This was such a good book! I will definitely be looking for other books by this author! I would definitely recommend this book! It had some parts that threw me for a loop and shocked me!

Lie To Her is an enthralling addition to the Bree Taggert saga. Bree and her team take on a psychopath killer whose victims hit close to home. I really enjoy this author and this series. Bree is entirely relatable and who wouldn’t want a honey like Matt. The mystery keeps you riveted and guessing. Heartily recommend.

I've really enjoyed this series and this book was no exception (this book can be read as a standalone so no worries if you haven't read the other books in the series yet). Melinda Leigh has done a great job with the characters, especially main character, Bree Taggert. She is dedicated and takes her responsibility as sheriff very seriously. I especially love that she's not afraid to put herself in harms way to protect her people and she doesn't put up with nonsense or have time to play politics. Matt Flynn is a perfect compliment to Bree in both their personal and work relationships, and best of all he accepts that her niece and nephew are a priority for Bree.

This was a fast-paced read and once I started I didn't want to put the book down. There was no lag time, it felt like something was happening at every turn of the page. There was even an added and unexpected element of danger that had my skin crawling and heart racing...

I'm glad there are more books planned in this series as I'm not ready to be done with Bree's and Matt's story and I can't wait to see what happens next.

Thank you to Montlake and NetGalley for providing a copy for review.

4 stars!

When I requested this book from NetGalley, I was unaware that it was a standalone book that's also part of an ongoing series following Bree Taggert, the sheriff of a small town. I was simply drawn in by the cover of this book. I guess I am going to have to go back and read the rest of Melinda Leigh's novels because "Lie to Her" is great! I couldn't put this one down. It's a police procedural, which is not typically my cup of tea, but I was drawn in by Bree Taggert and her life, trauma, and job. The book is a quick read full of twists and turns and revelations. I thought they all worked out in a very compelling manner. It kept me guessing the entire time. Having only read this one book, I can tell that Melinda Leigh has constantly been improving Bree's skills as an investigator over time. I like that Leigh doesn't make Bree's relationship with Matt, a criminal investigator she works with, her only defining characteristic. Their relationship is mentioned numerous times, but Bree is more than just a woman with a boyfriend. She's tough as nails, but she also has a sea of grief trauma to navigate following the death of her sister and the "adoption" of her sister's two children. There is a lot going on here in terms of the plot (the dynamic between Bree and her brother, the thing with the horses, the multiple murders, and the relationship between the sheriff's office and the press). but Leigh balances it all well.

Thank you to NetGalley, Melinda Leigh, and Montlake for providing me with an ARC copy of this book! All opinions are my own, and I was not compensated for my review.

Thank you NetGalley for the ARC of Lie To Her by Melinda Leigh that I read and reviewed.
This was the sixth book in the Bree Taggert book and this one was pretty good but it did not pull me in like some of the others have. In this one you had to know a lot about the past that took place to understand a lot of the things that Bree ways referring to when she was talking why she was doing some things and making certain decisions and that was not explained very well unless you have read previous books.
As for this case it was very realistic and one that in some ways could happen to anyone. As for who the killer was I did find it a bit surprising but they must have covered their tracks well.
I am giving this book four out of five stars.

I love this series. Bree and Matt are two of my favorite characters. This story picks up where the last left off. The case that Bree and Matt are working on is interesting and has a number of suspects that had me guessing for a while. I enjoyed the pacing and the resolution to that. I really like all the characters and am happy to see Bree and Matt getting closer. I am already anxiously awaiting the next story in the series. I received an advance copy from NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving a review.

I’m deep in this series and need to catch up with the earlier books, just like my pattern always plays out.
This was an exciting read and I need to be assigned back to desk duty because I fell for the dead end alley Leigh supplied to disguise the true killer.
As Bree and Matt race to solve the deadly dater cases, I shuddered over and over with the slithery element, snakes. I abhor snakes and even reading about them gives me the shivers, yuck.
Leigh is very creative in how she uses them. My favorite scene is at the horse auction, I was glad in what it resulted in.
My heart raced at the end as the conclusion was action packed.
No venom in this review.

A fast-paced mystery that kept me guessing. I thought I had a good idea of what to expect from this suspenseful thriller but the author teased me with twists that surprised me. The tension levels and suspense are high, particularly in the book's final quarter when the lives of characters I didn't want anything to happen to were in danger.

I have to admit I didn't have an awful lot of sympathy for the male victims at the beginning of the book and it wouldn't have been too much for me if the author had decided to do away with a few more like them. Although, maybe resorting to murder is slightly overstepping the mark.

Bree and Matt are much more professional in their outlook and waste no time looking for evidence, motive and suspects. And there are plenty to choose from. The victims have left a string of angry women behind who feel used and discarded so it's no surprise that they are some of many on the suspect list.

