A great book that kept me awake most of last night - it’s a good job it’s a bank holiday weekend!!

The story is narrated by Tara, whose sister has recently died in a house fire and her 16 year old niece, Hannah, that she hasn’t seen since she was a small child, will now be coming to live with them.

What is a bit confusing is if you read the description of the book, is it comes across as if it was her niece narrating, but that’s not the case at all.

Without giving too much away both sisters have something to hide which is why Tara is so concerned that now that her sister is gone she will be next. There’s a massive twist in the middle of the book that you would never ever see coming!!! I’m pretty good at working out the twists but I was nowhere near right - about anything!!!! It’s a really good story .. perhaps a bit slow to start with but well worth giving up a night of sleep for.

A massive thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for the opportunity to read and review this gripping novel.

Thank you Bookouture and Netgalley for this opportunity.

I loved the start and I was realy interested in what will happen but somehow that twist was too crazy for me. I enjoyed the dual time line. The famil secrets were well hided. I would prefer a different ending, more positive things plese.

Thank you Bookouture and NetGalley for an early copy of The Niece. Quite a few plot twists, very fast reading. I like books like this that keep your interest. It was left as if there might even be a sequel.

If you haven’t read any books by Georgina Cross, you should! I’ve read them all, and this one does not disappoint. This fast paced thriller hooked me immediately. With twists throughout, it had me on the edge of my seat. Buried secrets come back with a vengeance, testing relationships and raising suspicion. Who is the real villain in this twisted tale of deception and betrayal? Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for my ARC. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

A psychological thriller by Georgina Cross is entitled The Niece.
I like to take this opportunity to thank NetGalley and Bookouture for providing me with a copy of this book. It is a pleasure to write an honest review in return.

Beth and Tara live on the family farm in Louisville, Kentucky, together with their parents. Tara moved to Alabama thirteen years ago after everything in her life fell apart. One morning, Tara received a phone call from detective Gillespie informing her of her sister's tragic death. Sadly, she died in a house fire that appeared to have been deliberate. Hannah, Beth's daughter, was fortunate to have survived.

Mr. Fredericks, the attorney, delivers the news that Hannah, sixteen, is coming to live with them. What's Tara to tell her twelve-year-old daughter, Cassy, about this series of events? In an instant, all the terrible memories and secrets came flooding back. What if she is the next target of the murderer?

The novel is an unputdownable page-turner. Countless twists and turns in this book will keep you glued to your seat. It's an enjoyable read because the story is well-written and easy to follow. The book's well edited, and I cannot find anything wrong with it. To anyone who enjoys psychological thrillers, I would highly recommend this novel. It deserves a five out of five-star rating from me. Congratulations, and well done.

Well Georgina Cross does it again and cements her spot as the top thriller writer of her generation. She has a way of writing that turns the whole story into a movie in your head and one that no matter how fast you read you cant devour fast enough. I will never be able to say enough good things about this author and this book is just another great masterpiece that everyone must check out. This book starts out with our main character, Tara, becoming the legal guardian of her niece Hannah after a tragic fire leaves her orphaned. This comes out of the blue for Tara since she hasn't talked to her niece or sister in years. Tara is also surprised because she and her sister got into a huge fight that fractured their relationship years ago. So when Tara learns she will be in care of Hannah she figures that maybe her sister had forgiven her years ago. However it isn't long before Hannah reveals that this isn't the case and both her mom and her will never forgive Tara for what she did to them. This story was full of secrets and it was nice to find them out with our main character. This book has everything a good thriller needs amazingly written and interesting characters, a plot that keeps you talking about it long after the story is done and last but not least just enough mystery to keep you guessing but not get you lost. Great read and while everything by Mrs Cross is amazing this is one that you wont want to miss. The ending had me blown away I never saw any of that coming.

