YAII. THIS BOOK. I literally teared up at the
dedication, and then basically the entire last 20%. And don't even get me started on the acknowledgments. As a fellow ADHDer, this book honestly meant more than I think I can ever express. I am very different from Lizzie in a lot of ways. But the way she felt about her brain. The way she felt like she was too much, unlovable. A lot of her quirks and habits. These were all things that felt like a reflection of my own life. I ended up highlighting like half of the book. Not only is this story sexy, and sweet, and HILARIOUS. It's a love letter to every ADHD person who has felt like they were too much and yet not enough at the same time. Who have felt like they're a failure and don't deserve love. And
even more generally, just any neurodiverse person who has felt this way (even if it wasn't ADHD). This book is my newest hyper fixation/obsession and I won't be getting over it anytime soon

Lizzie Blake's Best Mistake is one of my FAVORITE books of the year! The audiobook truly does justice to Lizzie & Rake's steamy romance and the LOL comedy moments. I will include my review of the book below, but I'm so happy that audiobook lovers will get to enjoy this gem of a story by Mazey Eddings!

Book Review:
It’s been a full 24 hours since I finished this book and I’m still buzzing and doing the happy dance. A steamy romantic comedy that continues in the world created by A Brush With Love, Lizzie Blake’s Best Mistake is a delicious treat that you won’t be able to put down. Lizzie lives by her own rules and has made a life for herself – following her heart, doing what feels right to her, and not settling down or settling for anyone. While being ghosted at a bar, she runs into Australian dream boat Rake, who’s only in town for a few days and is totally wooed by Lizzie’s go-get-’em attitude. They’re both looking for fun and a one (turns to two) night stand is just what these two unattached single folks are looking for.

And then… whoospies. Lizzie tells Rake that she’s expecting the unexpected, and they both decide to co-parent together, with Rake uprooting his life from Sydney to move with Lizzie. Hilarity ensues with the forced proximity, only one bed, *suggestive* baked goods, flimsy plans to stay platonic… the TENSION. I was legitimately cackling throughout the entire book.

I can safely say that Mazey Edding’s books are both in my top 10 this year. She writes characters and stories that are relatable and aspirational, who live with mental illness and/or neurodiversity (Lizzie Blake lives with ADHD in this book), and are just so freaking good. I read this book in one day (I wish I would have slowed down and savored it… guess I’ll have to re-read!).

I liked this book. I liked that the banter between Lizzie and Rake. I enjoyed Lizzie's group of friends and that they accept each other, flaws and all.

I also liked that Lizzie is wild and free, and stops trying to please her awful parents.

I think it's great too that the book showed that 2 people can work together, and even fall in love, regardless of how they process things on a daily basis.

Otherwise, I found this book to just be "ok". It wasnt the best book I ever read, but I enjoyed it all the same, and would recommend it.

I loved this book so much and here’s why.
The MC has ADHD, and the book not only showcases how things can be challenging but also where and how Lizzie excels. That last part is so important as it’s such a challenge to be seen and labeled as ‘lazy’. As a mom and wife to individuals with ADHD, I found myself shaking my head in agreement with so many things. This positive representation will allow so many to feel seen, which is so exciting.

The pregnancy was done so freaking well. Lizzie dealt with it head-on…it wasn’t a trope in this story but rather a pivotal part of the storyline.

The steam - is not for the shy! If that makes you uncomfortable, then skip it, it’s ok. I personally love how this book was written, from beginning to end.

I read easily without having previously read book 1 first…now in typical fashion, I’ll backtrack and read that.

As a mom of 3 kids, two that have ADHD this book hit so many notes for me. The description of Lizzie's inability to do simple things, be overwhelmed by life, and become distracted by anything is so familiar. I cried as Lizzie described how she always felt broken, how her self esteem plummeted due to not being able to behave in a neurotypical fashion. Then along comes Rake who loves Lizzie's zest for life, her often rambling stories that seem not connected at all but actually do connect eventually.

Rake uproots his life in Australia when he learns Lizzie is pregnant, although he is leery of relationships he hasn't been able to stop thinking about the quirky redhead who took him outside his comfort zone and showed him how to laugh and live.

This book is all about loving someone as they are, you may not fully understand them but helping them to discover what inspires them and encouraging them is so important.

