This isn’t a bad book but it didn’t wow me either. It is well written and with great character development. I felt like I knew these characters. The plot was just a bit far fetched and I struggled to finish it. I would like to read more books by this author because I felt like there was a lot of writing talent, this plot just didn’t do it for me. Also, in audio books, I wish they would pay a male and female reader for the books. Sometimes the changing of voices is a little creepy and weird.

I have been reading so many duds lately was was anticipating this being the same. It was not 4/5 stars

While the writing itself is nothing special I did really like the storyline and the plot twists. Every time I thought I had it figured out something new would come up. I will at admit there were some elements that weren’t developed fully or spots that made me roll my eyes but overall I found this enjoyable.

This does have some heavy content such as kidnapping, murder, torture, and child abuse. If those things make you uncomfortable I would pick something else.

I also really liked the narrator for this book. It’s the first time I have actually liked a child’s voice in a book.

I would recommend this book to someone who wants a hometown mystery that is twisty and twisted.

Wow! This book took me on a wild ride. Noa is a young woman with a condition that causes her to feel no pain. When a young girl in her hometown goes missing, she must return to help with the search. This book was strong from the start. There was never a dull moment. This one sucked me in from the very beginning and never let go. There were a lot of eye roll moments and some aspects of the book are very far fetched. However, this is a fast paced thriller that keeps the reader on the edge of their seats. This is an easy, quick read that keeps the reader engrossed and leaves you wanting more! 4 stars due to the outrageous nature of some aspects of the book but overall a fantastic thriller!

I listened to the audio version and the narrator was awesome! The book itself, I have mixed feelings about. The main character is just ridiculous. She’s supposed to be late twenties but is so self centered and immature that she seems more like a bratty teenager. I enjoyed the mystery portion however, it was an interesting storyline with lots of twists and turns.

I am currently blown away but this audio book. Tara Sands is an AMAZING narrator. I have found it can be a real hit or miss depending on narrators and I absolutely loved her voice acting.

And what would the narration be without this shocking thriller from TL Finlay! She had me immediately with Noa’s inability to feel pain which then unfolded in a deep dive to her teen years to help identify the present day circumstances in this reunion of high school pals gone very, very wrong.

I can’t get over how well written the twists were nor can I count all the, “what the hell!?” moments I encountered in this book. And no, those aren’t confused what-the-hells but, “no way is this actually happening!!!”

A must read if you loved AR Torres’ The Ghost Writer or Shanora Williams’ Perfect Ruin!

What a thriller!! I received an ARC Audiobook and, not only is the narrator was awesome, but Finlay does it again!!! This has me second guessing every single character. I thought I knew what was going on and then I realized I really did NOT understand what was going on LOL... And then when I thought I figured it out again, there were more twists. This is a mystery upon mystery that you absolutely do not want to miss out on!

WOW! I am giving this 4 outrageous stars! You have to suspend a lot of disbelief and roll your eyes occasionally but this whacky story is worth it!

Noa has that condition where she feels no pain, which as someone with fibromyalgia, gives me some envy. It’s no walk in the park, however. Things you don’t even think about like needing to pee. She has to set an alarm. Very strange stuff.

Noa was passed up for a promotion because of this. They saw her as a liability. At the same time, a disappearance happened in her small hometown. Her parents want her to come help search, they need all hands on deck, so she drives there from Miami even though it’s the kid of the guy who broke her heart.. and the woman he dumped her for.

The town wasn’t always kind to her because of her condition which seems odd because who cares?? but anyway, she’s falling back in with her old friends and enjoying their company despite the sad circumstances. Old feelings are surfacing. Will that get in the way of the search for Skye? Is Skye closer than we think or long gone?

I don’t want to even begin to describe this search because it was twisty and the shock value is part of the fun so no spoilers! I was shrieking until the very end! It straddled the line of getting too out there at times but it was definitely original and I didn’t see the twists coming! Things would get out of hand very quickly and sometimes I would wonder if it was a dream or really happening. Obviously I’d figure it out.

Thanks to NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for the chance to listen and review. The audio narration was great!

I've become increasingly aware that thrillers/mystery novels that include a main character with some sort of disability is a niche that I'm a huge fan of. It's so eye-opening to explore a world where a medical issue so significantly impacts the narrative and character both in positive and negative ways. Readers that enjoyed The Maid will also enjoy Girls Without Tears!

This book was incredibly interesting. I was unaware of the condition of CIPA before this book and while I cannot speak to the accuracy of the way it is portrayed in this book, I found this educational on a disorder I knew nothing about.