I have read a few of the books in this series but each one is easily enjoyed as a standalone. If you like mysteries and thrillers with more emphasis on solving crime than romance then you will enjoy this series. There is a romantic element but it's in the background and very low-key.

The Bree Taggert series is one of the best mystery series out there. If you haven't read any, Melinda Leigh does a nice job of summarizing important things that you need to know about the characters in each book. Lie to Her is book 6 in the Bree Taggert series but you could read this without the others and enjoy it a great deal. The reason that I love the series so much is that not only are you guaranteed a good mystery, but you get so much more. The characters in the series feel like extended family to me and I look forward to seeing what they're up to with each new book.

Lie to Her finds Bree living in her sister's farm house and raising her niece and nephew about 11 months after her sister was murdered. Bree moved to upstate New York from a job with the NYPD to take over parenting duties and she is also the Sheriff. Bree brought Dana with her, a friend and co-worker from the NYPD who was ready to retire. Dana lives at the farm house and helps with the cooking duties and watching the kids when Bree can't be there. Bree has a very good friend, Matt Flynn, who is one of her deputies. He was injured in the line of duty with his K-9 partner, but is able to work side by side with Bree. He's helped Bree to get over her fear of dogs and she now has a rescue dog for the kids. Bree's brother, Adam, lives close by and is an artist who gets huge amounts of money for each painting he does. He helps Bree with the kids, especially financially.

Lie to Her opens with Bree planning Adam's birthday. The kids want to get him a horse that they'll keep and care for at the farm. Adam wants to start riding so Matt and Bree are going to a horse auction for rescues. A call comes in that a man has been found murdered at his home. When Bree and her team arrive the man has been dead for awhile and he's been killed by plastic wrap. The killer wrapped his head in layers of plastic wrap so that he couldn't breathe and would suffer an agonizing death. It seems personal. His hands and feet are bound so that he couldn't help himself. As Bree and her team investigate they find that the victim was on several dating apps and dated many girls at one time. The theory is that maybe one of the women he dated got angry and wanted him to pay.

As they're working on the case another man is found murdered and in the same way! Now Bree is worried that there's a possible serial killer out there. The second victim was also using several dating apps and dating many women at once. None of the people that are interviewed during the investigation has anything good to say about either victim. They used the women and then broke up with them by text. This made several of the women very angry as they thought there was a real connection. As Bree goes to the home of the second victim, a surprise is waiting for her. The killer has left a note for Bree to watch her step and before you know it there's a rattling sound and a snake appears ready to strike. Bree and Matt are able to get out of the house without the snake striking them and animal control is called to help. The first victim had many cages of snakes in his basement and some of the cages were missing.

The book does a great job of getting you so involved that you'll read it very quickly. It's always fun trying to guess who did it and why and this one is tough. There are so many potential murderers that were treated badly by the victims. Did one of the women from the dating app kill the men? Did the brother of the first victim get jealous of his brother and murder him and others? Will Bree and her team be able to solve the case before more people are murdered? What happens when the third victim hits close to home for Bree? Will she be able to get there in time? Will Bree and Matt get Adam a horse at the auction? Will Bree and Matt's relationship continue to grow closer? Do yourself a favor and read Lie to Her and the other books in the series by Melinda Leigh. I love these books so much that when I finish one I'm sad because I have to wait a while for the next one. I can't wait for book 7! I rate this book 5 stars.

I'd like to thank NetGalley and Bookouture for an advanced copy of Lie to Her in exchange for a fair review! #LietoHer

Leigh is a favorite author and this recent entry in the Bree Taggert series doesn’t disappoint. Leigh not only writes a great police procedural, with such a topical plotline, but her primary and secondary characters are always incredibly well-rounded. In fact, I love seeing how well everyone is doing. This book left me the edge till the very end and I can’t wait to see what’s next for Bree. While this book could be read as a stand-alone, this is the sixth book in the series and would suggest starting with Cross Her Heart, book one, so you get the best reading experience.

I received this eARC thanks to NetGalley & Montlake in exchange for an honest review.

Someone is off killing men who find women through a dating app. I think I've read this one a few times, but each author has given it their own twist to keep the mystery fresh. This installment in the series felt a bit awkward to me. A lot was incredibly predictable and some of the conversations were just odd. At one point Bree is explaining to Matt why they do their job and things like that. It felt very grandstanding like it came out of a cheesy cop show instead of a natural conversation between two people. I recognize that the author was trying to make a point about how Bree felt at that moment, but it came of as a total caricature. Things like this, sprinkled throughout the book, left it feeling a bit disjointed. Combined with the predictability left me less engaged than normal. I have seen and expect better from the writing in this series. But I still love the characters and can't wait to see what comes next.

A new killer is on the loose and Bree has her work cut out for her. This killer is ruthless and cruel and has left several bodies in his/or her wake. With Matt by her side and a loyal staff behind her, Bree will find the killer. But will she manage to do it before more lives are lost, or heaven forbid the killer strikes a little closer to home? Juggling her sisters children, her love life and her career has never seemed harder, but strength and fortitude and determination is something Bree has in spades and she has not let a killer get the better of her yet! I love Bree and her little family and her cases always leave me on the edge of my seat!