I was so happy to encounter who isn't neurotypical that in a romcom I'm sure so many people will see themselves in this quirky beautiful character.

Lizzie is written as the hot mess we all love. You can’t help but adore her quirkiness throughout the book. This book has a surprise baby trope, one I know many don’t enjoy. Maybe I haven’t read enough of that trope because it didn’t deter me in the slightest. Lizzie meets hot hunk Aussie Rake and they spend the weekend he’s working in the States doing… ya know 🔥 after Lizzie finds out she’s pregnant, Rake transfers to the States and they work on their friendship during the impending arrival of the bebè.
Maybe the surprise pregnancy trope didn’t bother me as much because while it was there, this book mostly focused on Rake and Lizzie. On Lizzie realizing she doesn’t need to change who she is to fit into society and to appease her parents, she just needs to find where she’s accepted.
I listened to probably 75% of the audio and then the last 25% I read. Highly recommend the audio to hear Rake’s Aussie accent. Although I have to admit, the narrator only did his accent when Rake was talking, otherwise he spoke in an American accent. I could not get the episode of TrueBlood out of my mind where Sookie discovers who the killer is because she listens to his thoughts and realizes the voice inside his head doesn’t have the same accent he speaks with 😅
Overall, this was my favorite read of August. I loved it. I will read whatever Mazey decides to write. I cannot wait for future books with this friend group, it’s an absolute joy to read.

This story was so fun! I laughed out loud multiple times, I swooned hard over Rake and I cheered even harder for Lizzie. I absolutely loved the sex positive and ADHD representations. I enjoyed the dual POV. The ending was a bit bland compared to the rest of the book but I loved it regardless. The narration of the audiobook was excellent. Highly recommend!!

I honestly don’t know where to start with this review other than to say this is more than a five star read for me.

What I love about Mazey Eddings’s writing is the way she can be super versatile. She can give us spicy, romantic, and heart wrenching within the course of a few hundred pages. That paired with the neurodiverse representation she gives us is just incredible.

I would also love to say this audiobook was so amazing. As someone who can struggle with paying attention to audiobooks, I loved that this one kept my attention. It was truly an amazing narration and I loved the use of two narrators for the different POVS.

When it came to this book I enjoyed every moment of it. I fell in love with Lizzie in A Brush With Love and after reading her story I realized it was probably because I felt connected to her character. A lot of struggles she faces are what I have been dealing with my entire life, and this book and character made me realize I’m not alone in those struggles. But Lizzie is also a character who just brings me joy. She’s sassy, spunky, and confident in her sexuality (a favorite quality in my female MCs). She also faced her challenges and all I wanted to do was protect her, but she protected herself when needed.

Also Rake is an amazing love interest overall, even if he had some learning to do. I’m telling you, you will fall in love with him, get angry with him, and fall all over again.

Oh and I loved Eddings infusing the story with nods to romance books. And as a romance reader I fangirled every time one of these popped up. Plus she chose some of my favorite tropes;forced proximity, one bed, pregnancy. So I was just smitten with this story almost immediately.

I just loved this book more than I can accurately express with words. I finally found a character who I connected with on so many levels. In fact this book made me feel seen and I can not stop tearing up every time I think about it. So thank you Mazey and ST. Martins press for bringing this book into my life.

I thoroughly enjoyed Mazey Eddings’ “A Brush With Love”, so I just had to read her follow up, and I’m so glad I did. “Lizzie Blake’s Best Mistake” is a heartfelt story of two people who were supposed to never see each other again only to end up never stop thinking about each other.

This was a romcom that pulled at my heart strings and this is coming from someone who rarely reads surprise pregnancy storylines. However, Mazey’s writing and the voices of Summer Morton and Will Peters were able to keep me hooked. I was swept away at how the MCs, though very opposite at first, developed and grew and kept their sexual chemistry throughout the book. Rake turned out to be the perfect one-night-stand-turned-dad: he’s gentle, thoughtful, protective, and just damn sexy y’all. Lizzie may have verbal vomit all the time (I can totally relate!), but she has a fiery spirit that lights Rake up; they are perfect for each other. I appreciated the ADHD representation through Lizzie as well. I was able to get a glimpse through Lizzie’s eyes how challenging it can be. I loved how Rake felt protective of her, as well as showing acceptance and unconditional love.

