A book that is part of a series, but could be started alone- has the charm of books you just want to snuggle up and read with.

The real mystery happens almost halfway through.
Perfect for middle-aged American women who like the idea of traveling and think that if they would travel, they’d bump into royalty.

The third book in the Mitten State Mystery series takes Isabel to Cornwall to visit her new friend and popular mystery writer, Teddy Mansfield. The first half of the novel introduces readers to the English coast and to all the characters, and soon to be named possible murder suspects, in the charming town of Mousehole. When the long-running scone baking championship winner is found dead in her primrose garden, Isabel helps the newly appointed chief inspector solve his first murder case. The Isabel Puddles series is a fun read for fans of senior sleuth cozy mysteries. M.V. Byrne creates interesting characters with distinct, yet familiar personalities. The novels can be read as stand-alone books, but it is highly recommended readers begin with book one to enjoy the true Isabel Puddles experience.

Senior slueth, Isabel Puddles, travels to England for the first time to visit her friend Teddy, a successful mystery writer. Teddy's housekeeper Tuppence has entered the annual village scone contest and hopes to finally beat her nemesis, Hyacinth. During the bake off, Tuppence's scones fail to rise and Hyacinth wins the bake-off again. Tuppence is steamed when she learns Hyacinth had her son Alby tamper with her baking ingredients. A few days later Isabel is out walking Teddy's Corgis when they get loose in front of Hyacinth's house and begin digging in the flower bed, where they unearth Hyacinth's body in a shallow grave. Hyacinth was a mean spirited woman who mistreated her son and had enemies in the villiage, including Teddy's snobby sister, Miltilde. The inspector on the case is a friend of Teddy's, and this is his first murder investigation. Isabel puts her sleuthing skills to use to help the inspector unearth a killer. This was an enjoyable book with colorful characters, a good plot, and lots of twists and turns that kept me guessing til the end. This is the first book I've read in this series but It won't be my last! Thank you to the publisher and to netgalley for letting me read this advance copy.

I wanted to thank you for allowing me to read this book in advance. I love this series and Isabel Puddles is one of my favorite protagonists. I just love that name. She is still continuing her sleuthing, but this time in England where where she has traveled to visit her friend. When murder occurs and many of her new-found friends are suspected, she can't help involving herself to find the real culprint. I will definitely recommend this book and the series to my customers.

I adore Isabel Puddles and this book kept me reading straight from beginning to end.
I was thrilled that Isabel decides to go to England and visit Teddy.
Tuppence is an absolutely wonderful character, and I hope we get to see more of her in future books.
We know Isabel cannot help but find herself wrapped up in a murder investigation, and this one had some great twists and turns.
The story and mystery were woven together so well, I had to remind myself that I wasn’t really in the book, investigating with them all.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for selecting me to read an advanced copy of this book.
