"Not Here to Stay Friends" is the YA version of several popular books with similar storylines: girl joins Bachelor-like reality TV show and realizes her feelings for her best friend. This book centers around Sloane, who has flown out to California to spend the summer with her long-time friend, Liam. When Liam's hotshot Hollywood dad needs another girl to participate in his teenage version of "The Bachelor", Sloane agrees to go on the show as a favor. However, as she gets further along in the process, both Sloane and Liam realize that their growing feelings for each other can't be denied.

I enjoyed the YA bent on this storyline, and thought the budding relationship between Liam and Sloane was sweet and fun. Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC. All opinions are my own.

What a fun, adventurous YA rom-com! Sloane and Liam have been long distance friends since his dad moved their family from Knoxville to LA. Finally, after years of their friendship taking place over the phone, Sloane finds herself able to visit Liam for the summer to start their best summer ever... Until she finds out Liam has accepted a job as a PA for a reality spin off, (can we take a second to appreciate the hilarious acronym of the show: AWFLL??) that his dad is producing, and suddenly Sloane finds herself in the spotlight.
This story was such a breath of fresh air. It hit me with the pang of nostalgia of being a teenager that doesn't know what to say or how to feel. Kaitlyn Hill did a fantastic job sharing the inner workings of a teenager's mind, and I loved the split perspective of Sloane and Liam. Overall, this was a great, quick read! I'll be looking for more of Hill's work in the future.

Thanks so much to NetGalley for giving me an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I gave this book 5 star, though honestly 4.5 is probably more accurate. I really liked how this book alternated between Sloane's and Liam's perspectives. I always love when a book lets me see what both characters are thinking. Sloane and Liam's journey is so sweet and fun that I don't even care how unrealistic the book's premise is. I also LOVE how much the women in this book support each other! It would have been so easy to make the other people in the competition super cutthroat and terrible, but instead they are kind, loving, and supportive towards each other. The two things that bothered me about this book, and the reason it is not a true 5-star book in my mind are: 1) The parent's in this book SUCK! They are the absolute worst to their kids and show zero growth or remorse throughout the story, and yet we are supposed to believe that by the end the relationships are mending. 2) The climax of the book gets a little ridiculous. As I say, the whole premise is unrealistic, but the 3 or so chapters dedicated to the climax really pushes my suspension of disbelief. That said, the final two chapters make for a very sweet and satisfying resolution, so I can mostly over look that flaw.

All in all, this is a really cute friends-to-lovers YA book. I will definitely be recommending in the future.

What happens when you have long-distance best friends, a favorite tv show come to life as a dating show, and an unlikeable star? So much good stuff! Aspen needs to rehab his image, and this dating show is a great way to do that. Sloane is setting off on her first LA adventure, meeting up with her long-distance best friend, Liam. Liam has reluctantly taken a job working for his father's company on the set of a new reality dating show. They all get roped into spending a few summer weeks together, but really, what's the worst that could happen?

Whoooo! This book was amazing! It started with big If The Shoe Fits vibes, which I also love, but had it's own twists and turns. If you love friends to lovers, self-realization, and maybe being the drama a little bit, this book is for you! The characters were all really well written, and I appreciated the relationships they had with each other as well as with other side characters. The group of girls participating in the reality show was confusing at times, but as we got down to a core group, it was lovely to see how they bonded and interacted.

AND LET ME TELL YOU! That ENDING!! Exactly what we needed. Chef's kiss.

Thank you NetGalley, Random House Children's Books, and Kaitlyn Hill for sharing this fantastic summer read with me!