Lie to Her, by Melinda Leigh, is a fast-paced police procedural that had me hooked from beginning to end! It is #6 in the Bree Taggert series, but reads well as a stand-alone novel.
Sheriff Bree Taggert and her boyfriend criminal investigator Matt are looking into the brutal murders of two local men. As they sift through the evidence, the darker sides of the victims’ lives are exposed, as well as those of a number of local denizens. There are plenty of twists as Bree and Matt follow the leads with the urgent knowledge that another killing is imminent.
Leigh’s writing is skillful, with eloquent turns of phrase, such as “Regret washed over her like cold rain.” Her characters leap off the page well-formed—it is easy to like Bree and Matt, as well as their extended families. All the characters feel real and honest. The vignettes of home life with cats, dogs, kids, and horses add humanity to this story.
I highly recommend this compelling police procedural suspense with a warm family heart.

Thank you to Montlake and NetGalley for the ARC. This my honest review.

Lie to Her is book six in the Detective Bree Taggert series. This book can be a stand-alone but the whole series is fantastic why would you want to miss out.

Just as Bree is settling down to watch a movie with her niece and nephew, she gets a call there has been a murder. A man has been found by his date shortly after the murder. His hands have been bound with zip ties and his face with plastic wrap. The man told the woman he was dating that he was a self-employed digital marketer, but he is in debt up to his eyeballs and works for Electronics Depot as an assistant manager. It would appear the victim is less than honest.

As they investigate the victim, they are told he dates a lot by using dating apps which should give them more information on the victim. Meanwhile another murder has been committed and it looks as if it is done by the same murderer. The only difference is the first victim had "liar" carved in his forehead and the second had "cheat" on his. Things are escalating pretty quickly as Adam, Bree's brother, goes missing.

This is a riveting and action packed read. The characters are likeable and worth caring about. The story continues from the previous books so there is continuity from book to book, which keeps the reader wanting more as the story continues from this to the next.

Rating edit: 3.5 stars.

I like Melinda Leigh stories especially Bree-Matt chemistry is really cool, plus these two characters are good individually as well. I can pick any book in this series without even reading the blurb (you can read them as standalone novels).

Her writing style is engaging that makes the book engrossing. It kept me interested even though I was able to predict. However, I thought the last few pages dragged on. When everything is clear, you begin to lose interest (especially if it's a thriller). The ending could have been crisper. Also, I thought the involvement of snakes (throughout) was unnecessary, as it doesn't contribute to the story.
But, overall I enjoyed reading this book, and I would like to read the next book in the series.

Thank you Netgalley and Montlake for the chance to read an advance copy of Lie to her (Bree Taggert #6) by Melinda Leigh. This was a fast and easy book to read! Bree and Matt end up hunting for a serial killer who is targeting men who use a dating app. While this is the 6th book in the series, you can read it as a standalone. Plenty of plot twists, and some POV from the murderer.

Bree and Matt solve new murders with each book, but it’s their relationship that’s exciting. So much respect and patience between them as if it’s always been perfect. Leigh knows how to put just enough realistic possibilities to make these murders seem like they could happen anywhere. The dangers of putting ourselves out there in the real world versus the internet, definitely scary. We have a few chapters in the POV of the killer which was just enough clues for a twist. Always a well written story with real characters and heartfelt feelings. I’m thankful for my early copy and wrote this review voluntarily.

4.5⭐

Detective Bree Taggert is back, enjoying a quiet night in with her niece Kayla and nephew Luke, watching movies and eating popcorn.

When she is called to a very strange murder scene, where she encounters a victim who has been murdered and, wrapped in cling film and who has a room full of illegal and very venomous snakes some of whom are now missing.

But it soon becomes clear the illegal snakes aren't the reason this man is dead. And when another guy dies in the exact same circumstances Bree and her team including boyfriend Matt and second in command Todd know they have to act fast.

Yet, Bree soon learns the two men were using a dating app and thanks to information provided they now have the perfect suspect.

But is this suspect too perfect? And could their pursuit of them leave the killer to strike much closer to home?

And with big twists, edge of your seat moments, and plenty of suspense.

Lie To Her is a cracking read and addition to the Bree Taggert series.

And it's a series and story I would happily recommend to all.

Lie to Her was an absolute thrill. Starts out hot with a serial dater and liar being murdered. The investigation starts when another man is murdered in a similar fashion but this one is a serial cheater. Then things really heat up when Bree’s brother becomes a target. Super fascinating side plot with reptiles and venomous snakes. You can tell Melinda does her research, not only for such subjects as snakes but also in police procedural. Fantastic read! Thank you Melinda and NetGalley for the ARC
