What an adorable book! The illustrations are vibrant and likely to keep young readers (as well as older readers) engaged. I like the fact that the story rhymed, and it's message is a good one for kids to learn: how to deal with grumpy clams (or people!). The font is easy to read, and there aren't too many words per page to overwhelm beginning readers. It was a bit odd that the author used "perplexed" (which is a more advanced word), but adults wouldn't be stumped by it.

This rhyming picture book tells the story of a mermaid who gets trapped by a grumpy clam. She learns that cheering someone up when they are grumpy can be a lot of fun. The font is large and accessible, with not too many words on a page. The author does use the word perplexed which is kind of an unnecessarily long and complex word, but otherwise the text of the book is quite easy to read and comprehend. It would be a fun book to read to young children that they would eventually be able to read themselves. I would recommend this book for children in the age 2-7 range, Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book!

Thank you to the publisher for the eArc.

A short and sweet book about how to not judge people who are grumpy.
