This paranormal romance was the grumpy sunshine I never knew I needed! I love paranormal romances and I wouldn’t have come across this one if not for Netgalley. I am so glad I did and hope more people find this book because it was so good! We have Maisy a human who is a teacher and a struggling artist who’s life is very ordinary until she learns of a inheritance from a unknown uncle she never knew she had and this strange key he has gifted her with no instructions.

In comes three nephillim half angels Rhys, Zavier and Gideon who have “quit” protecting heaven and created their own task force to protect Earth from demons and other unsavoury creatures. Turns out the key Maisy received is actually a key to one of the two gates of Hell. Maisy is the new keeper of the key and sworn to make sure the prison stays locked down and no demons get out. Just one problem…. Maisy doesn’t believe in anything of the sorts.

Rhys job is to convince her of the world she never knew existed and help her become the Keeper during her two week transition period. I loved the banter between Rhys and Maisy. I loved the grumpy sunshine that Rhys brought. I loved that this book had just the right amount of spice.

I want more!! Highly recommend!

This was such a fun take on paranormal romance. I'm currently watching Supernatural so it was nice to have something to somewhat compare it to and it did not disappoint at all. I absolutely loved the fantasy aspects to it and I loved all of the lore that was brought into it. Rhys is amazing and definitely being added to my list of top book boyfriends for sure!

This sparked my interest to read more paranormal romance that have angels and demons in them, I'm typically a vampire girlie! I guess we could thank Supernatural for my peaked interest on angel romance so I'm so happy I gave Imperfect Angel a try because it blew me away.

This was a very entertaining and witty read! I was captivated right from the start and didn’t want this to end.

I liked the premise of this book more than the actual book. The writing felt choppy to me and the characters lacked depth, everything felt one dimensional. However, I do think it’s a fun read if you are looking for something light.

I enjoyed the story but did find it a bit predictable. I loved the friendship between Maisy and Liss. Loved that she was included throughout the whole story and not just swept under the rug after the first few scenes. It was refreshing to have a main female character who was ok with being vulnerable and emotional. She had no apologies for who she was and I absolutely loved that. I also enjoyed that they did not have a lot of back and forth with their feelings. It seems to be popular to be like I love you but we can’t be together,.. gets together… denies they can be together. So it was a refreshing change. The plot seemed to lack a little in depth but it did not take away from my enjoyment of the story. All in all a decent read that made me laugh.

Imperfect Angel is a paranormal romcom. That's the best way to describe it. It's light, it's cheerful, it features a cast of grumpy/sunshine characters, and while there is some "all hell's about to break loose" mythology and fantasy, it doesn't take itself too seriously.

The basic premise is that Maisy Norgate, an artist and a teacher, receives an inheritance from an uncle she never knew existed. Said inheritance ends up being an old, rusty key which seems to open nothing. At least as far as she can tell. So she gives it away, unbeknownst to her, to a demon. This is when Rhys, a Nephilim who is half human, half angel, appears on her doorstep and informs her that she's primed to become the next Keeper--as in the Gatekeeper of Hell--and it's his job to convince her that demons are real and make sure those gates remain closed.

In an effort to prevent the end of the world, the two reluctantly team up. However, what starts out as bickering and arguing over semantics soon develops into a love connection that neither one of them can bear to fight.

While I do think Rhys' scolding-to-flirting ratio could be a little schizophrenic at times, and that the pacing could have been better, I thought this was simple and cute. Silly, fantastical fun. Like I said before, it didn't take itself too seriously. It's the kind of story you can fall into without having to think too hard, with a dust of magic that radiates optimism as well as happy endings, and I don't know about you, but I think we could all use a dose of that sometimes.

A spicy, unique take on PNR romance!

Maisy is a teacher and artist who recently received an inheritance from an uncle that she knew nothing about. She soon learns that the inheritance isn’t money or riches, but an antiquated key to seemingly nothing. Rhys is a nephilim (half human/half angel) working with a team of two others to rid the world of demons (or whatever else they’re paid to do) when he crosses paths with Maisy. Neither is prepared for the complete 360 that both of their lives is about to take.Will her unending optimism and his eternal grumpiness keep them at odds or will they find a way to put their differences aside for the greater good?

