The author's knowledge of English Literature informs every page of this superb novel. He seduces his readers with a vast array of literary quotes.
I love the creative writing group and their various literary efforts. All their little jealousies and nuanced jibes are so true to life. All those dreams of success still waiting to happen.
The story within a story works perfectly here and allows for a grey area of overlap between invented fact and fiction.
The author pays homage to a whole host of writers including Du Maurier, Joyce and Machen, borrowing tropes from masters of the supernatural.
I was fascinated and intrigued by the strange events that took place in Bromsgrove in the 1930s. A beautifully written and highly unusual novel.

A fairly measured pace meant I did not finish this book, so was unable to reach the descriptions of Bromsgrove I was looking for
