An visiting-town romance for him, some ADHD for her, an accidental pregnancy and unexpected romance for them both. This is a quick read with a story that draws you in so you don't want to put it down.

Lots of family drama, toxic parents, discussion of abortion, dealing with ableism Lots of stuff we don't talk about discussed front and center!

Didn't read the author's first book, but going back to put it on my TBR!

This was a really cute story! I liked that it showed the realities of ADHD and loving someone FOR who they are instead of DESPITE who they are! I can’t wait to go back and read Mazye’s other book soon! The narrators were great with the voices/accents!

This is hands down one of the best audiobooks I have had the pleasure of listening to! This rom-com is a perfect balance of funny, sad, and sweet and had me hooked within the first minute of listening based on Lizzie's (MC) colorfully comic vocabulary.
The story addresses real, relevant issues for people who aren't neurotypical. Many aspects of the daily challenges that Lizzie faces throughout the book really resonated with me, but a quote that Lizzie recalled from her childhood therapist was a profound message I needed to hear "Your brain is built different, and that's beautiful, never a burden".
Lizzie and her meet-cute with Australian hottie Rake and their ensuing adventure is a great read, with fantastic narration, that I highly recommend for anyone looking for a good cry and a giggle!

Lizzie Blake intends just a single one night stand with Rake. Neither of them wants an emotional attachment or relationship, and the timing is perfect since he is only on a short work trip from Australia. But right from the beginning, they clearly have a deeper connection.

I loved Lizzie. She has ADHD, and it is explained so beautifully. And Rake's appreciation for her brain adds such depth to the story. There's a lot of chemistry and steam throughout the book.

I also really enjoyed the funny jokes and nods to loving romance novels, especially historical bodice rippers. This is a fun rom-com with lots of amusing moments. Many are based on a second-hand embarrassment for Lizzie. But they are done in a lovely way that doesn't feel shameful or demeaning.

I enjoyed the great short chapters, and the alternating perspectives throughout. But the novel felt like it ended too quickly. I was so surprised when it was over, and I found myself at the epilogue. I would have liked to see a few more issues resolved or at least further explored.

The narration was excellent. I especially enjoyed Will Peters' amazing Australian accent. He and Summer Morton switched parts seamlessly.

Thank you to Macmillan Audio and NetGalley for the advanced copy. These opinions are my own.

I read this book first, loved it so much I wanted to try the audio (not gonna lie, to hear the Australian accent). I absolutely loved Rake & Lizzie and getting to hear them in the audiobook was a treat. I think the narrators did great, and that this book is just all around a 5 star for me.

Flawed-but-endearing heroine meets bruised-but-wholesome good guy, in this fun and fast-flowing novel from Mazey Eddings. I'll admit that sometimes I struggle with romcoms, where immature characters and juvenile miscommunications abound, but I was pleasantly surprised to find little of that in Lizzie Blake's Best Mistake. Instead, it's just fun, emotionally complex, and definitely has plenty of spice!

Main character Lizzie is used to not being taken seriously, thanks to a series of unfortunate mistakes and oversights that go hand in hand with her ADHD. So when her impulsive two-night-stand with Rake, a businessman in town from Australia on business, results in a pregnancy. it's no wonder that her friends and family expect it to end in disaster, in one way or another. When Rake decides he wants to be a part of the baby's life, though, it's the start of a new romance and Lizzie's best mistake ever.

As someone who is touched by ADHD in my own family, I appreciated the accuracy of how well ADHD is represented in this book (although, I think to those not familiar with it, the use of the terminology may come off a little heavy-handed and technical at times). The psychological impact of ADHD on self-esteem is under-represented in pop culture, and I give kudos to both Eddings and MacMillan Publishing for putting it front and center. This was the first book of Eddings that I've read and I'm excited to dig up some of her past works to read more.

Thank you to NetGalley and MacMillan Audio for giving me the opportunity to preview this fun and flirty rom-com in exchange for an honest review.

