I will always read a book with a plus-size FMC, but this plot was kind of scattered to me.
The narration was great.

I love books with plus sized characters but I don't want their entire story to be about being plus sized. Her whole personality was linked t it and I just couldn't get into the book to push past it.

I was really intrigued by the premise, but the attitude of the FMC kinda put me off a bit, i am quite over it, The plot was quite all over the place, was not sure on what it wanted to focus and it was quite frustrating to read that Percy seemed to be defined by her weight as her entire personality.

I was really excited for this book, and I know that if I had pushed beyond the beginning I think I would have liked it. Personally for me, the beginning was a bit too rocky.

Thank you to NetGalley and to the publisher for this arc in exchange for an honest review.

I had little expectations of this book, but it really impressed me. I found so much solace in Perci, who also grew up feeling like she hadn't found her place, nor ever would she.

This was a wonderful story, the audiobook was really well narrated, and I'm excited to read more from Sharon.

This book was so much fun!!

Not only was it well written with interesting characters and situations but the delightful narration by Elise Roth livened up the entire book to a whole new notch! Grandma Mimi definitely stole the show with her funny and sassy wise cracks and all chapters begin with a healthy dose of Mimi-ism.

I absolutely loved every minute of listening to this audiobook!

My thanks to NetGalley, the publisher Bookouture Audio and the author Sharon M. Peterson for the audio Arc of the book.

I really loved this book, and the audiobook narrator was fantastic I found the whole book amazing, funny, uplifting and heartwarming. I listened to it while I was gardening, and it made my gardening work more fun.

The story is about Perci, who has been dumped by her boyfriend, and the journey she goes on to find herself again. Along the way, she has to say no to a lot of people, and change her life to what she wants, rather than what everyone else wants for her. I loved watching her grow as a person, and becoming more confident.

This is a great book, which I highly recommend for anyone who wants a bit of lighthearted fun in their life, and an easy to read book that will help them feel warm and cosy inside.

Many thanks to the author, narrator, publisher and NetGalley for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

If you asked Perci Mayfield which song best summarized her life, she’d probably say, „When will my life begin?“. Already in her late twenties, she works for her father in a job she doesn’t like and still lets her mother decide what she wears, eats and who she dates. Only when she is dumped on live radio, does Perci finally find the courage to start standing up for herself and make some much-needed changes.

I don’t know how better to describe it, but after reading this book I just feel seen. Everyone who’s ever been judged, patronized and/or simply tried to live up to someone else’s expectations will inevitably recognize themselves in this book’s protagonist.
Perci is a kind and bubbly heroine you can’t help but love and root for. Witnessing how she emancipates herself from her parents step by tentative step and finds her own way in life is just amazing. Don’t get me wrong, her parents are by no means horrible people, but this book just goes to show that even if you are well-meaning you can still do a lot of harm.
I don’t know which relationship I love most – the sisterly bond Perci shares with Phee, her friendship with Matthias, the relationship with her grandma (who’s equal parts adorable and hilarious) or her blossoming romance with Nate.
This book is definitely a character-driven one and I not only appreciate how authentic all of them are, but also how much they grow over the course oft he story.
Also, the way the author tackles the subject of body-shaming/body positivity is just perfect.

If you are looking for a novel that’ll make you laugh, wince and swoon, „The Do-Over“ might be the perfect book for you.

Really good audio narration! I can really relate to our main character - she said a quite a few things that sounded like listening to myself and so I was rooting for her throughout.
I found the chapter titles being various sayings from Mimi a really sweet & fun touch! An enjoyable read!

This was really sweet. Lots to love about it all - the storyline was totally believable, the writing was good, and the narrator used the perfect amount of emotions to make it really believable, especially the writing about emotional reactions. Our MC was very easy to relate to, which made for a more enjoyable read. Definitely one I could see recommending.

First, thank you to NetGalley for the audio eArc of this book in exchange for a fair and unbiased review.

