Before requesting this, I did not think I was aware of Sarah Andersen and her comics. However, I did a little Instagram search and realized I have in fact seen her comics all over social media! She has a very distinct character art style, which carried over into her collection Cryptid Club.

One thing that could have made this collection better is a consistent storyline. The comics jump around so much that it was hard to get a flow going while reading. Even so, some of these little comics genuinely made me laugh out loud. Other ones I still thought were funny. A few were just okay or I didn’t understand (probably a me issue, honestly). It definitely is a niche comic book but I think that fans of Sarah Andersen would enjoy this!

Embark on a whimsical journey into the quirky realm of the mysterious and monstrous with Sarah Andersen's "Cryptid Club." This graphic novel is a delightful escapade into the secret social lives of creatures like Mothman and the Loch Ness Monster, and it's as entertaining as it is thought-provoking.

The synopsis promises a peek into the lives of elusive beings, and Andersen delivers with her signature wit and charm. The illustrations are a visual feast, capturing the essence of each cryptid's personality and quirks. Andersen's artistic style shines, making every page a treat for the eyes. The humor is a standout feature, providing chuckles and guffaws as the cryptids navigate their own unique challenges, including dodging cameras and mastering the art of social evasion.

The overarching theme of celebrating differences is woven into the narrative, reminding readers that it's our idiosyncrasies that make us truly beautiful. Andersen's exploration of cryptids as misunderstood beings mirrors the human experience, and it serves as a gentle reminder that uniqueness should be cherished.

However, let's address the minor flaws. While the humor is generally on point, there were moments where it felt slightly forced, and a few jokes seemed to miss the mark. Additionally, the pacing could be a bit uneven at times, with some segments feeling rushed while others lingered longer than necessary.

What elevates "Cryptid Club" is its subtle exploration of the darker side of human nature. The book prompts readers to question whether, indeed, humans are the worst kind of "monsters." It adds a layer of depth that makes the reader pause and reflect amidst the laughter.

In conclusion, "Cryptid Club" is a delightful romp through the world of mythical creatures, offering laughs, heart, and a dash of introspection. Sarah Andersen has crafted an imaginative and visually appealing graphic novel that is sure to resonate with fans of humor and the supernatural. While it may have some minor hiccups, the overall experience is well worth the read. Join the club, and let the cryptid chaos commence! 🌲👻📖

Those short comics were hilarious. Who said monsters didn't have issues of their own ? Sarah Andersen managed to make them relatable and almost human. A cute book for the monster loving reader.

‘Cryptid Club’ by Sarah Andersen is a collection of comics featuring monsters we aren’t sure exist.

Featuring creatures like Slenderman, Kraken, Bigfoot and others, we see the kind of social issues that we face. From awkward dating to not wanting to be around people, to taking terrible photos, this is a fun way to laugh at ourselves and find some new creatures to relate to.

I’ve liked the Sarah’s Scribbles comics by this author, and this was a fun and funny collection featuring some great characters.

Fans of Sarah Andersen will be delighted by this collection of comics inspired by the frightening cryptid’s we all know and love (or fear). A quick, lighthearted read that brings A great balance between learning about these creatures, but not being scared of them in their silliness. Andersen also nicely mixes in the classics, like Bigfoot and vampires, with more modern creatures, such as Slenderman and the Fresno nightcrawlers, to give a wider variety of information to her readers.

The illustrations, while simple, elevate her descriptions and make the creatures pop off the page. It’s a fun and adorable collection that will be a staple around Halloween.
