Lizzie and Rake are quite the duo! I liked this more than Mazey’s first book. A two night stand turned into a surprise pregnancy - what’s not to love? Both Rake and Lizzie are unlikely parents to be but so lovable.

Mazey again writes a character struggling with a very real, every day challenge - ADHD. She nails how it affects Lizzie’s every waking moment. She makes it relatable, raw, and very real for the reader to understand how adhd affects one’s daily life, their view of themself, their confidence. I love Lizzie as a heroine as she crushes her life goals by not running from what makes her different. I love Rake’s character for how he loves her for her chaotic brain not in spite of it. He has his own relationship challenges that he has to get himself over.

I just loved seeing them work through their struggles. And omg the erotic bakery had me laughing out loud. Is this story probable I’m real life - who knows. But is the day to day in the life of an adhd person brought to life in a relatable and respectful way - absolutely!

Thank you netgalley and St. Martin’s Griffin for the audio ARC

Although the characters in this book didn't click with me, I cannot deny that this audiobook is well done. I found the audio to be a better fit for me than a visual read.

This book has me. It’s funny and hot, but it’s also passionate and endearing and full of heart. Mazey Eddings pulled me into Lizzie’s world, and I am absolutely here for her brand of chaos. She’s a potty-mouthed firebrand, neurodiverse and creator of succulent and artisanal treats.

MMC Rake, on the other hand, thrives on order, control, and the removal of emotions, after all, they only tend to lead to pain. He’s a tall, charming, sexy Australian man who is a bit emotionally awkward, but he also sees Lizzie in a way that no one around her really does.

This seemingly incongruous pair are thrown together in a whirlwind of events, making for a hilarious, deliciously spicy, and often chaotic story. Honestly, I was laughing out loud, swooning and shaking my head at all the mayhem and mishaps this poor girl finds herself in.

This story is also letter for self care. Throughout the story, Lizzie is in constant contention with her neurodiversity and the desire to fit into a neurotypical mold. And when she begins to see herself as Rake sees her, I celebrated. Though some might be triggered by the negative and harsh treatment of Lizzie by her family, others may find catharsis in Lizzie’s journey of self care and self love. Kudos to Mazey Eddings for her care and awareness around potential triggers at the beginning of the story. I truly appreciate the care she has for her readers.

It has all the things, and all the feels. I listened to the audiobook, and Summer Morton and Will Peters both bring this story to life.

First, the cover is so cute! I love the yellow and the sunshine feel! The characters in this one are also adorable! I loved their first attraction and heat - it was a little insta-love-ish but I didn't hate it. I haven't really had a lot of ADHD MC's so it warmed my heart that Lizzie was a lovely whirlwind. She loved all her quirks and ways she was unique and I loved that so much! Rake was a bit over the top but whatever, I loved how perfect he was. And their connection, silly moments and the author's great use of funny one-liners made it hard not to be just get completely sucked in and swoon.

Fair warning this book is steamy and, since this was the first story I have from this author, I was a bit surprised. Plus, I had this as an audio book - and I had to lower that volume waaaay down for those steamy scenes so the whole house wasn't listening!

Definitely, however, know what you're getting in to with this story. Trigger warnings should be checked out before starting [unexpected pregnancy, talk of abortion and derogatory language and generalization about ADHD (hide spoiler)] and I love that the author, even in the audio, gave the warnings right at the start.

A huge thank you to the author and publisher for providing an e-ARC via Netgalley. This does not affect my opinion regarding the book.

Story: 3.5 ⭐️
Steam: 4 🔥

Okay so this book was cute and an easy read. I did at one point consider not finishing it but i did end up following through. There was just a few things I struggled with.

On one hand I loved the adhd rep. A lot of Lizzie’s struggles were so relatable and I felt for her so many times. My only issue(and I feel like this might just be me since I didn’t see it in other reviews 😂 so take it with a grain of salt) was it kinda felt like the author looked up adhd symptoms and then made that Lizzie’s entire personality. I wish there had been more for her.

