This is a fun adventure-esque mystery story. I enjoyed getting to know the characters and the plot was fun!

Eliot Reed harbors a dangerous secret and lives by a strict rule: never return to a life of crime. But when Ada Reed, an Interpol investigator with her own hidden identity as a notorious safecracker, crosses his path, their lives intertwine amidst a murder inquiry. Despite being a first in the series, the characters are captivating and form a genuine connection. The intricately woven mystery keeps readers hooked with its unexpected twists. I highly recommend this thrilling book to fans of police procedurals and mystery novels.

The Perfect Scam was a fun, fast-paced crime novel with a bit of romance thrown in. I thoroughly enjoyed it, as I have with any Susanna Shore book I have read so far. I loved the writing style and definitely appreciated that it was able to be lighthearted and fun, while at the same time keeping my interest as a crime novel. I really enjoyed the two main characters, with the dynamic combinations of good/bad that each of them had. It made for interesting interactions and great chemistry with the two of them. I really look forward to more of the story and will definitely be keeping my eye out for the next in this series.

I received this as a ARC through NetGalley. The Perfect Scam is a crime novel with a little comedy sprinkled in. The story is about a man, Elliot, who has left his life of mafia crime behind in New York but unfortunately his past catches up to him in Europe. The female protagonist, Ada, leads a double life as a safecracker and Interpol analyst. She also has a past fueling her current endeavors. The story intertwines their separate lives and connections between their secrets start to show up. This was a fast-paced, witty, serious, yet at times funny, book. I read it on a plane ride from start to finish and did not put it down once. I look forward to reading the next one!

Lately, I’ve been traveling the world. Tasting the different cuisines and being mesmerized by the different sites, sounds, and cultures—all from my cozy little corner at home. Books do that for me. They allow me to feel the pulse of a foreign nation while not being bogged down in the political turmoil of today’s world. And it’s not as costly as the price of a holiday abroad.

In my search for something different and intriguing, I stumbled across Susanna Shore, a multifaceted talent who has mastered the art of writing a spectacular mystery in English—not her native language. To say that I adore her new series, The Reed Files, isn’t doing my attachment justice. I am one hundred percent hooked—and I know you will be too!

The Perfect Scam by Susanna Shore is nicely paced mystery with a hint of a romance.

I liked the premise of this book. as there is something about burglars that I find attractive. I liked the characters and I absolutely loved the beginning and main male character telling the story of his disappearance.
I was gripped from the first sentence.

I also fancied the main female character, her expertise in disguise, her fearlessness and spunk really appealed to me.

The story was steady paced, kept my interest although it slagged a bit in the middle only to pick up the pace towards the end.
I am glad that there are more installment as I am definitely continuing with this series, especially as it ended with a cliffhanger.
This is a great choice who those who enjoy fairly clean mystery thriller reads.

3.5 stars. Good old fashioned cat and mouse fun, full of action and banter that reminds me of some of my favorite procedural TV shows (think Remington Steele, Scarecrow & Mrs. King — like that). The plot is also fun, but honestly, it's so convoluted and emotional involvement is minimal, so I mostly just let it flow past me — because the real highlight is the relationship between the leads, two criminals who prove that sometimes bad guys make the best good guys (as they say in my beloved Leverage). Watching them flirt and banter as they think themselves out of increasingly sticky situations was a delight. I like that Shore left a few secrets unspoken between them, as I'm sure we're building up to a bigger series arc, and I'm looking forward to the reveals... and to more capers. My thanks to NetGalley and Crimson House Books for providing an eARC in exchange for an honest review.

The Perfect Scam by Susanna Shore introduces Eliot Reed and Ada Reed - no relation - who both lead secret lives, but for different reasons. Through a series of coincidences they keep crossing paths.

The story is fast paced, but towards the end it looses some momentum for me. Or actually that happened around the point that I got a bit annoyed with the number of wigs worn in the story (at one point Eliot takes a swim with a big).