This book is a love letter to those with ADHD. This book has meant the absolute world to me after just coming to the conclusion that I have ADHD this year and getting diagnosed at 24 years old. I felt so seen in this books. Thank you Mazey, truly, for writing this story into the world. I loved Lizzie, in a some ways we are so different but in a lot of ways we are the same. I really felt that I am a complete mixture of Lizzie and Harper from A Brush with Love. It's amazing to see myself in these books. I loved seeing through Lizzie's eyes and feeling what she felt. Listening to this love story between her and Rake, it was beautiful! The narrators are perfect. The way Rake loves Lizzie is how I hoped I can be loved someday. This is definitely one of my favorite books ever now and I can't wait to read whatever Mazey Eddings writes next! Thank you to Mazey and her publishers for this Netgalley ARC in exchange for my honest review!

This book was hilariously cute! I loved Rake and Lizzie and each of their own sorry of overcoming their pasts. I wish we had gotten to know Rake more as a character, it was definitely mostly focused on Lizzie. I loved Lizzie and how she became confident in herself, owning her ADHD instead of apologizing for it. Overall a good read!

Thanks Netgalley for the free ARC!

This is the first Mazey Eddings book I have read and I was not disappointed! I listened to the audiobook version and the narrators did a great job with the story. The story was very steamy from the start, with language that some may not appreciate, but it was fine for me. Once I started the book I didn't want to put it down and finished it quickly. As the parent of a now adult son with ADHD I could relate to many of the issues Lizzie deals with, and feel it was very well represented. I love that the book explains how the brain of someone with ADHD works, as it can be difficult as someone on the outside to understand. This is the first pregnancy trope I have read but I found it enjoyable. The romance between Lizzie and Rake progressed with a very quick pace, but was not unbelievable. I especially liked the humor between Lizzie and Rake, which added to the story and kept me listening for more! I will definitely be looking for more books by Eddings!

This is a very well done story that accurately describes a woman with ADHD, almost to painful.extent. the story is unexpected, unique, Anna we'll written. It's gritty, and agnsty, and heart warning at times.

CW: abortion, unexpected pregnancy, ADHD, toxic family dynamic, blatant sexual content

Tropes: strangers to lovers, unexpected pregnancy, one-bed sharing

I couldn’t put this book down once I started. Definitely going to read more of Mazey Eddings’ books in the future!

The author’s writing captivated me and I finished this in literally two sittings. I listened to the audiobook of this and the narrators had me engrossed in Lizzie and Rake’s life. I found myself in Lizzie, the FMC who had ADHD. It took me a while to get over the MMC Rake though – like, why the name Rake?!

The novel put Rake and Lizzie meeting at a bar that led to a two-night stand that resulted in Lizzie unexpectedly being pregnant. She lets him know and he decides to move from Australia in an effort to co-parent. The result is something that is far from believable, but the ups and downs in this mess of a story couldn’t keep me away. Especially not when they inevitably had to share a bed after Rake demolished Lizzie’s. Or even when Lizzie walked in on Rake clearly masturbating to her.

Both MCs are flawed, but go through growth and reflection. The ADHD rep in this book made me so happy – I loved that Rake was patient and eager to learn more about Lizzie’s experiences. It was so gratifying when Lizzie experienced personal growth and cut off her toxic family.

The one thing, like many reviewers have mentioned, is the almost villainization of abortion. The positioning of the one who chose abortion vs Lizzie who chose to continue the pregnancy unsettled me and something I could have done without.

Have you ever picked up a book with a sweet illustrated cover and expected a sweet, heartfelt romance but instead opened the pages to one of the filthiest books you’ve ever read? Yeah, that’s this book. (And It Happened One Summer…)

Seriously. This book has a lot more steam than I generally care for in books. The first 20 percent of the book was almost no plot and only steam.

And for a book that I *almost* DNF because of the amount of steam, I’m glad I hung on. Because the sweet story came. This book reached inside and grabbed a hold of my heart and it won’t ever let go.