I thoroughly enjoyed this book as it was different than the PNR romances I’ve read lately. In this world, all sorts of paranormal beings live alongside humans invisibly with some causing harm, some helping and others simply existing and I love that the author included all of these factions without muddling the story. The book did start out a little slow for me, but picked up quickly and I was lost in this world soon after. The grumpy/sunshine trope was embodied perfectly within Maisy and Rhys and their dynamic and banter was fun. The ending was by no means a cliffhanger, but was definitely left open ended, so I’m hoping for a sequel.

I freaking love this book and it's definitely gonna be a best selling book. It has a unique plot. Unique storyline and everything. I really love their journey.

Entangled Publishing can do no wrong when it comes to romance and Christi Barth is a great romance writer. There is an instant connection and attraction between Maisy and Rhys. Maisy receives a key from a deceased uncle and is unaware that it goes to the Gates of Hell. Rhys is Nephilim and is charged with making sure that key does not get used but he then finds out that the gorgeous red-head Maisy gave it away, unknowingly, to a demon. They are both trying to deny the attraction between them as they have to reluctantly work together to try and save the world from going to heck.

I went into the story thinking it would be like the rest of the paranormal romances I've read in the past and it's not. Imperfect Angel is an original story where Nephilim use modern technology to track demons. Christi Barth uses the grumpy male/sunshine female trope and writes it very well. Maisy is a bubble of sunshine and just a very happy person. I love her roommate and the Rhys's crew, they were a lot of fun to read about.

However, my negative with Imperfect Angel is the pacing. I had this issue with Barth's most recent release Hottie on Her Shelf. It took me a while to read and I did debate putting the book down for a while, which I ended up doing for a time but I'm glad I finished it.

Overall I enjoyed the steam and banter and Maisy's sunshine attitude. I recommend checking the book out if you're in the mood for something a little different in the paranormal romance genre.

This reading was really fun! I loved the characters, especially Maisy. I loved her personality, the sassines, the scars there pov on life.. it really made me enjoy much more because of it. The world building was soooo cool!! I love a good book about angels and demons and the whole ordeal. It makes mete travel and dream in a different way and question things. It's good to dream. The finale left a open spot for another book and I would actually enjoy reading about Z and Liss! That and to answer some questions that were left ( and I think on purpose). The writing was super simpler and easy. I really liked the pace too! Fast in some scenes and slower in others. Especially in the romance department. And talking about romance, the chemistry was amazing and off charts! Especially involving a singing Angel!! Loved their bickering, it really bought more fun to the book. That said the only thing that confused me sometimes was the transition to other chapter or even in the chapter itself, sometimes I couldn't understand the time spaces. Other than that I would really enjoyed a second book! It really surprised me.

This was definitely not the typical day paranormal romance that I’m used to reading in that it wasn’t as dark (? I’m not sure that’s the right word). This story was witty, entertaining, and I devoured it in about one day. It felt like a sci-fi rom-com was playing in my head and I couldn’t stop to do anything else until it finished. There was the perfect combination of romance, wit, and of course the drama.

Imperfect Angel by C. Barth, published by Entangled Publishing LLC, is a stand-alone pnr romance. It's the first book in the series and the introduction to Maisy and Rhys' world.
Maisy just inherited a token from her estranged uncle. Nothing had her prepared for the things that are about to happen. The tie-dye wearing, reggae hearing single is in for the surprise of her life.
Rhys is a nephilim and together with two others he hunts evil.
And then a new keeper shows up, a redheaded keeper who has no clue what she's in for.
This story had me right from the start , a great read, unputdownable, 4,5 stars.

Funny, just the prefect amount of quirky in this rom-com story. Definitely original I look forward to more from Christi Barth.

This was funny and swoony at the same time. If you love Darynda Jones's "Charley Davidson" series as I do, this will definitely be up you alley. It has the perfect blend of funny and romance!

