Lie to Her is a suspenseful, gripping and thrilling read. This is my first book by Melinda Leigh, and I'm impressed by her ability to present an intriguing plot with beautiful characters. Bree and Matt grew on me with every passing page. While the chemistry between these two is unmissable, I love how they supported one another professionally and personally. The book has so many twists and turns, and while I donned my detective hat and had a vague inclination of the murderer, I could never imagine how Melinda would execute this. It's safe to say that I had a prolonged jaw-drop moment. I devoured this book in one sitting.

I look forward to more books in this series. A 5-star read!

Lie to Her by Melinda Leigh is the sixth entry in the Bree Taggert series. Ms Leigh seems to get better and better with each book. Fast-moving and page-turning suspenseful, the latest entry is filled with twists and turns and a few red herrings.. I kept thinking is this the last Bree Taggert and am hoping for more .

As someone who struggles to keep focus when reading the third person point of view, lie to her undeniably kept my interest from the start. The writing style was simple to get into and had an engaging effect. I mean the first lines were “there’s no line between love and hate, not even a fine one. it’s a mud puddle.” Instantly, I wanted to understand the narrator and what caused their indifference.

The emotions are written in such a way that it can be felt—the anger, the fear, the dread and the sadness. I appreciated the switch from first person narration to the third person in the different chapters, it helped put the story together nicely. In addition to that, the chapters were relatively short—but all the important details were still able to come forth without it being excessive or unbearable.

The reveal of the killer was a bit underwhelming though, since we never really got to know them—so it wasn’t as surprising or did it bring forth a “wow i wouldn’t have thought moment”. In other words, I was waiting for a climax but it never really came. Nevertheless, I still enjoyed reading this book.

Well-written, fast-paced, Lady sheriff meets serial killer. Believable plot with a smalltown CSI feel. It would be great to revisit the sheriff and setting.

This was a quick and enjoyable read. I enjoyed the characters and the multiple viewpoints going back and forth between the police and the killer. If you're looking for a quick whodunit / investigative thriller, this works!

Each book in this series gets better than the last. This book was a little different the rest, but still good. It had me second guessing who the bad guy was.
Fast pace book, quick read. Left me wanting more. Now to wait....

Another great book in the Bree Taggert series. I enjoyed this book as much as the previous books in the series. Plenty of action to keep me engrossed and a twist to who the culprit was as I thought I knew who it was but I was wrong! The relationship between Bree and Matt is so cute but professional when needed. I also really like the way Bree and Matt have taken on the family and they are one big happy unit. I can’t wait for the next instalment. I highly recommend this book and author.

This is a great addition to the Bree Taggert series! A couple of gruesome murders reveal a serial killer in the area. This puts Bree and her handsome criminal investigator Matt on the hunt to unravel the clues, decipher the truth and save the next victim one of which is her brother. This is a fast paced who-dun-it that puts twist after twist in this race against time. I loved that through it all Bree and Matt’s relationship just continues deepen.

I've really been enjoying this series and this book was no exception. The mystery is just so well crafted and I love all of the characters.

Effective 10-26-21: Melinda Leigh's Lie To Her, a story that will be published in 2023, is still being written at this time! Ms. Leigh told me in an email that "the manuscript won't even be finished for several more months". And yet there are 620+ readers on Goodreads who have rated the story and 2 who actually wrote a brief review! Sadly, the story is currently rated at 3.69. Unbelievable.

It goes without saying, I enjoy Bree Taggert and all the secondary characters necessary in her life. When an arc was finally released in July, 2022, I jumped on it. If I could mention one thing, if you considered reading this book, please ignore the premature ratings.

The story opened with a somewhat different premise than her earlier stories. I won't give it away, but it caused me to think outside of the box and I am glad I did. I guessed the 'baddie' soon upon introduction, but it did not ruin the suspense. Ms. Leigh wrote the plot with plenty of twists and when Bree, Matt and Todd were doing their jobs, I felt I was alongside of them.

