I read a lot of thrillers and can sometimes figure out what will happen after the first chapter. What She Knew did not fit that bill. It kept my interest throughout the pages and I enjoyed a couple of the twists. Stephanie was likable but at times gullible. The narration was stellar and it was a joy to listen to. I will be on the lookout for Ms. Rijks next book.

Years ago while at university, Stephanie’s roommate went missing. An unsolved case that left Stephanie struggling throughout her life. Although she is married (to her former professor) and has 2 children, she never has come to terms with Allison’s disappearance. When a reporter enters into her life and the life’s of those that knew Allison, more questions arise and Stephanie begin a questioning those closest to her. Although fairly unbelievable, this is an entertaining thriller that leaves the reader guessing about what really happened. I enjoyed it and definitely recommend!

This checked all the boxes for me for a thriller book. It wasn't over the top, although I do love that, it's far better when I can still sleep at night. My over active imagination tends to take over most of the time. This was not terribly suspenseful, but I still felt it was a good read and I did enjoy it. I would recommend it to anyone wanting a light suspense book!

What She Knew by Miranda Rijks

Stephanie’s university roommate, Allison, disappeared without a trace 9 years ago and a documentary researcher has begun investigating her disappearance. Stephanie begins to reevaluate what happened to her friend. Stephanie is now married to her former professor and is a stay-at-home mom to two kids.

The story is told by Stephanie in the Now and Then format in the book. There was some things in the mystery that was easy to figure out but then there was some twists that did surprise me a bit. Stephanie did not marry her professor husband until after she graduated.

Ella Lynch did a good job narrating the story. This was a 3.5 star read for me. I recommend this book it is a good thriller with some twists that you are not expecting. I want to read more from this author.

What She Knew by Miranda Rijks is a well-crafted mystery with enough red herring and twists to keep my engaged from beginning to end!
Stephanie and Oliver have the perfect family, two children, a lovely home and Oliver’s respected job as a college professor. When a true crime reporter shows up inquiring about Alison, Stephanie’s college roommate who disappeared 10 years before, he awakens Stephanie’s concern about her roommate’s fate and she cooperates with him to solve the mystery.
Stephanie’s character seemed a bit naïve and disingenuous, but she also showed surprising strength under pressure. She ended up being a likable protagonist.
This turned out to be an entertaining suspense story, as always, written in style by Ms. Rijks.
I enjoyed the newly released audiobook, which was skillfully narrated by Ella Lynch!!

Thank you to @Dreamscape Audio and NetGalley for the advanced audiobook. This is my honest review.

From the beginning it felt too obvious that the boyfriend or husband was involved in some way, so the story felt a little tired, even though I liked the character and narrator. I was relieved the bad guy wasn’t just her husband but the ending also felt a tad too much. Shrug.

Stephanie & Oliver have the perfect suburban life; two kids, nice house, good family & friends, but when a reporter starts investigating the disappearance of Stephanie's collage roommate it quickly becomes apparent that some people will stop at nothing to leave the past behind them.

This one jumped right in but then dragged a lot for me in the middle. It was pretty predictable and not very exciting. None of the characters felt especially authentic or endearing. The end mostly redeemed itself by wrapping up with a bit of drama and action, but overall, not my favorite. However, the writing was good so I would try another book by this author.

Stephanie is a young mother of two, married to an art history professor in a London suburb. She is studying to be a solicitor, but keeping it from her husband, as he wants her to be a full-time mom. Her flat-mate's disappearance ten years ago still haunts her. When a TV journalist asks to interview her about the case, she begins to have nightmares again and starts to wonder if the right person was convicted of her presumed death. She begins to suspect her husband of keeping secrets. This story seems at first to be a boilerplate type of mystery. But, as one continues to read, it becomes more complex and keeps you riveted. It details her struggles as she tries to decide whether she can trust her husband, making one realize it's not an easy decision one makes in an instant. A good story with believable characters.

The story was a little lackluster in the suspense department, but it was intriguing. Centering the story around a cold case made the story interesting and sucked me in. I wish there would have been a little more suspense for main character Stephanie, but this was a decent quick read.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.
Nine years ago, Stephanie’s roommate Allison went missing and presumed dead. Now married to her former tutor Oliver and expecting their 3rd child. Stephanie is contacted by a researcher who brings up the cold case and rehashes all the bad memories & obsession Stephanie still carries.
Dual timelines go back & forth from Allison & Stephanie's time at college, to the present day investigation until the ultimate reveal of what happened to Allison.
Many secrets are discovered that Stephanie doesn’t want to face.
Though there was an unexpected twist involved, for the most part I felt like I knew where this was going. Overall, I still did enjoy the read

Another hit for me by Miranda Rijks. This psychological thriller is written in dual timelines. Stephanie’s best friend and flat mate, Alison, disappears in college and has never been found. Alison tried to contact Stephanie right before she disappeared to tell her something important but Stephanie didn’t meet with her. She has nightmares and continued guilt over this. When the nightmares finally disappear, a man contacts Stephanie and tells her he is looking for information for a true crime documentary on Alison. This is when things really take a terrible turn. Stephanie begins having nightmares again and starts receiving threatening letters warning her to stop looking into things. As we go through twists and turns in this book, no one is who they seem. This book kept me on the edge of my seat!