🚨 spoiler below 🚨

I’ve seen a lot of reviews saying that this book was shaming Rake’s ex for having an abortion and I just wanted to add that I did not get that impression. He shared that he was hurt by his ex getting an abortion and not telling him or allowing him to support her. He said he supported her decision but wanted to be there for her and support her through what she decided. He also found out at the same time that she cheated on him. I didn’t get the impression he was judging her for the abortion. It seemed like he was coming from a place of hurt and feeling left out of his roll in their relationship. He also admitted to his being absent from the relationship and took his share of the blame for that. 🤷🏻‍♀️ that was my perspective of the scene anyways.

I absolutely loved this book!

Lizzie is such a wonderful, relatable character. She is full of sunshine and lives her life to the fullest with no regrets. I love that she laughs loud and often. I also loved seeing the ADHD rep in this book. Lizzie's feelings and the way her brain works were described in a way that really lets Rake (as well as the reader) get to know and understand her. Rake is an amazing character too. I love that he never judged Lizzie and accepted her as she is.

Lizzie and Rake had amazing chemistry together and I loved watching their connection grow throughout the book as they got to know each other better. I found myself laughing out loud multiple times while listening to this book. Though there were a ton of funny moments, there were also serious moments where important conversations happened.

Another thing I loved in this book was the friend group. Everyone needs friends like these and I can't wait to read Indira's book next.

I listened to the audio version of this book and loved the narrators, Summer Morton and Will Peters. They both did a wonderful job of bringing these characters to life. Will absolutely nailed Rake's Australian accent, which just made the audio experience even better!

Lizzie Blake’s Best Mistakes follows our MCs Lizzie & Rake and their journey to falling for each other after a one night stand turns into a forever partnership.

I did highly enjoy this novel. It was quite fluffy and cheesy in parts, but i still enjoyed them. Both Lizzie and Rake battled a lot of darkness in their lives from how they viewed themselves in the world.

The representation of neurodiverse/adult ADHD was done so well. Lizzie’s character dealt with a lot of challenges due to her differences and the way that Rake aided her in realizing how important and special her brain was was one of my favorite lines in the entire novel.

Overall, a very good read.

Thank you Netgalley & the publisher for allowing me to read & review this ARC!

The absolute joy this book brought me is too big for words, it's easily one of my top five reads of the year. The writing is absurdly excellent and vivid. I completely adore Lizzie and all her chaotic bits and have never related to a fictional character more. I lost it every time Rake was so compassionate and understanding, and every time he truly saw her made me ache. How beautiful to find someone who loves you and all of your chaos when your whole life you've been told you're too much in every possible way. I love them so much, that I want to scoop them up, tuck them away, and keep them safe forever and ever.

Summer Morton and Will Peters brought Lizzie and Rake to life. I thought this book couldn't get any better, but they perfectly captured the chaos that is Lizzie and the calm that is Rake. It doesn't matter what format you consume this book in, just do it!

When a one-night stand between Lizzie and Rafe leads to a pregnancy, the two become a team to become co-parents. But as they spend more time together, the mutual attraction that led to a one-night stand in the first place grows, and they learn that sometimes mistakes can lead to the most beautiful outcomes.

This was my second book by Mazey Eddings this year (I’m impressed with how quickly she published two books!) and she is officially an auto-buy author. I adore her writing. I was nervous going in, because I don’t typically enjoy surprise baby, but this story was done so well!

As someone who has ADHD and is married to a person with ADHD, I deeply understood Lizzie’s struggles. And this book also gave me space to reflect on my own reactions and how I view ADHD. I loved the perspective of it being a positive and something to embrace, rather than focusing on the challenges and the messiness. A huge thank you to Mazey for writing this diagnosis in such a beautiful way.

Lizzie as a character is the star of this book. She was messy and real and so strong. She never gave up and she was so full of zest. I want to be her best friend. And it made my heart happy that she had a love interest who appreciated her quirks and her energy. Rafe might be one of the best book boyfriends ever. Yes, I said it. He somehow always knew what Lizzie needed and it was incredible. They had great chemistry and were perfect together.

I switched between ebook and audiobook and adored the narrators of the audio. In particular, I thought Summer Morton did a fabulous job narrating Lizzie’s point of view.