3.5 stars, rounded up because I love the author.

Having looked through the other reviews of this book, I feel as if it's going to be controversial, in that whilst I enjoyed the content (I devoured the book in under two days), I felt somewhat empty after completing it.

The story felt a bit predictable, with not enough to grab me and keep me interested.

Based on the other feedback given, I suspect I am on my own and would certainly give another book by the same author another chance.

A fast paced novel about an ex police officer / now Interpol agent, an ex gangster, a thief and a dead guy what a mystery…. I enjoyed the characters and can’t help but want to know more about them, I’m looking forward to reading the next in the series!

The Perfect Scam is the first book in The Reed Files. It’s a promising start to this new series. Eliot and Ava reed (no relation) stumble upon a complicated mystery and set out to solve it. I found this a little confusing in some areas, but it all comes out in the end. Lots of mystery and a hint of romance will keep you turning the pages.

I received a free epub copy for an honest review.

I loved this book Eliot and Ada were great characters. The back and forth from each of their perspectives made the story that much more interesting. The level of suspense was just right and the banter back and forth between the main characters was entertaining. The characters were written to where whatever trouble they got in you knew they would get themselves out of it. I can't wait for the next one!

This was a fun romp along with two professional scammers! Eliot Reed was a mafia enforcer who double crossed his boss, and now is in hiding. He knows all the rules including disappearing without a trace, planning with multiple identities and money stashed, changing the way he looked, not drawing attention to himself and having a good back story. He just moved to Lyons, France, a large enough city to be safe for him. When he’s invited to a party in the penthouse of his building, he decides to take a chance and attend. Ada Reed, not related, works as an Interpol analyst, but is also a very successful cat burglar and has never been caught – until Eliot notices something odd and when he checks on his host’s bedroom, he finds her emptying the safe. Of course, he does not want to draw any attention to himself, and neither does Ada, but the next day the owner of the safe is murdered, and only Eliot and Ada seem to know that he was killed for the USB drive she stole the night before. They are certainly not going to the police with this information but decide to work together to uncover the truth. And thus, the games begin! A great storyline and at the end we know we’ll soon have Book Two in this amazing series. Thank you to #NetGalley, the publisher and the author for my copy of The Perfect Scam!

Gripping plot, skilfully written

I loved that the plot was so complex that I needed to concentrate fully or would miss something important. The Perfect Scam was excellent, I want to start reading again at page one, just to see what I missed.

I thoroughly recommended this book, there were a few huge coincidences - why not, it's fiction - the plot contained more twists and turns than a corkscrew. And what an ending!

Pretty decent story if you're interested in spy books and movies that aren't too intense. I would consider this an introduction into the spy genre. Even though a little slow at the start, it didn't take long at all for the plot to gain traction. Murders, chases, and more. It has dual POV (which is a plus) but their were a few times of repetition of the events that weren't needed. Elliot and Ada did have good chemistry working together and kept my attention. I would consider reading the sequel.

What fun, page-turning book. An ex-mobster gone straight accidentally meets a lovely cat burglar whose day job is working for InterPol. Two murders, drug-running, and a trip to Monte Carlo where our two protagonists meet up with a pair of policemen and plenty of shady characters. I couldn't it it down!

Eliot Reed has a secret, one he shouldn’t ever share. He has a set of rules to live by and Rule is if you leave a life of crime don’t ever go back. In walks Ada Reed (no relation), she works for interpol as an investigator, however, Ada leads a secret life. Ada is an infamous safecracker who has never been caught until Eliot catches her with her hands in the safe. Now fate has throw both of them in the middle of a police murder investigation. Can the keep their secrets hidden?

I really enjoyed this book. For a first in series the characters are well developed and quickly form a bond that is believable. I understand Eliot was a secondary character in another of Mrs. Shore but I have read that series yet. The mystery is well-plotted with plenty of twists and turns. I recommend this book to mystery and police procedurals.

All thoughts and opinions are my own, and I have not been by anyone.