Our main character has CIPA. This means she cannot feel pain. We see how this both helps and hinders her throughout the book. We go along for trips to the doctor and ER, we hear about her childhood damaging her body and not even knowing it, we learn how she’s adapted to appear “normal” - wincing when the amount of pressure she feels is at a level where most people feel pain, saying ouch or flinching when someone else gets hurt - stuff people without CIPA do without thinking.

When she goes back to her hometown after her ex boyfriend’s daughter goes missing, she’s confronted with emotions and prejudice she thought she left behind when she moved. The more time she spends with the people from her past, more she realizes that nothing has changed - until nothing is as it seems.

There’s twists and turns right up to the end which made it more exciting. I was invested in finding the little girl just as much as the town. This is a page turning thriller - I say as I enjoyed this on audio from NetGalley - one that you’ll think about long after it’s over.

This book definitely kept me on my toes! I enjoyed Noa and the plot was quite enjoyable. The south Florida setting was also a nice change of pace for me. There are twists and turns and it is absolutely worth checking out!

Noa is not sure if she should go back in Everglades City, her hometown, when the daugher of her ex, Zack, and Taylor, the girl he dumped Noa for, Skye, 6 years old, disappears. She would have to face everyone who never really got her medical condition, Congenital Insensitivity to Pain. But when she does, she also uncovers secrets that would've been better left alone...
Check your trigger warnings. I read this as an audio book, in one sitting. It was fast paced, and I loved it! Skye is so cute! Also, Noa's disorder is one I have never heard about, and it's fascinating. The book made me want to research it some more. I also love the representation of someone living with a disability. There were good twists, although predictable. It's hard to surprise me, but I do admit that I saw a few of them coming not very long before they happened. I totally recommend!
I received an advance review copy for free from NetGalley and Dreamscape Media, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Ooooof. This one kept me on my toes. I had more theories than I care to admit. Noa goes back to her hometown, the one she ran away from so long ago, to help her ex boyfriend and his new wife look for their daughter that has gone missing. (I'm not sure I would be so nice, but Noa is a better woman than I) In going back, she has to face her family and friends that she left behind. Some are forgiving and some aren't as much. Jamie is Zack's best friend and was Noa's best friend as well, he is thrilled to have her back and has always wondered why she left him too. The truth was it was to hard to stay connected to the town at all. She has CIPA and cannot feel pain. That stigma has lived with her and people in the town either didn't understand her or pitied her.
I thought this medical condition was very well done and researched. I have read another book where the character had this condition and I feel like I understand it better now.
I didn't trust anyone in this book. At one point, I thought it could be literally anyone. I did figure out a few of the twists early, but it didn't take away from the overall feel of the book because there were twists and turns galore.
The narrator was perfect. I really felt like I was living this book while listening.
Thank you to Dreamscape, Netgalley and Traci Finlay for an early audio review copy.

This book was like if the stupidest character in a bad horror movie doesn't actually die at the beginning... You would spend the whole movie yelling at the character to stop being so stupid right? That's this book. The main character was completely unrelatable. Nothing she did made any sense. The CIPA element was intriguing to me because I appreciate representation in books. Unfortunately, even there it didn't quite feel real. I understand that she doesn't feel pain but she was able to endure more than seems humanly possible.

I went a bit out of my comfort zone for this one, and I’m glad I did! It was a bit hard to get into in the beginning, but once it picked up it was really good.

I really enjoyed this book from the first chapter! Strong female character who overcomes her own struggles. The past comes back to haunt her but WHO will she trust & are they really trustworthy OR is crazy? This book will keep you guessing from beginning to end.

I requested this one because it might be an upcoming title I would like to review on my Youtube Channel. However, after reading the first several chapters I have determined that this book does not suit my tastes. So I decided to DNF this one.

Noa has built a life for herself in Miami. She hasn’t been home to Everglades City in years, preferring to stay away after her high school boyfriend left her for another woman. Now, Noa has had word that Zack and Taylor’s little girl has been taken on her way home from school. Noa, reluctantly agrees to go home to help with the search. She decides to tell everyone in Everglades City that she has been cured of her CIS, the condition that renders her unable to feel pain; it’s not true, but Noa is tired of being treated like an oddity. The South Florida setting, Noa’s unusual medical condition and some of the most interesting plot twists I’ve ever encountered make this an absolute showstopper. Be prepared to do nothing else once you’ve started this book
