Unseelie is a fun, quick, easy read that is so enjoyable that it will keep the pages turning. The plot is pretty standard for YA fantasy but the writing is vibrant and that makes the read completely worth it. The setting is wonderful and the characters are very interesting. I love seeing some Neurodivergent portrayal in YA like this and it's done quite well. The whole novel is fast paced and whimsical with action and adventure galore and I can't wait to see what's coming next!

Sooooo slooowwww >.<

This book was ridiculously hard for me to stay interested in the story. However I did really enjoy the sisterly dynamic. It was refreshing to see a healthy relationship between the main character and sibling for once!

For everything else, wellll, this certainly sits on the lower levels of YA. It’s a lovely read for anyone looking for a clean fantasy book.

Based on her interest in changeling folklore and her own experiences with autism, Housman has crafted a delightful fantasy debut that will engage fans of Holly Black and Julie Kagawa. Iselia, known as "Seelie," and her twin sister have been on the run ever since the people in their town discovered she was a changeling. Her sister is an excellent thief, supporting them with stolen treasure, while Seelie is just trying to fit in with humans and find a way for them to reunite with their family. When a heist falls apart, they're sucked into a larger quest that has Seelie investigating fae secrets and her own unexplored magic. Housman provides readers with an exciting adventure story and deftly incorporates her own experiences into Seelie's identity.

lovely adventure story and I'm so happy to see the autistic main character representation in a YA fantasy! Unseelie is all about Seelie trying to learn her magic and the people around her better and it's enjoyable to know of her powers. I do think the story is considerably slow paced, as it failed to fully capture my attention throughout. I also think most of the characters involved were not completely developed to make them seem authentic enough.

Seelie is the changeling child faeries tried to swap for baby Isolde, but their mother claimed them both and raised them as twin sisters. Seelie’s magic and autism were both unwelcome in their hometown, so now the girls make their own way however they can. A heist gone wrong leaves them with a pair of unwilling accomplices, a lead on a treasure that could change all their lives, and alarming new volatility in Seelie’s powers. Focuses as much on Seelie’s emotional growth as their fast-paced quest, right up to the abrupt ending.

I really enjoy reading books about Fae, so I’m always on the lookout for new and good ones. Great storyline and characters that you can root for!

I requested this book on NetGalley based on a recommendation for fae-inspired fiction, as well as a striking cover, which seemed like it should have otherwise belonged on a graphic novel.

The story follows a young girl named Seelie, who looks just like her "twin," Isolde, but is actually a changeling left in the human world by the fae.

Seelie also happens to be autistic, a choice for the main character that I absolutely applaud. The story is told from her point of view, and her neurodivergence is mostly expressed through her struggle to connect with other people, and more importantly with her magic.

After a heist gone wrong, Seelie goes on the run with her sister, and then finds herself on an adventure with a couple of enemies-turned-allies as they hunt for a fabled fae treasure.

I found the adventure itself largely predictable - standard, if you will. The pacing was a bit too slow for my linking. I do believe that anyone of the target audience (YA) would enjoy this book much more, however.

The most appealing aspect of the story is Seelie's search for control over her magic and her own emotions. The action requires that she finds that control in order to protect herself and her sister. I can see many a YA reader responding to this storyline.

Lastly, there were a couple charming stand-outs in the worldbuilding that I simply must mention - a wagon/house-on-wheels with an actual personality (and free will), as well as a cat, that's not actually a cat, but a brownie!

Reading this book made me wish I had a sister! I love the relationship between Seelie and Isolde. There are good and bad times, but through it all there was such a strong bond of friendship and love I was honestly jealous. I love the world building and development of characters. The note from the author in the beginning changed my entire outlook and the way I approached the characters and their relationships. Everyone makes mistakes, but I loved being able to hear the situation through Seelie’s perspective as an autistic character written by a person with Autism. Raze and Olani have a good dynamic and I really loved to see them not only adapt to, but really understand Seelie. Overall I think this book has good character development.
The negative to me was the plot line. I was somewhat confused at certain points because events happen very abruptly and then sort of just end. It also seemed a little repetitive. The pacing of the story felt very drawn out in a predictable way but also very rushed (especially the ending)! This book does end with a cliffhanger and I look forward to the second book. I voluntarily reviewed this after receiving a free copy, thank you Netgalley.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This book gets a 3.5 star rating from me! I think that this book had the whimsy of Ella Enchanted (in some aspects it gave me the same feelings as that book) but it also read much like a fairytale. There are a few aspects of this book that I really liked, and it should be no surprise because it is one of my favorite things when books do it well.

