Many thanks to Netgalley, Outland Entertainment, and the author, for the ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I have to confess that I started this book without having read Vol. 01 and was lost! Hence I went back and read vol. 01. This volume continues the story of Salamandra, who is finally coming into her powers fully and wants to leave the island for good! She meets her grandfather and learns about her family a bit more! while Owen is struggling with his mother being ill! We are taken along on the ride with the duo trying to figure out how they can make their lives better.

The art style is distinct, dark and beautiful! It creates the effect of intrigue and urges you to keep on going.

I hope we get a vol. 03, I can't wait to find out what happens next.

The artwork for this graphic novel is definitely unique nor something you really see used. It kind of reminded me of the HBO series crashbox style of illustrating. There was so much to look at that it became overbearing and demanded your full attention.

True to its genre, this was a dark story about an island whose inhabitants can never leave. And adults are mysteriously gone or dead.

If you are into creepy, pick this one up for sure!

Thank you #NetGalley and Outland Entertainment for giving me the opportunity to read this.

I am a born and raised Mainer so when I saw this title, I was all about it! Hopeless, Maine has just added fuel to my love for graphic novels. I love when the art pairs so well with the text, and Hopeless, Maine is a brilliant example of just that!!

When I got this, I didn't notice it was the second part of the story, and because of that, I was pretty lost. I'm not knocking anything off for that, it's not the book's fault I hadn't read the first part, I'm just noting it in case anyone reading this wondered if you need to read Personal Demons first. The answer is yes, you do.
The art is interesting; sepia-toned, but with some color, which gives a dark, brooding feel, very spooky/creepy. The story seemed disjointed to me though, it jumped around abruptly, and it felt like parts were missing, like the scenes changed in the middle. The text is a bit stilted; it feels like an off translation, though that's not the case.
This is a slow-paced story with a lot of moodiness and otherworldly vibes that is absolutely gonna click with some people. It didn't entirely click with me, and some of that is on me for not having read the first part, but some of that is on the disjointedness of the story. 3.5 stars, rounded up to 4.

Hopeless, Maine is recommended and fantastic/magical use of the comics form. I would gladly add this book to my shelf and I know it would attract readers.

Una graphic novel con un grande potenzione, ad essere sincera non sapevo che ci fosse un primo volume e forse non ho appreso appieno tutta la storia, ma posso dirvi che l’ho letta con estrema tranquillità.

This eerie graphic novel was a real treat. Its melancholy art style, awash with muted yet lovely colors, conveys the difficult journey of growing up and getting to know oneself through a story that weaves magic and hauntings together beautifully.

'Hopeless, Maine' it's an interesting story. Although this is the second one, and I haven't read the first one, I would say that I understand pretty much of the story and the characters. The desperation and lost of hope are feelings that you will always found between the pages, but that's because of 'Hopeless, Maine' has such a good narrative.

A graphic novel about a magical orphan and her friend the undertaker’s son that live on a remote island in Maine. No one can leave and inhabitants are dying. The makings of a great gothic story.

The storyline was extremely slow to takeoff. The first chapter was stilted in the character interactions which made it difficult to determine who each person was. The following chapters were better. However, I’m jumping in on a second book so that may explain some of it.

Tried to read this but was immediately put off by poor design.
All art and text was pixelated and unclear. Proportions were off and this clearly was not for digital experience.
DNF cause of terrible Design.

Having not read the first volume, there was a lot here that I'm not familiar with. I love the comic medium however, so I decided to give it a try anyway.

The art is beautiful and dark. It's also a very distinct style from other comics, which definitely sets it apart in a positive way. The story itself is very mysterious. I'm sure some aspects would make more sense were I able to read the preceding volume. One note is that this story began as a webcomic, which means that this volume comes across as feeling very episodic at times, instead of feeling like a singular, smooth narrative. It moves around a bit, hits a few different big events, but seems to be more about the journey than an actual destination.

This one won't be for everyone, but I would love to read the first volume and see where Salamandra's life goes next. The atmosphere is what I loved the most about it, so I'd definitely like to see more of what Hopeless, Maine is like as a whole.

I had enjoyed the first book Hopeless, Maine I thought it was a great first issue of a new comic book. So when volume 2 was available to request I was super excited to read this. The art is really well done and I enjoyed the story line.