Lizzie comes across as a mess. But in reality, she lives with adult ADHD which adds to her impulsivity. When she has a two-night-stand with the Australian stranger, Rake, and ends up pregnant, Rake transfers his job so he can be there for her and the baby. What can go wrong?!

One thing Mazey Eddings does fantastically is highlight different mental disabilities. I learned so much and appreciated the ADHD representation. Seriously, it’s like a lightbulb went off inside of me, and this book touched my soul. And of course there’s Rake, who is an Australian steam…no, dream..boat.

If you’re a fan of smut and the accidental pregnancy trope, or heartwarming books that highlight misunderstood adults then pick this one up.

This booked really hooked me in from the beginning and I didn't want to put it down even after I finished it.

Lizzie Blake may be a chaotic tornado, but there is no denying that she has a huge heart and fiercely loves her inner circle. Lizzie can't seem to stay on track in life. She's constantly messing up, creating catastrophes, and getting fired from her latest bakery job. She has had ADHD all her life, but she has not been able to find a way to manage and control it, even though she's tried.

After a date stands her up, she finds herself meeting a hot Australian stranger in town for the next couple of nights. Her normal one night stand gets an extension for Rake. Their chemistry is undeniable and their moments out of the sheets have them connecting with one another while hitting up the city.

When the pair find themselves with a literal bun in the oven, Lizzie and Rake try to figure out a way to navigate as co-parents. This book shows the struggles for soon to be mom trying to figure things out and find a way to manage her ADHD. It was really lovely to see how Lizzie worked through her problems and started to build a life she was proud of.

Rake is a true gem and so gone for Lizzie. He says the most beautiful things to her that are literal poetry. I loved how he didn't see Lizzie's ADHD as a burden. He loves everything about her and how her brain works.

This story also focused on what family really is to a person. Sometimes the family you choose means more than the family you are bound to by blood. Mazey really showed how important it is to put yourself first even it means breaking up with a family member because they are toxic.

It was wonderful to see how Lizzie's mental health and attitude toward herself changed throughout the book. Lizzie and Rake both had to learn how to open up and let someone in. They grew so much during the development of their relationship.

The audio was really great, I wished that the narrator voicing Rake used his Australian accent the entire time he read Rake's POV because it would have made it even more authentic. Plus it's my favorite accent!

I loved this book and I can't wait for the next in this friend group series!

4.5 stars for Lizzie Blake! This is a cute accidental pregnancy romance that is such a pleasant delight.

Synopsis: Lizzie, who has ADHD, has profound organizational and executive functioning struggles that result in a life of messiness, chaos, and disorganization. She was raised by a mother who never understood that her brain was just wired differently, and as a result, internalized that her ADHD was something to be ashamed of. When she gets pregnant following a one-night-stand with Rake, a hot Australian, Lizzie chalks this up to yet another mistake resulting from her impulsivity. Rake, trying to do right by Lizzie, suggests that they co-parent, which results in wonderful sweet (and a little steamy) forced proximity storyline.

Review: As someone who works with students with ADHD on a daily basis, I found Eddings' portrayal of ADHD to be really accurate. She dives into the internal experience (both physically and emotionally), as well as how it presents externally to others. Lizzie's mother was extremely frustrating, yet, unfortunately, aligns with many parents who do not understand their children with ADHD. This book is in line with Roni Loren's Yes & I Love You and Helen Hoang's The Kiss Quotient series in terms of representation of mental health/neurodiversity in romance, and fans of those series should absolutely check this out. I did not care for A Brush With Love, but this was definitely a winner and can be read as a standalone. I really enjoyed the audio as well!

Lizzie Blake’s Best Mistake is a quirky, chaotic, and joyful story. Lizzie is a creative baker who struggles to manage how ADHD impacts her life. While she is routinely labeled as “lazy,” Lizzie simply has a difficult time taking her meds and staying on time. When Lizzie meets a sexy Australian named Rake, they have a fantastic time together. Two weeks later, Lizzie takes a pregnancy test after intense nausea. Lizzie must choose how she wants to proceed and try to track down Rake. Can someone who’s always been told she can’t do anything right handle this latest twist?