As an audiobook, the story was fast-paced and the narrators captured the thoughts and emotions of Rake and Lizzie beautifully. Summer Morton and Will Peters not only do a a great job as the MCs, but also as the side characters as well.

I laughed, I sighed. I swooned. I sweat during the epic steamy scenes. I gained a new understanding of people I love and how their minds work. I missed Philly (where we lived for a few years). I felt ALL THE FEELS.

LIZZIE BLAKE'S BEST MISTAKE had everything! A female lead I adored, laughed with, related to. A male lead who is real and sweet and sexy.

The truly beautiful and amazing thing about LIZZIE BLAKE'S BEST MISTAKE is that the author never pushes this story into the easy-answers trap. Life is complicated and complex and wonderful. Lizzie and Rafe are stumbling through a tricky situation. They het some parts disastrously wrong while doing other things correctly! I loved the honest, truthful, and realistic look at finding love while just trying to keep yourself together.

Lizzie is a new favorite character of mine! She's hilarious and passionate and finding her way. And Rafe is so swoony and sweet. These two characters are printed on my heart.

LIZZIE BLAKE'S BEST MISTAKE has wonderful ADHD representation and I loved getting a better understanding of the often-misunderstood and mislabeled challenges that come with that. Bravo!

Surprise Pregnancy is one of my least favorite tropes i romance, but LIZZIE BLAKE'S BEST MISTAKE won me over in every way.

I listened to the audio version of this book and really liked it! The Australian accents were good and the narrators were enjoyable to listen to.

Extremely cute. I felt the ending was rushed, but that could just be a testament to wanting more of the novel.

In her second book release, author Mazey Eddings packs a sensual and fun- yet emotional! - punch with the story of Lizzie the well-traveled, creative baker and Rake, a swoonworthy Australian businessman. This couple is adorably brought together oh-so-briefly, yet the ramifications of their time together is anything but brief. The result has Lizzie and Rake embarking on a long-term roommate/friendship as well as learning to navigate the unexpected co=parenting waters. This beautifully written story caused me to experience a kaleidoscope of emotions and I was rooting for Lizzie and Rake the whole time! Mazey Eddings knows how to pull the heartstrings and this splendid read is one of the best I've read this year. The audiobook is a fantastic performance by Summer Morton and Will Peters, who both brought the story to life with expert execution. I highly recommend this narration.

First and foremost, let me tell all the potential readers that this is a surprise pregnancy story. Some find this a deal breaker, but I implore you to give this modern take on the trope a chance. Eddings has encapsulated this trope in such a fresh and modern way, I can’t think of a better way to tell this type of story.

With that cat out of the bag, Lizzie Blake’s Best Mistake continues the friendship saga with he characters we met in A Brush with Love about 2 years into the future. Lizzie Blake is still a haphazard victim of her ADHD trying to find a way to adult… when she meets an Australian business man at a bar and dives into a one night stand… that turns into a weekend fling. Lizzie is not one for relationships, her quirks always get in the way, so she is happy to say goodbye and see him fly across the world back home. Out of sight, out of mind… that is until her period is late!

Now, she is a modern girls and puts on her big girls panties and tells him! I know- shocking!! I absolutely loved that she doesn’t try to hide it from the father, while still giving options and letting him know her plans. Way to adult Lizzie! Not she even agrees to let him come back an d co-parent. Another adulting point! Obviously, for romance sake these two decide not to pursue the relationship, just the co-parenting and romantic roadblocks get in their way (I’m looking at you one bed!).

This story was a breath of fresh air and I absolutely love quirky Lizzie and the dreamy Aussi Rake! I think this is a must read.

🎧I was fortunate to receive an audiobook arc and found that the narrators both captured the characters perfectly! This second book of the series has different narrators than book 1, and the was a very happy surprise, since authors/ series usually use the same narrators for their books. I wasn’t in love with those narrators, but they did capture the previous characters, BUT would NOT have been right for Lizzie and Rake.

Will Peters dreamy Aussi accent was the icing on the cake of this story, while Summer Morton’s voice work embodied what I imagined Lizzie would sound like.

