A Trip with Trouble by Diane Kelly is book #2 in the Mountain Lodge Mysteries series. Mountaintop Lodge owner Misty Murphy thinks having groups rent out all the rooms at her lodge makes a lot of sense. In this book the ladies of the Dangerous Curves Motorcycle Club check in to do some rides and enjoy the scenery. Things don't go as well as planned. Misty, her resident handyman Rocky Crowder and her assistant manager Brynn O'Reilly find themselves helping the local sheriff's department investigate a couple of major crimes. This story kept me guessing until the very end. I enjoyed seeing how the three amateur sleuths eliminated suspects off their list. I admire how Rocky manages to come up with unique ways to solve problems while Misty is really good at figuring out clues. I really enjoyed this book and I look forward to the next book in the series.

I’ve still got some summer books to read but I took a break for one with a little autumn in it. I really enjoyed the first book of this series so I knew I’d be reading more.

Kelly had created a really intelligent & capable middle aged protagonist, taking a risk at the dream of running her own lodge. She is also surrounded by helpful friends who are fellow business women. One of the most unique things is you get short chapters from the viewpoint of Misty’s cat, Yeti, sprinkled in. This adds a charming levity.

This is another solid addition to the series. I liked having so many female suspects! This book will make you want to go to the mountains, go on a road trip & to just plain explore. The lush descriptions really take you into an autumnal wonderland! I look forward to more in the series.

I was delighted to get a chance to read an ARC of #ATripwithTrouble by Diane Kelly through #NetGalley. I had been fortunate enough to read an ARC of the first book in The Mountain Lodge Mysteries series and enjoyed it, and am happy to say that I enjoyed this second book in the series even more.
Kelly has written an intriguing mystery with a couple of crimes within the pages that might or might not be linked. The main characters remain relatable and true-to-life, and the new characters - members of a motorcycle club for women - provide many examples of strong female characters, including those in their later years. Reading of such women is rewarding in and of itself, and reminds us that while we may be of a certain age, life still has plenty of adventure to be had.
The mysteries themselves are detailed and complex, with plenty of suspects to consider. The setting is rich in its detail, with the added locations visited by the bikers adding to the appeal.
Kelly is an excellent writer and I look forward to reading more in this series.

The second book in the Mountain Lodge Mysteries was just as good as the first. And as with the first there's a lot packed into these pages. The fact that a women's motorcycle club is staying at the lodge was interesting. Same as I said about the first book - great setting, the characters are three-dimensional. Trying to figure out who the killer was wasn't easy. I had a lot of fun reading this one and I'm looking forward to reading many more in this series.

Misty, Yeti, Rocky, and Brynn are back. It's the beginning of the Fall season in Beech Mountain. It's a great place for seeing colorful Fall scenery. A women's motorcycle group called Dangerous Curves is coming to stay at Mountaintop Lodge. It's not just going to be any regular trip though. It's a trip with trouble.

The title of this book is very accurate. Not only is there a murder but other troubling incidents occur. There is a lot going on that Misty must work through.

A Trip With Trouble brings the cozy feels from the beginning. It was just what I needed. Then when the new characters arrive they are introduced so naturally everything feels right. Diane Kelly does a great job making them feel like full parts of the story. They all have different personalities and were likeable.

The murder doesn't occur for a while but the book is fun to read so it isn't a problem. You might not even notice because of suspicious characters and other activity. I like the interactions between Rocky and Misty. I like Brynn's little quips. There is a great scene with Patty and I love her resourcefulness. I hope we get more scenes with Patty and the diner the next time around.

Besides the murder there is something else going on that may or may not have to do with the mystery. But there is definitely trouble. Misty and Brynn are not afraid and they definitely take charge. I don't know how realistic law enforcement's role is but I thought the interactions were fun and stress free.

A Trip With Trouble is a quick, enjoyable read. The setup is a little different from other cozies. The overall feeling is light and fun and a great second installment in the series.

This is a series that I truly enjoy. There's a lot going on, but it's fairly easy to keep everything and everyone straight. There's a touch of romance without getting hot and heavy. There's a good dose of humor with interesting characters and a mystery with no ready answer.

Witty and well-written, I look forward to the next installment when it's ready!

Thank you to Diane Kelly, St. Martin's Press and NetGalley for an advance review copy.

