Recently, I accepted a position as a supervisor at a new company. It has been years since I was in a position like this, so I read this book to refresh myself in good people managing skills. This book offers numerous tips and tricks and frameworks to help with managing the people you have and engaging them in their daily interactions. It was a great refresher to people management classes I took in college and gave me the confidence to walk in on my first day as a great manager.

I enjoyed reading this book as it gave me an insight into some techniques that should be applied from a manager perspective, to be successful and give another employee what they need from you. There were some key tips on how to delegate, how to conduct reviews and how to support another individual as they are growing within their own career.

Towards the end of the book I started to lose focus as I felt more of the disciplinary actions wouldn't sit within my own role, rather a HR role, so I feel from my perspective this potentially let the book down. Would recommend for any upcoming managers or someone who feels they need more guidance to support their team!

This is the 5th edition, How To Manage People, I found this edition to be more concise in the material presented. The book includes discussion on management types, managing teams, and improving engagement. I found valuable tips in enhancing my management skills to be a more effective manager.

I have read several of the books from The Creating Success series by Kogan Page publishing and highly recommend adding them to your business/professional library.

Thank you NetGalley and Kogan Page for the eARC.

This is an informative book full of information that any manager can use, whether they have been a manager for 20-days or 20-years it’s always good to review the best ways to help your team thrive. Research has shown that people don’t leave their jobs…they leave their manager or management team. With employee retention being a main focus of every industry it would be a huge benefit to actually teach people how to be a manager. This book breaks down multiple concepts and presents them in an easy to understand and easy to use manner.

Nobody wants to be “that” manager who can’t keep employees and is unable to lead those few who stay.

5 Stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
