Princess Fuzzypants here: Thomas Wolfe was right. You cannot go home and expect to find what mew left behind. Retta must make a career decision but instead of doing it, she impulsively gets in her car and drives to the lakeside town where she spent her summers as a child. What she finds are more changes than she could have imagined including the ramshackle shape of her Gram’s formerly beach front cottage. Her three closest friends are still there but life has dealt them some devastating blows and except for picking up where she left off with her teenage crush, Dean, no one and nothing is the same.

The biggest difference seems to revolve around an entrepreneur named Magruder who bought up businesses and property on the cheap and made changes that were not in the best interests of the local residents. He even owns Gram’s old home which Retta bargains to rent and possibly buy. She does not find him to be the outright villain she was led to believe he was. He has his flaws but there is something more insidious and closer to home that is the true cancer affecting the community.

Things work out in the end but I was not left with a desire to see what happens next. For whatever reason the characters were okay but not overly compelling. Three purrs and two paws up.

Fun fast read great for a summer afternoon. Retta is an engaging likeable character. Coming back to her grandmother's house to find it in undesirable conditions. I enjoyed this cozy mystery. Rette was an interesting character, as were the rest of the characters. I sincerely hope there will be more books featuring Rette.

The school year is over and while Retta has an offer to teach next year, she’s not thrilled about the grade change. Feeling restless, she decides to go back to where she felt content and happy: Moon Lake and her family’s ice cream stand. When she arrives, she’s in for a rude awakening. Nothing is as she remembers it and even worse, the ice cream stand is on the brink of collapse. Will no one stand up to this bully of a man who’s buying up property and letting them fall to ruin? As Retta’s hope circles the drain, she wonders why she even bothers. All her dreams are dashed. Can Retta save the ice cream stand and in the process Moon Lake, showing other residents that it can be done? Or has she no other choice but to go back to her old life, desolate and unhappy?

Double Dipped is a summer mystery beach read full of nostalgia and turmoil. Nothing says summer like a small lakeside community and an ice cream stand. But when disaster strikes, this same community needs to either band together or fold up and move. It’s an interesting mystery and the basic theme of Double Dipped. I connected with Retta from the start. She’s a very likable character standing at a crossroads. Which direction she steers her life will determine her level of happiness. A very relatable premise indeed. Double Dipped is a summertime mystery I enjoyed. Terry Korth Fischer has written a beach read for mystery lovers. I enjoyed reading this book and following Retta as she maneuvers through a difficult time. The setting is described beautifully. The narration and plot are easy to follow with plenty of characters to interact with. The ending is sweet and made me smile. If you love mysteries with a bit of romance, pick Double Dipped. Cozy mystery readers will also love Double Dipped. Highly recommend!

I liked this for the most part but some of the story was confusing. I like the premise and the mystery was interesting. I look forward to reading the next in the series.

This is the first book that I have read from this author, and while I found parts of it confusing, the rest of the book was well done.
Retta returns to her grandmother’s home, only to find it in disrepair and for sale. She takes the chance and buys it, but when a dead body is discovered, things change direction quickly.
I think Double Dipped has good bones for a new series, so I’m going to keep my eye out for the next book.