Sharon Peterson spoke to my soul!
Perci is a young woman trying to find her way in her mother's "perfect" world. She weighs too much, she is too loud, her clothes are too loud, she's not pretty enough, and her need to people please is WAY too much! She is stuck trying to live up to her mother's expectations, from her career choice to the clothes she wears to the man she is dating. But, thanks to the worlds worst dumping and her very best friend, Perci begins to change.
We have some great advice from Grandma Mimi, words that I now cling to. She starts to find herself and her voice. We see love and growth and some mistakes along the way.
But, in the end, not only does Perci find herself, but she learns to love those who she thought hated her.

Come to find out, even the ones who seem to have a "perfect" life have their own stories and their own troubles, in a world that is not so perfect.

Anyone going through any struggles of self and perfectionism ... you need to read this! It's much more fun than reading a self-help book!

Can I just say, everyone needs a Mimi in their lives.

This is the story of Perci who is just down on her luck. failed relationships, failed job aspirations, and an extremely strained relationship with her mother have all led to her making some rather unusual New Year's resolutions. Stop dating. Stop trying to lose weight. Stop working so hard. Stop trying to live up to unrealistic expectations. Stop trying to please her mother.

Of course as soon as she makes the list she meets extremely attractive next door neighbor, Nate. How could this not go wrong?

I really enjoyed my time with Perci. I loved the platonic relationship between her and her best friend Mathias. And of course her grandmother, Mimi, who just stole the whole show. The "Mimi-isms" that started every chapter were amazing and well placed within the narrative. Perci's relationship with her family felt relatable while still maintaining a level of comedy to alleviate the tone. This is a nice clean "romance" which is really more a book about finding yourself in your twenties and learning to make decisions for yourself and not your parents. I would highly recommend checking this one out and look forward to reading more from this author in the future.

Hey Shar Bear it's Clare Bear. I'll give you 5 out of 5 birds for The Do-Over. I received this audiobook from Netgalley in exchange for a honest review. This book had some strong vibes similar to The People We Meet on Vacation and Meet Me in the Margins. Even the cover is in the same ballpark. I thought this was a delightful listen and had me cheering on the characters and chastising some of them. I absolutely love Mimi the grandma and thought she was the star of the book. I thought it had a cute plot and flowed nicely. I didn't love all of the body talk and how food was portrayed throughout the book. Overall, it was a fun read that had me laughing and rooting for the happy ending.

At almost age 30, Percy is a mess. She lives in the shadow from her "perfect" younger sister and hyper-judgmental mother. And she experiences a rotten, very public breakup.

Life stinks and we experience Percy's self-deprecating talk and codependency. She placates to everyone's needs but her own.

Gratefully, her Grandmother Mimi is amazing, and her quips throughout the book kept me plugging away. (The "Mimi"-isms at the start of each chapter are hysterical).

All Percy needs is more confidence and the ability to tell her mom off and to be kinder to herself.

Then she meets Nate and Lila in her apartment complex and, over time, they teach her not to care about other people's opinions.

Lila is an oddball and helps Percy see the importance of being herself, and that people are drawn to us when we aren't trying hard. (Um, hello. A lot of us can relate to this life lesson)!

By the end, I was rooting for the "new Percy."

Special thanks to Bookouture Audio for an advanced listener copy of the audiobook. The narration was fantastic, and the plot was easy to follow while I multi-tasked around the house.

I've received this in an audio book format, and narrator Elise Roth's name must be mentioned in the first line. Wow, what a difference a fantastic voice actor makes! Thanks to her, I was watching a romantic comedy, instead of simply listening to a story.

Perci is a distant American cousin of Bridget Jones. She isn't actually, but you know what I mean. The situations she gets herself into made me laugh out loud. She talks too much, always the wrong things, her mother is a real btch, and she loses her boyfriend and job a few days apart. This book is full of hilarious characters: Perci's grandmother, Mimi steals the show with her pearls of wisdom.

I loved that there's a lot more to the "do-over" than finding love for Perci. She needs changes in her life in so many levels, and romance was only one of them.

Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture Audio for an Advance Review Copy.

I'm always a big fan of plus sized character representation. This book was super cute, witty and funny. I couldn't stop cracking up. The characters chemistry was just amazing, but Grandma Mimi just stole the show. 😂 Her character was phenomenal. Love her so much. 💖