From the narrator selection the addition of little sound effects, the audio definitively enhanced the reading experience.

Lizzie Blake struggles with ADHD and a world and family that doesn't understand her, while at the same time trying to understand and love herself. Rake has forgotten what it is like to love someone, but when their paths collide, something magical happens. This a romantic comedy for real life, with rich themes unlike others, yet at the same time filled with humor, joy, tenderness, and emotion. It is sweet, sexy, hilarious, spicy, and adorable. The narrators do a fantastic job at helping give the characters life and pulling you into the story. Thanks to NetGalley, the author, and publisher for the opportunity to review this audiobook. Definitely recommended.

Having already read Lizzie Blake's Best Mistake and adoring it, I snatched up the change to experience this wonderful story again, as an audiobook this time.

Though my preferred consumption of books isn't typically an audiobook, I enjoyed this one. The narrators were great, adding a lot of the characters as they brought them to life.

Lizzie and Rake make what seems be a simple impetuous decision when hooking up one night. It's fun, they hit it off, and there could be a spark of something more... But Lizzie isn't about personal connections, and Rake is from Australia--kind of puts a damper on any serious future.

Or so they think. A few weeks later, Lizzie discovers that her one night (two night?) stand resulted in a pregnancy, and now she has to deal with not only planning for a baby, but planning for a baby with a man she barely knows... who very much wants to be involved.

I think this is a "it's not you, it's me" moment. I do like Mazey Eddings's writing style, and I think I'll try more from her--I so appreciated her writing some pretty hot sex within the first couple of chapters of this one, and I typically actually enjoy an oops baby plot. What I think made this troublesome for me was a lack of connection to the characters, and therefore an inability on my part to believe in THEIR connection.

I appreciate that Lizzie is ADHD rep on the page, and I have seen positive comments on that rep from readers who have ADHD--I can't comment on it from that perspective. Where I struggled was in her personality, to be honest. She was just very "on" in a way that I wouldn't be able to put up with in real life, and I think Rake was too mellow to really counteract this enough. It just felt like he was taking a lot of hits, even when she came at him over and over and over, even when things weren't entirely his fault.

I also will say that I was a bit uncomfortable with the way a past abortion the story was dealt with. It wasn't a dealbreaker, but it did bug me.

However, it's still a very sexy, funny story, and I think that if there had been more to the plot pushing these characters to other places, it would have worked more for me.

Lizzie has a pattern of messing things up because of her ADHD. After a string of mistakes that trails her, Lizzie has built a strong wall around herself never to get close to any man and just have meaningless hookups. After one such encounter with Rake, a dashing Australian who is equally emotionally unavailable, Lizzie finds herself pregnant. Rake may not want to commit but decides that he wants to be supportive and platonically coparent with Lizzie. How Lizzie finds herself and finds each other forms the premise of the story. 

Accidental pregnancy is my least favorite trope and I didn't expect to like this as much as I did. I loved Lizzie and Rake's character arc and growth in themself and finding each other. I loved Lizzie's friends who are so supportive and accepting of Lizzie. I loved how the family dynamics was dealt with and real all the characters were. Rake was exceptionally sweet and nice. Great follow up to A Brush with Love. Can't wait to read the story of the other friends!

Unfortunately, Lizzie Blake's Best Mistake is a DNF for me at 27%. I have never been drawn to the accidental pregnancy trope. To be fair, the author warns that this trope is used before the book even begins. I was curious so I decided to keep listening, but this isn't going to work for me.

Also, I think the audiobook misses the opportunity to use an Australian narrator for Rake's point of view. The narrator for Lizzie gives him an Australian accent when speaking for him so it felt like I wasn't listening to the same character when it was point of view.

I laughed out loud while reading this one, and I related to Lizzie’s adhd moments more than I’d like to admit! Quick, fun read!

Lizzie meets Rake at a bar and they go back to his hotel for some fun!! Rake is in Philadelphia for work and returns to Australia a few days later.

Lizzie had ADHD and really has a hard time managing it. She loses her job at a bakery because of her lack of time management. She soon finds out she is pregnant and must decide if she will tell Rake. Will he come back to the US if she tells him? Does she want to be with him? Does she want the baby?

Enjoyed this read and look forward to reading more by this author.