I also loved reading more about Dana, Kayla, Luke, Adam, the dogs, horses and cats. Yes, you read it right: the dogs, horses and cats. They added a homey touch to the story. Like Dead Against Her, I read from cover to cover in less than 36 hours.

Keep Ms. Taggert's stories coming, Ms. Leigh!

Plot: Bree Taggert finds herself in another investigation involving more than one murder. This time, two men are dead. Both of whom have been on dating apps and are connected to this one woman. Despite the plausible motive of the woman, not everything seems to be as clear as it should be.

Overall, I thought this was a strong book. I never felt myself getting bored. Bree is an interesting character as always, and I loved seeing her interact with her family.

The section of the book that really captures her personality is:

Trooper: “[The killer] ain’t going to make it… I don’t know why she tried so hard to save a killer.”
Todd: “It has nothing to do with who he is l, and everything to do with who she is.”

I love how Bree is trying so hard to change the police community from the inside. From getting a women’s locker room to sharing pivot information with the public so they learn to trust her.

And even though this book is primarily about these murders, there are scenes of Bree doing perfectly normal things, such as buying horses and having scones with her loved ones. What I appreciate about this series is that there’s personality to all the characters and it doesn’t focus on the crimes (even though that’s interesting too).

Would I recommend this book? Yes.

Kept me guessing! Another Bree Taggert book that continues to have me hooked on this series and these characters! Picking up where the last installment left off, Bree and Matt’s relationship is made public, and it’s just more fuel to add to the fire of the town not liking Bree in her position. Thankfully they don’t get to dwell on that too long because there is another murder in town, this one focusing on the victim being suffocated with saran wrap beyond recognition. When another body is found in the same manner, Bree and Matt work to figure out who is behind it while also determining the motive, and once they do, they realize this is going to hit too close to home for Bree than either of them realized. I love that Melinda also gives us some insight from different characters, after what happened with Todd and his now budding relationship with Matt’s sister. I love that this kept me guessing until the very end, even misleading me, and adding twists and turns that I didn’t see coming. I can’t wait for the next book!

The best indication of how good a book is to me, is usually determined by how quickly I read it. And, oh my, I read this book extremely fast. Lie to Her is one of those books that you can't put down, mainly because you want to know what happens but also because you care about the characters and the story.

Characters are varied and the story is realistic. I would describe the pace as medium to fast, slowing down to provide enough background information but faster when needed.

I was surprised to hear this book is number 6 in the Sheriff Bree Taggert mystery series. It was my first book from Melinda Leigh and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Characters' backstories and their relationships are briefly explained, hence I didn't feel I was missing anything by starting with book number 6. And the main plot begins and ends with this book, so there are no major cliffhangers in the end.

How has this brilliant author eluded me until now? Lie to Her is the best, most engaging thriller I've read in ages. It's got a sheriff and deputy dream team, fabulous family backstory and full cast of delightful characters-including the adorable four legged variety. The plot was so cleverly constructed it had me fooled almost to the end(very unusual as I pride myself on my detection skills). It's very nicely paced with the gorgeous family vignettes acting as counterbalance to the dark murders . I'm off now to buy the rest of this series!

I love the Bree Taggert series and this was another welcoming addition. Serial killer on the loose killing men who use dating apps to use women - yesssss! I mean, wow! Melinda Leigh is constantly elevating her crime game and this time she has dedicated chapters from the POV of the killer. Great storytelling, well-written characters and the addition of Bree-Matt’s relationship and family situation makes the book even more comforting and warm in the midst of all the murders. I’m sold!

The victim's date had arrived for a romantic outdoor meal and found her date with his head wrapped in plastic. Bree and Matt discover the couple had met online through a dating app. Soon there is another dead body, and the link happens to be a dating app.
I do want to post about parts of the story which may be a spoiler. If the reader is squeamish about snakes, this book may not be a favorite. Oh My Gosh, I had the shivers for a few hours after I finished the book. That's all I will write about that twist to the story. Oh, poor Matt and Adam...you must read Lie to Her.
Adam's birthday "surprise" was a sweet ending chapter for the book!