Thank you to SMP Romance and Macmillan Audio for the advance copies.

Lizzie Blake's Best Mistake made for a wonderfully engaging, charming audiobook. MacMillan audiobook thank you for such a wonderful audiobook, it was the kind of book that made me want to hit traffic so I could listen to it a bit more. I actually miss Lizzie and Rake now that the book is over, they were thoughtfully narrated and well written characters with wonderful self growth and a loving relationship.

1. Lizzie.. I loved the representation of ADHD in an adult woman, how she experienced it, learned to make it work for her, and how she learned to talk about it/understand herself more.
2. Rake, I often find male love interests less interesting in romance books, perhaps because of the writing. But Rake had depth, was allowed to be sensitive and creative, and to grow. I loved that he offered balance to Lizzie without "fixing" her.
3. The family dynamics... That was a tough part of Lizzie's story but so relatable to many readers, that sense of being the fourth point in a triangle that won't be a square, the puzzle piece that doesn't fit the picture. That part of the story was well written and added an interesting exploration of what it might mean for Lizzie to face parenthood and being a partner and caregiver..

Big adult themed pastry thumbs up from me! I hope maybe we get more of Lizzie and her world, it is worth returning to! Thank you to MacMillan and NetGalley for this unexpectedly joyful and fun audiobook.

Let me start out by saying instant love and accidental pregnancy are most definitely not among my favorite romcom tropes but this author made it work for this fun steamy romance novel.
I loved, absolutely and unconditionally loved, the ADHD representation - one of my kids has quite severe ADHD and so many of the struggles were highlighted in a poignant and honest but kind way. I was rooting for Lizzie throughout the book - and I was so happy when she was able to stand up to her toxic mother (whom I had a certain sympathy for even though she was horrible… don’t we all want our kids to fit in and have a more or less easy life). This book is getting all the accolades here so I am just adding my own - I loved it and if you have enjoyed romcoms with a little extra depths, Talia Hibbert‘s Brown Sister series for example I am sure you will love this one as well.

Okay, I LOVED this one. I thought it was so much better than A Brush with Love. I think it had what I wanted out of that one, but that it didn’t give me. And this GAVE. I loved the evolution of the story, how it wasn’t as instant as Harper and Dan’s, despite them hooking up right away, but the more natural progression of it. I loved how they both had issues that needed to be worked out and it didn’t feel forced. Everything felt very natural. And it fucked. OH, DID IT FUCK.

“That was Lizzie’s pattern—a new shiny high to chase, a bucket list item to check off, all pursued with fanatical zeal. And then the inevitable lull of monotony creeping in at the edges made her sprint toward the next thing to snag her attention.”

Lizzie has made endless mistakes. One mistake she has never made, though, is letting anyone get closer to her than a single hookup. But after losing another job due to her uncontrolled ADHD, she breaks her own rules and has a two-night stand that changes everything.

I. Loved. This. Book. Like loooooved it! I read Mazy Edding’s debut A Brush With Love and enjoyed it. But this one? Oh this one was sooo much better. I loved the ADHD representation, and in a female no less. I thought it was done so well and realistically. I loved the love story. I loved the family dynamics. Suffice it to say I loved everything about it!

The audio of this one was amazing! Read by dual narrators, I loved the accents and the emotion that each one brought to the characters. I laughed out loud multiple times and could even sense the sexual tension between to two main characters. Well done!

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher, St. Martin's Press for this audiobook ARC for review! All thoughts and opinions are my own.

5/5 stars!

As someone who has ADHD and has struggled for 25 out of my almost 31 years with it, I have never felt so seen by an FMC in my whole life. I may not be as loud and sunshiney as Lizzie, but it was incredible to see a character facing so many of the same problems I face in my daily life. Seeing Lizzie accurately describe and deal with things like executive disfunction, rejection sensitive dysphoria, and time "blindness" was something I didn't realize I truly needed to see in a popular romcom.

