This is a psychological thriller has a good premise. The characterisation isn’t the best. I didn’t think it was as thrilling as it could have been.

A really good read that kept me wanting to read just another chapter and before I knew it, I'd finished the whole thing. So gripping!

Grace is moving into the home of Marcia and Travis Thorpe, as she is going to become their surrogate, so they can fulfil their wishes to become parents.

The Thorpe's seem like the perfect couple but Grace begins to feel that they are overbearing and watching her every move. When a threatening note turns up outside her door she begins to unravel the Thorpe's secrets.

A great domestic thriller with plenty of twists and turns throughout.

Thank you to Netgalley for my copy in exchange for an honest review.

Grace has agreed to be a surrogate for Marcia and Travis Thorpe. It's her own heartache and guilt that drives her to this decision. Grace denies compensation, even though she has no money. The Thorpes are wealthy. They invite Grace to live in the guesthouse on their property.

As time goes on, Grace realizes she may have made a mistake moving in with the Thorpes. But where else can she go? She has no money, home, or anyone to turn to for help. The Thorpes are constantly popping into the guesthouse. Grace feels smothered from the lack of alone time. Grace meets Clayton at the local coffee shop. Clayton becomes a stable presence for Grace during her pregnancy and stay at the Thorpes.

Even with Clayton, Grace becomes increasingly worried about staying with the Thorpes. She begins to discover some secrets that make her realize she and her baby might not make it out alive.

I loved this book! The character development was excellent. I kept thinking I had things figured out, but then the author took us on another turn. It was definitely twisted, which kept me locked in for the entirety of the novel. The creep factor was fully present. It is also an emotional rollercoaster, so be prepared for some sad parts. The plot may be a bit far-fetched, but I absolutely loved the book regardless!

Thank you Bookouture and NetGalley for the copy in exchange for an honest review. Forgot to review this one after reading!

"I never thought being a surrogate could lead to my death."
The Surrogate's Gift by L. G. Davis

🌿BOOK REVIEW🌿

Grace had everything a fiance, an amazing job, things start spiralling downward after her sisters death. With the guilt consuming her, she makes the decision to become a surrogate in the hopes that it could bring her closure and the much needed peace she yearns for.

After finding the perfect couple, moving to another state so that the new expectant parents could experience her journey with her, strange things start occurring. Grace starts feeling claustrophobic and wonders if this seemingly perfect home is not so perfect after all.

A faced paced dark thriller, with a surprising plot twist. Davis served a great thriller and I am looking forward to reading more of this authors books.

Oh wow. This book had me feeling all the feels. It kept me on the edge of my seat, turning those pages, I went from happy to sad, to concerned, to ending with tears in my eyes.

Never one for a happy ending to be honest, but when it is perfectly placed, like in the surrogates gift it makes me hella emotional.

This was an incredible journey for all the characters involved and for the reader too. It is filled with twists, and was fairly creepy along the way, but the biggest twist of all is very unexpected.

This is my second time reading an LG David novel and it was brilliant. I will definitely be continuing to add these books to my TBR

I love domestic thrillers! The one was really good! I was scared it was going to be too similar to other “adopted parents have secrets” book but I liked the view of grace. I thought she was a little weird at the beginning because there were so many questions we were left to wonder why she would give her baby up for no reason. I struggle with infertility so I can relate to this book! Not being able to have something makes you want it that much more !

Really enjoyed this book. It was interesting, reading the characters personalities and how they played out. I thought I had the ending sussed out but there was a great plot twist in the end!

I really enjoyed this one, it was a great story, another author to go on my favourites list!

When Grace decides to be a surrogate and to give the ultimate gift of a baby to one lucky couple, she just needs to find a couple she connects with. Then she meets Marcia and Travis Thorpe; they are wealthy due to Marcia’s parents’ family business and seem very much in love with just one thing missing in their lives- a much wanted baby. Grace has no doubt that they are the couple she has been looking for and after a few meetings with Marcia and Travis, contracts are signed, and the process begins. Much to Grace, Marcia and Travis’s delight Grace falls pregnant within a couple of months and with Grace refusing to be paid for the surrogacy Marica and Travis convince her to move in with them to their guesthouse so they can financially and emotionally support her and the growing baby. Grace realises this is the perfect solution as it enables her to go “off grid” for a while and hopefully escape her past and with it the reason she decided to become a surrogate. However, after becoming closer to Marcia and Travis, Grace begins to see cracks in their marriage, and she starts to wonder whether her first impression of them was very wrong. Can she really give up her baby when she feels she doesn’t know it’s potential parents at all and is the past as easy to escape from as she once thought?!

This was good, definitely gripping and a page turner. I was hooked fairly early on, and I really enjoyed the “then” chapters as it helped me get a much better understanding of Grace and the reason why she decided to be a surrogate. As this is a spoiler free review, I will just say I definitely did not see coming what occurred in chapter 35 and that did make me gasp with shock. The author did a brilliant job leading me down the wrong path over who the baddie of the story was, and I was 100% sucked in by the red herrings and did not predict who the actual villain was until it was plainly obvious. The ending was such a tease though and now I really want a sequel!

Overall, a really good book from L.G Davis and I would highly recommend it for any fans of psychological thrillers. I have already brought another book by L.G Davis on the back of reading this book and I look forward to reading it plus reading what else she comes out with.

Thank you to NetGalley, L.G Davis and Bookouture for my advanced reading copy. Out now.

Grace is a surrogate for a wealthy couple named Travis and Marcia. She starts out thinking they are a wonderful couple who want to take care of her and her unborn child. That changes as Travis and Marcia become increasingly weird towards her. The plot takes place between the past and present, which reveals why Grace becomes a surrogate after experiencing a a difficult loss. This book was a roller coaster of twists and turns all the way to the end. The ending was a great conclusion to a fast paced thriller. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the advanced reader copy.

When I received an ARC of this book, I knew I was I was going to love it! The plot sounded interesting, and it was exactly that. The characters & storyline kept me at the edge of my seat and I couldn’t put the book down because I had to know what was going to happen. What I love most about this book is that it is immediately interesting and will hold the readers attention the entire time.

First, it should be noted that this book was previously published in 2021 as The Surrogate’s Gift. So, if anything sounds familiar, that’s probably why. The main character, Grace, is carrying extreme guilt. That is well-established at the beginning of the story. The reader gets glimpses as to why in flashbacks that are distributed evenly throughout the book. The premise of the story is interesting, and the storytelling mostly succeeds. Things you think are happening may or may not be accurate. However, I will say that I was confused by Grace’s behavior. There are several times that she says one thing and then does the exact opposite. There are also characters who don’t seem to have a lot to do, and the epilogue felt disjointed (until I realized I’d missed a connection). It’s still a decent psych thriller.
