! It was an entertaining story which held my attention throughout, with a lovely happy ending to finish! Will definitely be looking out for more by this author!
I did enjoy this book if not the storyline is very far fetched but it was funny in partsand i would read more by tbe author.
I wanted to love this book but I just couldn’t. I thought this was going to be full of all the fake dating that I love but that isn’t really what happened at all. Besides this Bea made for an insufferable main character. There wasn’t a single moment where I felt bad for her and wanted her to get a happy ending. She was so self absorbed I almost wanted things to end badly for her. I did find the ending of this book cute, but all around it wasn’t for me.
Thank you netgalley for giving me an arc of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Not my favorite book. The plot just wasn't doing it for me and the writing style felt super cringy. Nothing against the author since others seem to really enjoy it, but not the right one for me.
Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with this arc in return for an honest review. This is a friends to lovers romance full of humor. It was witty and will have you letting out a cackle or two every so often. It was fast paced and I felt things happened a little too quickly and I did expect a little more character development and tension building between the two friends. Not the book for me.
A perfect beach read! Lighthearted and i found myself chuckling along the way. thank you netgalley & the publisher for the ARC!
Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for providing me with an e-arc. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
It story was interesting but expected a lot more growth in characters along the story.
I love the word fake, for the fiction world of course. Hey hey!wait!i should specify. I love fake dating leads to love, fake wedding leads to love. So obviously i had great expectations from this book. I requested this book because of the title. And how was it? Amazing! I loved the book. The characters were written amazingly. They give you butterflies. They make you laugh, sad, angry and feel loved.
This book wasn't for me sadly. It was very flat and everything happed so fast that it wasn't believable. It was hard to form any attachment to the characters because they all were so flat and their actions were so predictable.
A fun friends to lovers storyline. A sweet romantic read. A storyline that was fun with a few laugh out loud moments. I liked the characters in this book.
This book really had great potential but it just not do it for me. The concept sounded interesting to me and it would be something I would usually reach for but the characters in the book are not written well at all. I feel like the main character (Bea) really put me off. She comes across really self centred and self absorbed and doesn’t really seem to care about anything but herself. She’s constantly making bad decisions and doesn’t seem to grow or learn from her mistakes.
The chemistry between her and Andrew just wasn’t there and it felt very forced to me. I also feel there’s a lot of unnecessary information about Beas job and even after reading over that information for a second time I still don’t really understand what the company she works for does.
There were too many cringe moments in this book, don’t get me wrong I don’t mind a little cringe but this books just crossed the line of appropriate cringe for me.
Overall, I feel the way the characters are portrayed needs a lot of work, they are what carry and make a good story, I want to see them make mistakes but I also want to see growth and development and relatability which there just wasn’t.
✨SUPER CUTIE!✨
Friends to lovers is always my favorite trope. I was rooting for Bea and Oliver to finally, finally get together!
This was such an original story and everything you could want in a romcom!
Read is you love:
- fake dating
- friends to lovers
- anxiety rep
- to-do lists
- quirky MCs
I was given an ARC copy by netgalley and the publisher for an honest review.
I've had to label this DNF.
It has a good concept but I feel that it needs to be developed more.
I skipped to the end to see if I could muster up some interest, but instead I found that you don't meet the guy she actually marries till chapter 5.
This book was a light romance that I liked but I did not find that it hit everything it was supposed to. I found the characters a little two-dimensional since they were prone to constant and unexplained mood swings. However, what was there was promising. The same went for the premise of the book. The idea of breaking up with a boyfriend and winning a wedding lottery is great but some plot points seemed to be missing since there was more emphasis on the character’s career path than the upcoming wedding. In conclusion, I was definitely interested in seeing where the story ended but this book didn’t blow me away.
