Super Mentors provides a unique look at the concept of mentors.

Each of us create our future by who we know, who we don't know, and what we do about it. Super Mentors may give the new college student a step forward into a future of being more certain of the how to ask someone for help; a valuable skill that may not be readily taught while in high school.

For me, this book provided me insights for being a better mentor for those I spend time helping. Being in the space of both having been in a job for a while as well as starting a second career, I found value in many of the concepts as the authors were able to provide context for mentoring above the stereotypical mentoring during college or as a new employee. Peer to peer mentors, to the super mentor role, all provided insights as to how all of us can still benefit from a mentor in some fashion.

There were points in the book where I couldn't tell whether the author wrote about himself or was explaining a different mentor relationship.

There is no doubt that mentoring others is a service to help, and being mentored is also a blessing as you can condense some knowledge into a shorter period of time. To be able to ask questions and receive the best answers from the mentor allows for stepping above where you might have been otherwise. Having a framework to ensure that you have a productive relationship, no matter how short or long it may be, creates the true value of the book.

This book, ‘Super Mentors: The Ordinary Person’s Guide to Asking Extraordinary People For Help’ by Eric Koester with Adam Saven is published today. It speaks a lot of sense in how mentorship has changed in this current time and how what most young people looking for a mentor actually need is an opportunity.

Following the approach throughout of “Aim High, Ask Smaller & Do it Again”, Eric gives practical advice on actions to take to unlock opportunities. As per my own experience, he cites how there are a lot of kind people out there and how it will surprise you how often they say ‘yes’ if you ask for their help. It may start out as small as a comment on their LinkedIn post!

last night, i spent half of this book with a friend's debut vtubing stream as bgm in the background. i know nothing about streaming, but i wanted to show up to support this friend, so there i was. as i went through this book while listening to my friend chatting, i read this: "if someone provides you advice, guidance, access, or opportunities, they are mentoring you."

the friend who was streaming last night, as it turns out, is a mentor of mine - a super mentor, in fact. without giving too much away, we became twitter friends after i livetweeted an event she was in, and years after she invited me to work in her then-newly-opened digital reading site. in providing an opportunity she changed my life for the better, even though she'd protest if i called her my mentor. but knowing what i know now, it sure does get me to further appreciate all the helpful people around me - and all the helpful people i haven't met yet!

i don't have a star rating system for this book account but i will say this book has climbed up fast into my favorites list. thanks so much for making such a daunting topic seem so much less intimidating, so much more human.

I've constantly heard the advice, "Get a mentor!" Or when I hear successful people talk, they always say something like, "My success wouldn't have been possible without my mentor, [crazy successful person]!!"

So when I saw this cover and the tagline, I was SO excited. And the book exceeded my expectations!

The author got granular about what mentorship even LOOKS like in the modern era (spoiler alert: it isn't finding your Yoda and having him be your guiding light for years and years and years), but rather, modern mentorship is much smaller and much easier to obtain than that.

Step-by-step actions are laid out throughout the book for anyone that has a huge amount of connections to someone like me who knows, maybe... like... three people.

If you've ever been curious about finding a "mentor" or essentially finding people to help you achieve your goals, definitely give this book a try!
