Sloane planned on spending the summer before senior year with her childhood best friend, Liam, exploring Los Angeles. Instead, she ends up staring on a reality TV dating show that Liam’s dad produces. On screen, Sloane is trying to win the heart of television star. Off screen, she may be a little bit in love her best friend.

The concept of this was a little ridiculous for me, but once I got past the idea of a high school dating show, I really enjoyed this young adult romance. I loved the dual POV of Sloane and Liam. The audiobook was great!

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the review copy in exchange for an honest review!

I think I might be "growing out" of YA Romance because I just could not get into this book, I was so excited to read it and I loved how it was dual POV but I think I just couldn't empathize with the characters. I loved the setting and how the story started and but when I get to the middle it fell apart for me.

Late to the party on this one… again! Thankfully grad school is almost over.

Best friends since they were kids, Sloane and Liam have kept in touch despite the distance. It’s now the summer before their senior year of high school and Sloane is heading to LA to visit. Unfortunately, Liam is stuck working as a PA on his father’s new reality television series and Sloane gets roped in last minute as a contestant.

As things progress, Sloane and Liam begin to notice their feelings for the other. Liam and Sloane are so freaking cute!’

THIS WAS SO STINKING CUTE. I feel like this was everything I could want from a YA romcom. I loved the take on reality tv dating shows, and I loved the friendship turned romance between Liam and Sloane. It just felt like such a feel good love story. Seriously so adorable, swoon worthy, overall such a good time! I think I'm running out of adjectives to describe this one lol

This book was really cute! It started out a little bit on the slower side, but once it picked up I found it hard to put down!

Sloane has been best friends with Liam forever, but they haven’t seen each other in a few years since he moved from TN allll the way to LA after his parents divorced. But she’s visiting him in LA for the summer!! they’ll be able to do all the stuff they’ve been planning for yearssss!!

Until she finds out he’ll be busy every day because he’ll be working on the set of the Bachelor-esque show his dad is producing... the upside is that the show is about finding a girlfriend for the lead actor from a drama series the besties obsess over…

So Sloane naturally wants to go to set with Liam!! And of course gets coerced into actually being on the show lol things escalate quickly

This book follows Sloane’s journey on the show, getting to know Aspen, the star of their show, and the awkwardness of dating someone 24 other girls are also dating (especially when it’s in front of your childhood best friend who also got hot since you saw him last)

And I don’t wanna give it ALL away, but I’ll just say if you like friends to lovers, this one is for you!!

Kaitlyn Hill’s writing is so funny and her romances are so well paced, I couldn’t recommend her books more

Pros: Friends to lovers
Childhood best friends to lovers
Teen bachelor esque
Girl Power Unite
MC want to be a write (love that)
Best friend designs MC a writing desk

Cons: Literally nothing. I loved and adored this book! .

Other thoughts: Phenomenal main character who doesn’t take anything from anyone. She was vocal when something happened in the relationship that she didn’t like and I rarely see that so it was really refreshing to read that.

Not Here to Stay Friends was a cute story that was very similar to the Bachelor mixed in with Friends-to-lovers. I’m not usually a huge fan of friends-to-lovers but this one got to me. Super cute.

First, thank you so much to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC of this book.

As with anything Kaitlyn writes, this book was absolutely amazing! It was so fun and cute. I couldn't put it down! I don't typically read all in one sitting, but I did with this one. If I hadn't been a fan before, this one would've sealed the deal. Katlyn is an instabuy for me!

This was so much fun, omfg. I loved Kaitlyn Hill's debut, and I was so excited for this and it didn't disappoint. Sloane and Liam were so great, the plot was fantastic and I inhaled this in almost one sitting. You give me a book that Bachelor-esque I'm sold. While I don't watch the show(s) you give me a book with this plot, Im sold.
Not to mention the twist that plays out in the end of this book - *chef's kiss* it was perfect. I was such a fan.

Thanks to publisher and netgalley for the arc!

Super cute fun friends to more high school romcom set against backdrop of a teen bachelor reality show with star of an the oc/riverdale esque show as the bachelor! The chemistry was there with Liam & Sloane. They were super cute and liked seeing how their relationship changed. Just wish we had way more of them alone crossing lines. We barely had any time with them in book as a couple/or more.

This YA book to a quirky friends to lovers story that made me laugh for a majority of the story.
The awkwardness but self aware ness of the characters was refreshing. Definitely a reread.

“A few weeks. One little reality show. That’s all this will be, in the end. What’s the worst that could happen?”

Seventeen-year-old Sloane McKinney is ready for the rest of her life to start. She’s ready to move to LA, get into a stellar screenwriting program, and become a famous screenwriter. But first, she’s spending the summer before senior year in California, reuniting with her childhood best friend Liam Daniels for Sloane and Liam’s Summer of Fun. Except Liam has gotten a job as a production assistant for his dad’s new teen reality dating show, Aspen Woods’s Future Leading Lady—and when it turns out the show is one contestant short, Sloane is brought in as the perfect last-minute addition. Suddenly, both Liam and Sloane are mixed up in a whirlwind of reality TV drama as they start to realize that their very platonic relationship might not be so platonic after all. With their hearts on the line, can they figure out a way to deal with the drama both on and off the screen?

So obviously, I love reality TV books. And I also love romance. And I definitely love Kaitlyn Hill’s writing. So a book that combines all of these? Of course I’m gonna love it! And love it I did! I read NOT HERE TO STAY FRIENDS over the course of one day because it was extremely difficult to put down. Hill combines so many unexpected twists with her trademark humor and impossible-not-to-love characters that there’s no way this book could be anything but a masterpiece. Plus, it’s dual-narrated (cue happy Wendy squeals) with a fantastic friends-to-lovers relationship…I could go on and on about this book all day! Suffice it to say that NOT HERE TO STAY FRIENDS is just one of those books that makes your heart happy—and that’s that!

Content Warnings: Divorce, strong language, hospitalization, infidelity, emotional abuse

Not Here to Stay Friends is a YA romance that’s just tons of fun. It follows besties Liam and Sloane, whose summer is turned upside down when Sloane becomes a contestant on the reality show Liam’s dad is the producer of. To add to this already fun premise, the show is like The Bachelor but with teens, and the the suitor is the swoony lead actor of a teen drama Sloane is obsessed with. It’s such a a wacky setup, but this book is self aware. Sloane and Liam constantly point out the strangeness of the situation, when they’re not too busy giving some of the sweetest friends to lovers content I’ve read this year.

My only issue with this is one I had in Kaitlyn Hill’s debut, although it’s less present here. These bigger issues, like how hard it is to be taken seriously as a woman in the writing industry, and emotionally abusive parents, are brought up, but never given the time they deserve. They aren’t handled poorly, but they don’t need to be handled at all. It’s not as heavy handed as her first book, but it would take me out of the story. Still, this was such a sweet romance and a fun premise. Teenagers will be happy with this, and I can’t wait to read what Kaitlyn Hill does next!
