The twisted dead by Darcey Coates is the third book in the grave keeper series. All of our favourite characters are back. Keira, Mason, Zoe, Harry and Adage. Honestly, Darcey writes fantastic characters.

When Dane Crispin invites Keira and her friends to dinner at his mansion, they go and Keira finds herself trying to find out more on the nature of ghosts. Keira still struggles with her memories but in this book, she makes some headway.

This book starts off easily, picking up where we left off. Pretty soon it really ramps up and I could not put it down. The suspense of having to know what happens next is real!

There was multiple things going on in this book and they all fell together really nicely. I found Mason and Zoe amusing at times. I love how we know Keira as she is but when danger approaches she becomes really confident, going off instinct. It's a really interesting way to write her, do we know her as well as we do?

I throughly enjoyed this one, especially as it ramped up.

Thank you to the publisher for my ebook copy in return for an honest review. All thoughts are my own.

Keira can't remember anything about her life before she arrived in her small town, where her ability to see ghosts has landed her the job of caretaker to the local cemetery. But when she is called to the mansion of the wealthy Crispin family, she can not refuse the invitation.
With a delightfully quirky cast of characters and an exciting pace, The Twisted Dead grabs your attention and doesn't let go. I was unaware when I began reading that it was the third in a series, but it reads very well as a standalone novel and now I can't wait to read the rest!

I’ve read several of Darcy Coates’ books so I was thrilled to have the opportunity to read the third and final installment of the Gravekeeper series.

I enjoyed the first two books and loved finally finding out how Keira’s story ended. I found this series to be nontraditional for Darcy Coates in the sense that it focuses more on character development and character relationships instead of being “scary.”
I must admit, this book wasn’t exactly my cup of tea since I tend to enjoy horror books purely for the spookiness they provide. I enjoyed reading about Keira’s adventure and I liked all the side characters, but it felt more like a small-town mystery to me instead of a typical horror story.

I would absolutely recommend this book (and the trilogy as a whole) to anybody looking for a fun, character-driven story with paranormal aspects. It’s certainly a great autumn/Halloween read. I would not recommend it for somebody looking for a particularly scary book, but it is quite enjoyable otherwise.

This Gravekeeper book may be my favorite so far in the series! We follow Keira and her friends as they continue to find out the truth about Keira's past. Darcy is so great at tying horror elements into this book, as well as writing some downright funny bits. I'm looking forward to seeing where this series will go and as always, Darcy Coates is an auto read author for me.

Darcy Coates once again shows how adaptable she is as an author with her latest, The Twisted Dead. With charismatic characters and a fast paced plot, The Twisted Dead is sure to entertain. I couldn't put the book down, and I didn't want the story to stop.

The only disappointment with this book is that I have to wait for a sequel. If you are looking for a fun story involving mystery and ghosts, this is the book for you.

I’m going to be upfront and let you all know that I have not read the first two books of the Gravekeeper series. I didn’t feel lost as there was enough about the first two books that I felt I knew the basics of the other books.

After killers and a mysterious company bring angst to amnesiac Keira’s life, she faces something she has no idea how to fix. The town hermit, Dane Crispin, who lives in a crumbling mansion is being drained by the ghosts of his dead relatives. Unfortunately, there are a lot of them and at the rate they are going, Keira and friends, Zoe and Mason, don’t think he’ll last much longer.

While Keira practices with her powers to see if she can help Dane with his not so dearly departed family, Zoe and Mason are ready to help. They are best friend goals. Mason and Zoe go through their own transitions and are the best friends Keira could ever wish for. They all have their pasts to contend with as they encounter ghosts, shades, and men in black who want Keira dead.

This is also my first read of Darcy Coates. I usually like my ghost stories with a bit of romance. While I think there is a possibility for Mason and Keira, I loved their friendship throughout the novel. Zoe is a trip! She reminds me of a friend of mine and she has the best fashion sense. *cough* black ball gown *cough* While the story revolves around Keira, Mason, and Zoe, I loved the local goth/aspiring speed metal musician, Harry. He at one point just takes a nap on a grave and Keira sees the ghost the grave belongs to is not happy about it.

Final thoughts, I loved this book and Coates writing style. These books are written in third person, but you are really able to get all the perspectives. I got pulled into the imagery of the graveyard and the descriptions of the ghosts throughout the novel. I will definitely be reading the first two books in the series soon and gobbling up all her other series as soon as possible.

I received The Twisted Dead for free. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

I love Darcy Coates books, and while The Twisted Dead was not my favourite, I still enjoyed it and rate it 3.5*.

Darcy Coates is a fantastic horror writer, she nails gothic horror and her books are atmospheric in the best way. Unfortunately, I feel this is where The Twisted Dead lacked a bit. It started off perfectly, with the main character living in a cemetery, the village backdrop and Crispin manor. I wish the author had stayed with that storyline and explored the background of Blighty and the Crispin family further. I found the Crispin manor setting and storyline very promising.

Moving on to the second storyline the book lost me a little bit, a lot of chasing and running, no atmosphere and a weird reveal. To be fair the two storylines did tie up well and it seems as though a follow up book may be coming, which leaves room to explore the unanswered questions.

Overall, I’d still recommend it and The Twisted dead falls into the usual comfort read category.

Couldn't get into this. I did try, but it isn't for me. Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC in exchange for an honest review of The Twisted Dead. All opinions are my own.

Keira, Blighty's resident medium, is back in Coates' newest installment of the Gravekeeper series. After the events of the last book, Keira, Mason and Zoe have now been invited to The Crispin Mansion for dinner. The mansion is steeped in history that is equal parts complicated and bloody. Keira senses the presence of restless spirits the moment she steps through its door. In her hunt to help Dane Crispin rid himself of the ghostly chains, we dive more into Mason and Keira's pasts by taking a road trip in a very Supernatural-like (TV show) vibe.