I know a lot of people don't like the "pregnancy trope", but honest to god this was so well done and was handled in such a positive refreshing light. Lizzie wasn't some woman who needed to be "saved" by a man or multiple men in her life because she was pregnant like in many books we've seen. Lizzie and Rake handled their situation as best as any two real life adults could, despite their personal circumstances. I absolute love how Rake grew to know Lizzie and genuinely worked to understand her, instead of treating her the way her *HORRIBLE* family treated Lizzie her whole life. There were quite a few tough topics brought up throughout the book, and I truly feel like Mazey handled them all really well through her character's own voices. I absolutely loved how Lizzie and Rake's love blossomed throughout the story, and Rake's parents are literal saints of sunshine!!

I had no idea that this was a "series" with each book focusing on one friend from a friend group, so I'm definitely going back to read A Brush With Love, and looking forward to the rest!

Lizzie Blake’s Best Mistake by Mazey Eddings. I listened to the audio version narrated by Summer Morton and Will Peters. This was just so good. If you like some spice with your romcoms, then this book will be for you. I didn’t realize when I started it, that this was a second book in a series. But I don’t find it made a difference. I will go back and read the first, since I enjoyed this one so much. I enjoyed both main characters and the journeys the take both together and individually. Such a cute and charming book.
Many thanks to NetGalley, St. Martin’s Griffin, and Macmillan Audio for this advanced audio copy in exchange for an honest review.

Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read Lizzie Blake’s Best Mistake.
I heard really great reviews on this book and am glad I had the opportunity to enjoy it.
I fell in love with Lizzie’s personality. Mazey Eddings does a really great job of giving the reader opportunities to connect, and sympathize with many aspects of Lizzie’s life, from her quest to find love, and sorting out a job she loves, to friendships that keep her grounded and family who may not always understand her life. I laughed at several points in the book. The thing I probably enjoyed most is the feeling that you connect with a character and really want their life to work out for their best. This is a light and easy read and the narrator added significant value in the telling of this story. I can’t wait to read other books by this author.

With characteristics reminiscent of Hazel from Josh and Hazel’s Guide to Not Dating, Lizzie Blake is a loveable, chaotic character dealing with ADHD and its effects on her life and relationships.

With poignant and heartbreaking moments balanced with hilarity and silliness, I enjoyed Lizzie and Rake’s journey from one-night stand to roommates to parents.

Lizzie is a baker in Philadelphia who can’t seem to hold a job because of her inattentiveness and time blindness. She’s scattered and unreliable, but she’s also fiercely devoted to her friends.

Her family isn’t close because she isn’t a golden child like her brother, and her parents only see her differences as a negative to their social standing. Though may have disadvantages in a neurotypical world, Lizzie is trying her best to make a living while also having fun.

Rake is in town for business and is immediately taken by Lizzie and her horrible experience with a blind date. One thing leads to another, and he and Lizzie have a couple of hot and steamy nights together.

Not expecting to see her again, he upends his life in Australia after a phone call that immediately changes his priorities.

Lizzie and Rake’s pact to cohabitate while waiting for their baby’s arrival and abstaining from a physical relationship ratchets up the sexual tension to about an 11 for much of the story. While they may not be physical, they are still learning about one another and forming a deeper relationship through their interactions.

Eddings takes great care with Lizzie’s mental well-being throughout the book, which is something I greatly appreciate.

There are points in the story where my second-hand cringe was so strong for Lizzie and the situations she would find herself in. My heart went out to her several times because I can relate to and understand her internal struggles, and I appreciate her for the strong heroine that she is.

Rake is one of the sweetest book boyfriends around. Rake appreciates her curiosity and enjoys seeing the world through Lizzie’s eyes. His patience and effort to understand her never-quiet mind are genuinely some of his best qualities.

I think fans of A Brush with Love will appreciate the next book in the series, and I know that I am looking forward to Indira’s story in The Plus One.

Note: I read this as both an ebook and listened to an audio copy. The narration of the audiobook is well done, as are the accents of the characters. If you're an audiobook listener, you'll love the narration of this one!

First of all I think this had good mental health rep. It was a super cute, super quick read. This does have accidental pregnancy tropeX which I usually hate but I liked it actually. I thought this book was a super cute romcom! Lizzie
Another trope is one-night stand to more. It was a little far