I really enjoyed Mazey Eddings’ writing, she has a very funny and vivid way of setting the scenes. However, I learned that the “accidental pregnancy” trope is not really one I enjoy. This would have stressed me out so much in real life, that I struggled to relax. I did try to stay open to it though and I think Mazey definitely pulled it off. I loved the ADHD rep and how Lizzie deals with toxic family members who do not understand or accept neurodivergence. Lizzie is filled with sunshine and I loved seeing her grow in confidence and agency. I also appreciated all the little nods to romance authors throughout the books!

I listened to the audiobook and enjoyed the audiobook narrators. They did a great job of bringing Rake and Lizzie to life. One thing I noticed was that the narrator for Rake switched into an American English accent when Rake was thinking in his head and did an Australian accent when he was saying dialogue aloud. I would have been happy if he just stuck to the Australian accent the whole time, though I’m sure this was a conscious creative choice and it still worked fine.

If you are a fan of fast-paced romance, this one is for you. Lizzie Blake’s Best Mistake jumps straight into its trope with an unexpected pregnancy. I enjoyed this book even though the story is missing the slow-burn that usually draws me into contemporary romances. I can see why the main character may annoy some readers with her ADHD tendencies but Mazey Eddings does a fantastic job of portraying this condition with her words. The witty dialogue and sweet romance kept me going. The narrators were also spot on - great job.

This book is going to be in my top books of the year. I was laughing throughout the entire thing, I related soooo much to Lizzie, and Rake is my new book boyfriend. Rake is seriously the sweetest guy, I’d like one of him IRL, please and thank you.

The ADHD rep was really eye-opening. I’ve suspected for a bit that I may have ADHD (after having a daughter with autism and ADHD) or something similar stemming from my OCD and Anxiety, and there were so many times in this book that I wanted hug Lizzie. I understood the executive dysfunction she experienced and how frustrating it is to always be running late and feeling like you’re forgetting everything.

It was refreshing to read a story about a good guy for once, too. Rake was such an understanding and kind character. I love how he accepted Lizzie for who she was and didn’t mind accommodating her and helping her figure out ways to accommodate herself.

The book wasn’t all serious, though! Lizzie was one of the most hilarious characters I’ve ever read. I wanted her to be my best friend lol! Rake was much more serious and took her quips in stride.

This book is the perfect exhample on how - if well written - even a trope you don’t like, can be enjoyable. Not a fan of the pregnancy trope BUT the characters were so amazing, and the prose so witty and fast paced, that this book became very enjoyable!

If you are a fan of:

✅ The pregnancy trope
✅ Fast Paced Romance
✅ Spice
✅ Opposite Attract
✅ Happy Endings

This book is definitely for you.

The thing I liked the most was that for the first time in my reading career, the main character had diagnosed ADHD and I loved it. We need more books like this.

I liked the interaction between all characters and how the relationship between the main couple evolved. I could have lived without the pregnancy trope BUT there was the base for the story!

This sweet romance touches very important themes among them: ADHD, pregnancy, abortion and toxic family dynamics and - imho - the author did a great job incorporating them into the story, keeping it all nice and fluffy but still touching some difficult topics.

The audio version of the book was great. I always love multiple narrators and they did a fantastic job with the accents!

Lizzie had me like “mmm hmm, YASS QUEEN! Honneeeyy!” during the sex scenes. She’s straight with no chaser. As a Woman with clinically diagnosed ADHD, I totally related to her behaviors/forgetfulness. Both her and Rake are “beautifully broken “and I love how they were able to pull each other out of there emotional issues. This book was a great read, and I will definitely be reading more from this author. Thanks to NetGalley for allowing me to read and review this book!
