This book is not your typical romance story, it was much more interesting because of the on-going investigation and mysteries there, as well as the fact that the main character was a more fully developed, multi-dimensional, believable character. And in fact more time was spent on the investigation than on the romance, so it kept me wanting to read more to find out more. However, the male protagonist had some really strong resemblances with 50 Shades of Gray, which made him feel predictable and done before. But overall it was a really enjoyable easy read that is more intriguing and interesting than your average romance. I must add, though, that there were quite a lot of typos and punctuation errors that really distracted from the actual content. This should go through one more editing review.

The Client by Karissa Knight.
Mina's choice book 1.
Wilhelmina Green is the lawyer of choice for Chicago's wealthy offenders. Mina’s latest victory, the acquittal of a U.S. senator, has made her a media sensation. To the outside world she appears to have it all, but she’s still searching for a man with the strength to bring her dark fantasies to life.
CEO Jonathon Thomas Heun, a suspect in the death of his personal assistant, hires Mina to represent him. He slowly draws her into his seductive world of wealth and power as they investigate the murder. Despite her attraction to him Mina holds back, sensing Jonathon is keeping part of himself closed off from the world. And from her.
As the passion of their affair intensifies, Mina soon realizes her desires were just the beginning of an erotic dive into Jonathon’s lifestyle.
An OK read. Slow but readable with likeable characters. I didn't trust Jonathan or Travis. I did like Mina though. I would like to read more about Mina. I do hope there is more to come. 3*.

The Client by Karissa Knigh gave me mixed feelings. While the suspence aspect of the book kept me hooked, the spicy scenes somehow felt ...clinical and cliched.
The story- a lawyer hired to keep a ...millionaire? billionaire? ... out of jail- was fascinating. The mystery of who was behind the murders of the women connected to Jonathon Thomas Heun (the male main character) was riveting. The complexity of Wilhelmina Mary Green (the female main character) was very well done. Their forbidden relationship seemed to fall into place very easily. The intimate scenes, however, felt like they were lacking substance, somehow. Their first encounter was reminiscent of "blink and you miss it". Their exploration into BDSM was...not the best. It was basically Mina begging for more and Jonathon backing off for some unknown reasons.
There were a couple of inconsistencies which popped out and stuck with me- a mention that "Wil would soon make six-figures" As a lawyer of her calibre, shouldn't she already be making atleast that much? Maybe it was meant to be seven-figures.
Another inconsistency popped up when The Client contract was brought up by Jonathan. The name "Wilhelmina Mary Green" is mentioned multiple times. Yet the contract had the name "Wilhelmina A. Green". What does the A stand for? Was it meant to be M or is there another middle name that the reader has not been aware of?
There were also some spelling errors of sorts- "Lohmann" was "Loman" in one instance.
Overall, I love the development that Mina goes through. She's a strong independent woman who definitely has great character growth throught the arc of the story. Jonathon was honestly still a mystery to me even in the end. A little less than when he was first introduced, but still rather complicated and aloof in the end as well.
The epilogue seems to imply that there will be more to come. I hope that's true and I will definitely continue to read about Mina and Jonathon's story, just to see Mina blossom and maybe try to connect more with Jonathan Thomas Heun.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for providing a free copy in exchange of an honest review. The book is about a criminal lawyer named Wilhelmina known as Wil to her friends or Mina to Jonathon who got famous for defending high profile clients who are definitely bad people. She meets Jonathon, “the most eligible bachelor” who wants her to represent him and from there she learns more about her sensuality and falling in love with her client but of course it’s forbidden and there’s the hangup on whether he’s innocent or not. The writing is honestly really good and definitely made me invested with the characters. I personally have never experienced what Mina experienced but the author made me somehow relate and understand her. Jonathon well there is an air of mystery around him. There are some parts that I do take issue like mentioning COVID 19 which took me out a bit. I know the character, Whitney is suspicious and Jonathon doesn’t trust her but calling her a “bisexual manipulator” just seems kinda off? Especially with Mina also kinda leaning both ways sexually. Anyway I wished there were more scenes on why and how they fell in love because idk it just seemed like they’re attracted sexually and like vampires. Since the book is inspired by Dracula I assume with the numerous Dracula and vampire references, I was half expecting a supernatural aspect but oh well. Maybe there’ll be a sequel? I hope so!