Paranormal romance is not my typical genre, but this was fun. I enjoyed the romance sprinkled in with a larger mystery. The story does start slow though so if you’re not a usual fan of paranormal romance then it may take awhile to get into. That being said, I still had fun reading it!

If this is the imperfect version of an angel, please don't let anyone correct it. Lock me up with him and even hell would be heaven; Maisy honey, hide those keys.

Witty, refreshing, entertaining, a read to devour in one sitting. Angels, demons, witches and all the creatures in between, including the naive human who inherited and lost the key to hell, live the adventure everyone desire: be it saving the world from its imminent end, or the part when you meet the love of your life on the way.

Imperfect Angel is my first book by author Christi Barth. The story was very original and held my interest through out! I mean who doesn't want a half-angel to convince you that demons exist?!

I look forward to more from this author and would recommend this to friends and fellow readers.

TLDR : I would recommend this book to fans of Lucifer (2016-2021) in a heartbeat. It reminded me a lot of that show. The first half goes slow but then it picks up the pace and gets more and more interesting towards the end. Writing had some hiccups. There could have been more exploration of this new world the heroine is thrust into. But ultimately, I enjoyed it.

The ultimate throwback to my teenage years : the chosen zero plot. Oh, how I missed it. Eragon anyone ? Kung Fu Panda ? I went into such a deep nostalgic vortex while reading this, rewatching my favorites like W.I.T.C.H and Juniper Lee.

Maisy : “A man who never contacted me, not even after my parents were killed, gave no indication at any point that he knew or cared I existed, made a point of paying for the time of a lawyer to draft a will only to leave me a mystery key ?”

Not only that but the key comes with great responsibility and three gorgeous supernatural hunks. Unfortunately, this is not a reverse harem. Fortunately, Rhys is interesting enough to make up for that lapse in judgment. He’s cool as hell, albeit a bit (?) undercooked. But he’s got the ideal book boyfriend lines like ;

“Don’t ever scare me like that again.” [...] Nothing can happen to you. Do you hear me ?”

Careful there Rhys, you just might make me swoon ! Anyways, Imperfect Angel has likable characters, lovable sidekicks and an interesting plot that starts slow. The first half is mostly spent on mcs getting to know each other. Which is fine because it gets much better after a while. The pace quickens and the plot thickens and that’s where I started to truly enjoy the book. All of it leads to an open ended HEA. So maybe we might expect a second book. Also, there were very interesting side characters (the witch and Lilith for example). It would have been amazing to read more about them instead of Rhys’s lovesick ramblings.

So yes, that’s my constructive criticism : A little subtlety is just what the doctor ordered for this book. Maisy looks a certain way and Rhys immediately goes into his thoughts explaining in great detail how that look is very distinguished from all other humans. Maisy holds a finger up and again, I’m in Rhys’s head, learning how that finger holding sets her apart. Maisy does anything and Rhys is determinedly trying to convince me why she’s bold or worthy or whatever. I’m starting to think Maisy might be the main character. I’m starting to think Rhys might be a dumbass (very much in love, but still a dumbass).

Three days ago, all Maisy Norgate had was a stack of bills, about a gazillion jobs, and her sunny as hell outlook. Now, thanks to an uncle she never knew about, she's inherited an ornate skeleton key with absolutely no idea what it's for or why she has it. Which is exactly when a ridiculously handsome guy claiming to be an angel shows up at her door and all hell breaks loose.
Nephilim Rhys Boyce cannot believe that Maisy is the new Keeper of the Key. Why would anyone bequeath this warm, bubbly redhead the key to Hell? And to make matters worse, she's given the key to the first person who asked for it. A demon. Yep, Maisy is determined to make his job not to mention some seriously inconvenient temptation as hard as possible.
First a half angel with a very human chip on his shoulder must find a way to convince Maisy that angels and demons do exist. Then Rhys will have to break the really bad news that she might have accidentally ended the world.
I totally enjoyable read and I read in one sitting totally recommend this is definitely one book that will keep you captivated throughout