What She Knew is a psychological thriller that I really enjoyed listening to. I found it somewhat predictable, but it didn’t ruin the reading experience. It was a quick book, with not a great amount of depth. Easy to listen to and multitask.

Stephanie’s roommate, Allison, mysteriously vanishes and the crime is pinned on her boyfriend at the time.

Meanwhile, Stephanie gets pregnant with the new guy she’s seeing. They settle into a marriage and life together. She is pregnant with their 3rd child when a reporter comes to their door asking about Allison.

As the reporter does more digging Stephanie finds her husband acting more and more suspicious. He’s hiding things in the safe and lying to her about meetings.

Is the right man sitting in jail? The truth is finally revealed on a trip the couple takes and it nearly costs Stephanie her life.

From my perspective, there were people who were acting guilty from the very start and it gave some of it away early. I also didn’t like the piece of the plot with her husband “settling” for her.

This book started out promising, but just didn’t deliver for me. It seemed a little far fetched as far as the main character goes. Just didn’t work for me.

First published in print in July 2021, and now the audiobook is out as of July 2022.

This one starts off very intriguing with the smothering of a girl.

Stephanie and Oliver have been married for a while with 2 adorable children. Oliver was once her professor, but they didn't get together until after she graduated. Her friend and roommate, Alison, went missing while they were in college.
David, a true crime reporter, comes around asking questions. There are a few people close to Stephanie that don't want David to start digging, but Stephanie still has nightmares about ignoring her last call from Alison and she's ready for some answers.

Told by Stephanie and goes back and forth between now and then ~ this way kept me engaged and intrigued with the story line. I definitely had some inklings along the way about what was happening, but I didn't hate that I already figured some things out. One particular "twist" was so obvious even unseasoned mystery readers will be sure to figure it out. I was pleasantly surprised with a couple twists in there though.

Ella Lynch did a lovely job narrating for 8 hours and 7 minutes, easy listen at 2x.

This is not an unique plot by any means. I wasn't overly in love with Stephanie or the ending, but an enjoyable psychological and suspenseful read nonetheless. I have enjoyed Miranda's work before and I would definitely pick up a book by her again.

Stephanie’s life is a bit of a blur after her flatmate went missing.
The story is told in two different timelines, past and present. A unsolved mystery of what happened to Alison, and slowly discovering alongside Stephanie as she makes some disturbing discoveries.
Stephanie is married to Oliver and their relationship is not perfect like Stephanie thought. The story was very interesting and it had me in its grips till the very end. I hadn’t anticipated who was behind some things so it was astonishing.
I really liked the narrator, Ella Lynch. She kept me engaged to the story till the very end. I could feel the pain, and love in her tone. Loved it.

Special thanks to Netgalley and Dreamscape Media for the ALC.

What we have here is another book about roommates in college. One disappears and sometime in the future the other has to figure out what happened. Stephanie is the other. In the present she is one half of a truly unlikable couple. Her husband is creepy and controlling. He obviously grooms his student, seeing that she is weak and gullible, and marries her so she can basically be an incubator to his children. Stephanie forgets about the great guy she just started seeing and gets together with her barely former teacher. It may seem as if Stephanie would deserve some sympathy. But she is completely immature for her age and I don’t think I’ve ever read of a character that makes someone else’s disappearance more about herself. She is completely self-centered. The story itself is entertaining for a summer read. It won’t take you very long and you will be OK with these characters getting back some of what they gave.

'What She Knew' by Miranda Rijks, narrated by Ella Lynch

Thank you to NetGalley, Dreamscape Media and the author for a free audio version in exchange for my honest review.

The narrator was awesome, I really enjoyed listening to her. This was my first book by this author. I found it engaging from the very beginning of the story when Stephanie's college roommate disappears. She finally seems to be over her disappearance and is living a great life with her husband and two children. Things change when a researcher starts to investigate what happened to her friend.

This was a quick read and the suspense kept building until the final twist of the story. A great summer read. I look forward to reading more of her books.