Darcy has a knack for writing wonderful, rich characters with deep backstories, that make you feel like you could just walk up and be part of the little hunting group. Zoe is hands down the star of the story sometimes with all the things she comes out with.

"Do you kill one person to save many, or do you let the train go clatter-clatter-splatter-splatter?"

For a richer read, do make sure you finish books one and two before reaching for this one, however, you can read this as a standalone too. Fans of Darcy's previous works, make sure you add this one to your list for when it is released in February 2023. If you love Supernatural or Ghost Whisperer on your television, you might love this series too. For me, I hope this series never ends.

A big thank you to Darcy Coates, NetGalley and Poisoned Pen Press for an advanced copy for honest review.

4 stars

I didn’t realize that this was part of a series, I read it anyways. I dont think it took anything away and it held its own as a stand alone.

Darcy Coates writes what I’d refer to as a cozy horror/mystery. This wasn’t too scary but just creepy enough. The mystery was solid and the characters great. She’s becoming quite the fixture on my bookshelves these days, for good reason. You get a great and entertaining read every time 😁

This is the third installment in The Gravekeepers series by Darcy Coates. While you don’t have to necessarily read the first or second book to read this one (as it could be a stand alone,) feel like to better understand where Keiara has been and truly what she is, the backstory would make this one more fulfilling- though again, it can be read as a stand alone.

There are plenty of new adventures and creepy haunted mansions and graveyards for Keiara, Zoe, and Marcus to get into in this installments, as well as daring escapes and mad scrambles running for their lives.

This is such a well written novel, but about everything Darcy Coates does is an amazing gem. Highly recommend for lovers of horror, ghost stories, thrills, chills and narrow, breath taking escapes.

This is one you should not pass up!

Like many others, I didn't realize that this is the third book in the series until I was approved. I wanted to dive into this right away so I didn't read the other two first. That being said, I honestly didn't have to read them to read this, the author manages to catch you up fairly quickly and easily so you know what is going on at all times. This isn't exactly creepy or scary like her other books in my opinion but I still really enjoyed it. The characters were easily likeable and the entire book had the right amount of humor without making it corny. This wasn't my favorite by her but I still really enjoyed it. Definitely recommend for her fellow fans. Three Stars.

Continues the fascinating story while adding even more layers to the mystery. Series keeps getting better and better seemingly with an overarching plan in place!! Couldn't put it down, can't wait til the next one

I hadn’t realized that this was the third of a series until after I requested it so I wanted to make sure I read the first two books before reading this one. I really enjoyed all three. Zoe is definitely my favorite character and the way she and Mason poke fun at each other had me giggling out loud.
We learn more about Keira’s past in this book (she starts to put some puzzle pieces together) and I like how each book in the series gives us a little bit more. We also learn a bit more about Zoe’s mom and Mason’s time at medical school.
I’m not sure if this is marketed as YA but I would have no problem letting my 12 year old read this. There’s no romance or even any swear words that I remember. If you are a fan of the Supernatural TV show, you’d probably enjoy this series!

Another wonderful scary book by Darcy Coates. The Twisted Dead is the third book in the Gatekeeper series. I had not read the first two, so I wanted to make sure I was up to date on the plot and characters before reading The Twisted Dead. I loved every one of them!

Keira, Zoe and Mason are setting out on a journey that will uncover more of Keira’s past. This book is a paranormal adventure with lots of ghost and creepy things happening everywhere. Zoe, hands down is hysterical through the series. She is game for any ghost hunting. I am looking forward to the next book in the series.

When Darcy Coates puts out a book, you drop what you are doing and you read that book, that simple.

I have been a huge fan of Darcy Coates since I picked up The Haunting of Ashburn House, since then I have read 18 of her books in the past year and I am YET to be disappointed even once. Now, The Twisted Dead is a part of The Gravekeeper series. The Whispering Dead and Ravenous Dead are also a part of this series. The Twisted Dead, can be read as a standalone although I would highly recommend you read the first two books as they serve great foundation and history on Keira and her abilities.

We follow along with our main character, Keira and her ability to see ghosts. Coates books are not your typical ghost stories and are actually quite thrilling and jam packed with suspense. These ghosts are not for the faint of heart and will leave you thinking about what you read long after you conclude.

I feel as though what is most special about Coates books is her ability to surprise you and keep you on your toes throughout the entire novel. So instead of going into too much detail about the actual plot I will highly recommend you read The Twisted Dead if you are a fan of thrillers, horror, and suspense!

A twisted, merciless mystery that had me on the edge of my seat and reading well into the middle of the night. Great read!

"Breakfast in a haunted graveyard has to be the most metal thing I've done in my life".

Keira is still trying to figure out her past while helping the ghosts of Blighty Graveyard move on. But a dinner invitation from Dane Crispin, a man who once tried to kill her, sets Keira & her friends Zoe & Mason on a journey that will uncover more than just a way to help Dane.

This was such a great edition to the Gravekeeper series. This whole series is great to curl up with when you want something spooky but cozy that can be enjoyed by adults & young adults. Has great imagery & a interesting paranormal vibe without delving too dark or gory. Zoe was my favourite. No matter how dire the situation her humour brought such levity to the moment & kept me laughing.

With the reveals we're given cannot wait for book 4 to see what Keira does next.

Thank for the ARC.
Darcy Coates books are like my comfort read. I break one out whenever I have a bad day. I love the creepy spooky wholesome stories she writes.
This is one from my favorite Coates series.

I love every character. I love the ghosts, the history, and the grand conspiracy.