The Niece by Georgina Cross is a very fast paced thrilling read! I read this book in a day as it was one of those books you just can't put down. The book revolves around 2 sisters, Tara and Beth, and their families. Something happened when Tara and Beth were young adults and they never came to terms with it. They are the only people that know what truly happened and neither one is talking. A man died and his wife and 2 sons were left devastated and very angry. The family blamed Tara and Beth for the man's death and never bought the story they told. The sisters grew apart and have remained estranged for the last 12 years.

Tara gets a phone call one morning from the family lawyer. He tells her that her sister, Beth, has died in a fire. He said that Beth had made a recent change to her will and that she wanted Tara to raise her daughter, Hannah, if anything ever happened to her. She was the only family left as the parents had died in a terrible accident over a decade ago. That's when Tara left Louisville for good and moved to Alabama. Tara also has a 12 year old daughter named Cassie, but no husband in the picture. Cassie doesn't know that her mom had a sister and is shocked but excited to find out her cousin will be coming to live with them.

Tara and Cassie fix up a spare room for Hannah and go to pick her up at the airport. The lawyer told Tara that she would recognize her because she had long black hair like Beth and Tara. Tara hasn't seen Hannah since she was 3 and she's now 16. They finally see someone matching the description and meet Hannah. She seems shy and withdrawn as she just lost her mom 2 days ago and her home burned to the ground. She lost everything. Cassie is good for Hannah and keeps things lighter for her. They talk about all kinds of things and bond over clothes, music, makeup, their new phones, etc. Tara is relieved that things are working out so well, but then Hannah makes some comments to make Tara wonder what her sister has told her.

Beth had become a recluse according to the lawyer and rarely left the house. Because of that, Hannah was homeschooled and didn't have many social interactions with anyone else. She excelled at school and was quite advanced for someone only 16. Tara was concerned how Hannah would be able to cope with a public high school as it would be very different than what she was used to. Cassie helped Hannah know what to expect and she seemed to be ready to give it a go. When the school registrar is outside waiting for Tara after only a couple days of school, things might not be going as well as she thought. Is Hannah hiding something? Did she really have good grades and take advanced classes when homeschooled? Who is she talking to on her cellphone? Does she have something against Tara? Does she really like Cassie?

The suspense builds and builds in this book and there's a big twist towards the end. I really enjoyed this book and would highly recommend it if you love a good thriller. The Niece will be available on September 2, 2022. I'd like to thank NetGalley and Bookouture for an advanced copy in exchange for a fair review. #TheNiece #NetGalley #Bookouture

This was a fast paced book that kept me entertained. That prologue had be hooked from the start!

The story is told in dual timeline (one of my favorite formats) between 13 years ago and the present. However instead of getting a chunk of chapters in the present, a chunk in the past, then rest back to present I wish it had been more interwoven.

My detective hat was on and I did guess the first twist but I did not see the second twist coming. As a thriller fan I’m all for the shock and awe, I want my socks to be knocked off at the end, but I also want it to make sense to the story. And while I enjoyed having my jaw hit the floor when the second twist came to light, I couldn’t help but think how far fetched it seemed.

This was my first by Georgina Cross and it was a solid thriller! I’ll be checking out her backlist starting with Nanny Needed.

Thank you to Netgalley and Bookouture for the eARC in exchange for an honest review!

Thank you to Bookouture and net galley for this amazing and fast book. This way my first book by Georgina Cross I have compared her writing talents to Frieda Mc Faddden. I will be reading more of this authors book since I loved the quick fast paced style. It had a twist at the end that I did not see coming. This book was about sisters, and the responsibility that they take on. However, one thing that I did not like was I started reading this book as the girl in your house and then the next day when I told my friends about it they were unable to find that title because it got changed.

Every time you think you have solved the mystery, there's a new twist. The book just keeps you guessing, which makes it so difficult to put down. And trust me, you are NOT going to be able to predict the end till you are there!

