I'll be honest with you, while I am very interested in social media and how it can and should be used in the workplace to further business interests, I have to say I wasn't all that impressed with this book. It isn't the subject matter that is the issue, nor is it the information that is given in the book that I wasn't impressed with. The subject matter and the information were valuable. It was the presentation I wasn't overly fond of.

As a general rule, when one is giving out a lot of information, one breaks it up a bit with tables, charts, or even illustrations. While there was at least one, it just seemed like this book was set up to simply info-dump on the reader and allow them to sort out the information for themselves. Not the best way to handle a good, informative book. I would have even settled for a joke or funny quote or two simply to break up the monotony of information.

Another thing - the myths are not numbered, yet are referred to constantly as Myth 2 or Myth 26... this caused me a lot of confusion as I wasn't sure what myth I was actually on number-wise. I knew the title of the myth, but not what number it was in the book.

All in all, the information was good but the presentation just wasn't for me.

It’s hard to write a book about social media. The print publishing process is so long compared to the pace of change on platforms. So, it’s good that this book focusses more on the principles of social media usage rather than on the different platforms.

If you need help trying to get someone to buy into a different approach to social media in business than the ‘post it and they will come’ philosophy, recommend they read this book.

An okay book with a basic good/bad view of social media. The author made some valid points but nothing earth shattering in the pages. Overall a decent amount of advice that is easy to understand.

An interesting analytical look at Social Media and the misconceptions surrounding it. Discussing 28 different myths about social media, including the trustworthiness of online sources, availability and visibility, sharing online and audience reach.

The author dispels common misunderstandings or myths surrounding social media, providing evidence and statistics to display factual information (Although some of these statistics are several years old, which in an industry as rapidly-growing as social media can be considered quite out of date)

While I'm sure many people, especially those who work with media will be aware of these already, however this is still an interesting read and gives unique talking points and information which could be helpful to a business.
