This was so good. Like, I want to do it all over again. Right now. I smashed the request button when this appeared because I think Betty Gilpin is awesome. Since Nurse Jackie I've kept an eye out and was like oh hell ya every time she appeared in something. And now we get a glimpse of everything that went into those moments on screen. This book is so vulnerable, so funny, so revealing of her work, and of the big Hollywood machine.
The chance to hear her read her own book...Yes of course I want that please and thank you. It's fantastic. Betty please write another book so I can spend another 8ish hours with you.
Thank you NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for the advance copy.

Completely adored this collection of essays about Gilpin's upbringing with actor parents, her insecurities and challenges, fun theater and Hollywood insider stuff, and more. Her quirky use of language and style of humor were totally for me, though may not be for everyone. This line from the book sums up its appeal for me:
“My favorite kind of art is when someone tries their dark, silly, weird ideas.“ Same, Betty! Her performance of the audio was perfect.

This was an easy, amusing read. Betty has a lot of wit, humor, and anger that bled through these pages. Not every essay worked for me, but I recognize I'm not the target audience. But for the most part, this was a good read.