Georgina is getting better and better. 5 🌟
Tara is a single mom to 12-years-old Cassie. They live a quiet but stable life in Decatur, Alabama. This changes when Tara gets the call, that her estranged sister Beth died in a fire. The only survivor is her 16-years-old daughter Hannah. The family lawyer called to inform that Hannah is going to live with Tara, as Beth wished. But of course there is a troubled past, a secret and Tara is afraid that the past will catch up with them again. Are they safe and who is that stranger that they allowed to live with them? Hannah seems to know something. Has Hannah be manipulated? Who is who is hard to tell in this story and this is what I'd expected from a Georgina Cross book. She's getting better and better and this book is no exception. Characterization was good and so was the suspense. Loved it and finished it in a single sitting.
Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for giving me an advance copy.

I made assumptions on this book fairly early on. What I thought happened and who and why. BUT the story was so enticing I forgot said assumptions along the way, until they hit me in the face and I felt sick.

The Niece is a story filled with shocking family secrets. A LOT of secrets.

Following Tara who has recently gained full custody of her niece after a tragic accident killed her estranged sister. Tara and her daughter now have to get used to a new member the household while Tara fights her burning anxiety of what lies ahead.

The Niece had a steady pace throughout, with plenty of little twist ahead of the main SHOCKING MOMENT to keep you reading just one more chapter, that obviously carries on and on. I definitely could not put this book down.

This was an incredibly well written story, main thing the pace and keeping the reader intrigued until the plot thickens and I couldn’t/wouldn’t put the book down.

The Niece is set for release on September 2nd and is definitely a book that any psych thriller should hit up for a preorder.

I would like to thank the publisher and Netgalley for my review copy on exchange for my honest review.

Thank you NetGalley, Bookouture and Georgina Cross for letting me read “The Niece” in exchange for an honest review!

I only recently heard about Georgina Cross and saw that she had a new book on NetGalley. Perfect chance for me to snatch it up! And it was worth it, I will need to read more of her books!

What did Beth tell her?! Of course the reader is left hanging for quite a while, suspense building up. We get some answers in the middle of the book, but it also leads to more questions.
I started to question everything and everyone?! Who’s telling the truth and who is not?

I had my own theories about the twist, but I was wrong. I still enjoyed the ending. I had my doubts about Hannah all along. Still, it was sad in a way, without wanting to spoil anything.

What I noticed right away, that the author has a very easy and fluent style. I got sucked in right away into the story. It was easy to understand - despite the mysterious events in the past- and get into it. I like my twist and turns, but it’s as important to establish the story and the characters. Georgina Cross succeeded very well, I think. An enjoyable book with some surprising twists.

I read the book in pretty much one sitting. I did not get bored for a second and needed to know more. A solid 4 stars.

I thought I’d enjoy this one after loving Nanny Needed by this author but it just didn’t click. I didn’t find this to be too thrilling or suspenseful. I also found it too unrealistic and the characters annoyed me which how dramatic they were.

Hmmmmm. So the description isn’t very telling of the actual book itself as it is not from the Niece’s perspective at all. But more of the aunt and who on earth is living in her house.
This one was ok. It kept me interested and I didn’t expect the end but the end was also a bit bizarre. I mean we all know something is up with “Hannah.” But the the whole thing was a bit far fetched.
It was ok all in all but not as much of a thriller as I had hoped.

- I found the book summary to be misleading because it’s from the niece’s perspective, but the book is from the aunt’s POV.
- I didn’t think this book was all that thrilling & the twists weren’t shocking. The characters were overly dramatic & the title itself is a huge spoiler for the book.
- The main character Tara (the aunt) has a shameful secret hidden in her past. Cool, can’t wait to find out what it is. But we don’t need to be reminded in every chapter she has a secret. The repeated hints & insinuations annoyed me.
- When the past events are finally revealed, you gotta wonder why Tara didn’t change her name if she was that afraid/ashamed/consumed with guilt. And why she and Beth weren’t able to come up with a better story.
- I did like that both Tara & her sister raised their daughters essentially on their own & didn’t need a man to help keep it all together.

Rating is rounded up from 2.5