Sisters. I think Housman does such an excellent job of writing sibling relationships in this book and I absolutely adore Isolde and Seelie and how they interact. I love that they seem like they are normal siblings who love each other but sometimes don't agree. And I love the story of how they became "twins".

The concepts of changlings in this book is generally the same, but there are also some exciting differences that make the book more unique and interesting. Add to that that Seelie is autistic and it gives the book some added punch.

One thing I didn't love in this book was the build up to the romantic relationships. I just wasn't feeling that. This might have been because I think the plot was more interesting. This is not a romance book, but does have romance in it.

I enjoyed the banter and the relationships between all the characters and I am so intrigued on how we are going to get more information about the Seelies.

This is not a standalone...to my surprise...so I will be looking forward to when the next book comes out!

Just not for me. Did not finish because I just couldn't mesh with the story. The main character is good but it just wasn't hooking me amd making me want to read

After finishing Unseelie, I find myself conflicted on what to rate it. On the one hand, there were parts of this book that were excellent. For example, Seelie was such a well written, fully fleshed out character. The autism representation was very well done and natural. In many books, representation can feel heavy handed but this book did not have that problem. Seelie felt more like a character who happened to be autistic instead of a character who was defined solely by their diagnosis. Additionally this book had a fantastic strong sibling bond between Seelie and her sister, which was great to read.

On the other hand, there were many parts of the book I felt could be better. For one, the pacing was incredibly off for most of the book. The first half felt like a snail crawl while the second half moved at break neck speed. Additionally, some parts (like the magic system and the side characters) felt like they were not as established as they should be.

Even with these issues, I would still recommend this book to anyone who is neurodivergent and wants to read well done representation in a clean, easy to read fantasy.

If you love magic, adventure, and characters that will tug on your heart strings then you need to read UNSEELIE. I loved every single part of this story and wanted to just jump in and join the characters on their adventure (and not just because of how cool Destiny is). Seelie has become a favorite of mine. I loved following her character arc and she had me laughing many times. The writing was beautiful with vivid world building and a fun story line. I did not want to put this story down and I am so excited for the sequel!!

Thank you to the publisher for the eARC!

I was so excited to read this book and I'm happy to say I quite enjoyed it.
This book follows Iselia aka Seelie who us basically an outcast to people because she's a changeling, half human and half faerie who embarks on a quest with her sister with the help of a maguc compass leading them to a certain treasure. What I loved most was how accurately Seelie's loneliness and that journey of hating herself to slowly but surely starting to love and accept herself. At the start I wasn't enjoying this book because I wasn't in the mood of reading it but after putting it down for a month I finished it in two days and really enjoyed it. I loved the characters and loved reading about an Autistic MC in a fantasy book which we don't read about often, so that was fun as well! Overall, I liked this book but not as much I should have which is because I picked it at the wrong time but it has many elements which I'm sure everyone would love.

3.5 stars!🌟

I want to start by saying I don't think there's anything wrong with this book. I hope it finds a home in its readers, though sadly not for me.

My main issue is the writing, everything starts off confusing: are we in the human world? Is it a fae world? How is it a fae world? How do they interact?

Questions about our characters, and their actions that I don't understand - you had issues for being a changeling but you told a random boy you were one? How does the Destiny work exactly?

Adding my questions to the boredom, this book isn't for me.

I was very excited for this book as an autistic person. I think the concept of writing autistic rep in the form of a changeling is so interesting and such a great choice, so I can only respect that. But unfortunately it didn't live up to its potential for me. I have a hard time with fantasy books sometimes, and this one didn't pull me in at all. Everything I read deleted itself from my brain immediately and I found the story hard to follow. Because of that, I decided to DNF this.

I loved this book. It was such a good read. So many twists and turns. I loved all the characters…. Even when they got under my skin a little. I am so hoping for more!

I'd been seeing high praise around the bookstagram community for this story, and man, it was highly merited! I The writing and storytelling flowed so well. The characters were both relatable and surprising. And the plot was a thing of its own which was highly refreshing and enjoyable. I look forward to more from this author.

I have done nothing but promote this book to others after I finished the review copy! It was all I had hoped it was going to be and it did not disappoint. In this world, changelings live with many similarities to those in our own world that have autism or are neurodivergent. However, I love that the author never outright says it, they just let their character be themselves. It is so freeing and I loved the main character changeling. This novel was a great deal of fun and fans of folklore/fae will enjoy. Both sisters are relatable and I wish I could visit their traveling wagon. It reminds me a lot of Parnassus on Wheels! Sisters, magic, fairies, hidden treasure, adventure, need I say more?