I really enjoyed this second book of the series. It was great to have two separate mysteries within one book. It kept the story moving at a decent pace and kept me engaged. This series continues to get better with each book! Thank you tp Netgalley and the Publisher for a chance to read this book early!

In the second book of Diane Kelly's Mountain Lodge Mysteries, Misty, Brynn and Rocky are back for another adventure. Misty's lodge business has picked up with a booking of a female motorcycle club for a week. She takes a break from work and along with Brynn, goes on a ride in the beautiful Blueridge Mountains with the club but their ride takes a dark turn when one of the members doesn't meet up with them and is later found dead.

This is a good cozy mystery that cozy readers will enjoy. The author paints a picture with her description of the Blueridge Parkway and surrounding area along with a well-crafted mystery where suspects abound. If you like cozy mysteries, then you need to check this one out.

Please note: I was given a copy of this book from the publisher through Netgalley.com. All opinions expressed are my own.

Mix a new Mountain Lodge owner (Misty Murphy) with a group of women recreational motorcyclists (Dangerous Curves Motorcycle Club) and what can happen? Pure fun for the reader, but sadly the murder of the tail gunner (last rider in the group). Kelly does a good job bringing the different characters, including the beauty of the Blue Ridge Parkway, to life and engaging the reader with Misty and the hotel handyman hunk. This is a quick cozy mystery read that allows the reader to escape reality while solving the whodunit. Disclaimer: I received a copy through Net Galley, but any thoughts in this review are my own.

This is the second book in the Mountain Lodge Mystery series by Diane Kelly. Misty is still going strong running her inn in the mountains. She is hosting a Women’s motorcycle group. Each one has a different personality and reason for riding. One of the members is killed and the hunt is on. Misty works to figure out who did it. I enjoyed the characters in the book and Misty’s figuring out who did it. I enjoyed the short chapters about her cat too. This was a nicely written book and I enjoyed it.

Misty is hosting a group of women motorcycle riders, and she's thrilled to have a full house at her new mountain top resort.
One of the riders isn't who she says she is, and before long Misty finds herself wondering if one of her guests is a murderer.
I like this new series and find the characters easy to like and relate to.
I'm looking forward to reading more in this series.

A big thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for the ARC. I am voluntarily reviewing this book. This is the 2nd in a series. It reads well as a stand alone. I have not read the first but it wasn't needed. This is a cute, cozy mystery. I liked the characters and the pets Yeti and Molasses. A fun read 3.5 stars

This was a pretty good read. I give it 3 1/2 stars. I liked the characters. The main ones had distinct personalities. The setting sounds like a great place to visit; it also made me long for fall and the changing leaves. The mysteries were intriguing . I suspected the murderer but had no idea of the means and opportunity.
I enjoy the developing relationships in the four main characters and look forward to reading more about them in the next books.
I received an Advance Review Copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

Misty has filled her mountain lodge with a women's motorcycle club looking to enjoy the fall colors of North Carolina. Unfortunately the week gets off to a bad start with strange phone calls and unexpected visitors. When a death occurs Misty enlists her friends to see that justice is done. Thoroughly enjoyable.

The second Mountain Lodge Mystery from Diane Kelly takes readers for a ride with The Dangerous Curves Motorcycle Club, 22 women motorcycle riders who take over Misty’s lodge for a week’s stay. The author creates fun-loving characters, and exciting descriptions of riding through the North Carolina mountains before the club’s leader is killed in an accident.

When the accident turns out to be murder, Misty quickly begins investigating. Ms. Kelly concocts an intriguing mystery with all the elements required for a nicely paced cozy. And what’s fun is the author’s creation of chapters from Yeti’s perspective spread throughout the book. Yeti is Misty’s feline pet who keeps an eye out for activity around the lodge. Yeti’s description of the motorcycles arriving at the lodge is priceless.

I received a copy from Netgalley in exchange for an unbiased review. It was more of a 3.5 star review but I'm feeling good today so why not round up. I didn't read book one but that didn't get in the way. The book is divided between Misty, the owner of the Mountain Lodge (In the North Carolina mountain region so nice setting there) and her cat Yeti. To be honest I could do without Yeti as it adds very little but at least it's not talking animals. Mostly Yeti is there to let the reader see things that Misty and her friends don't.

An all-female biker group has booked out the lodge for the week. There's a set of twins (one of whom rides behind her sister as she's vision impaired), a tall secretive one(Katie), the young reckless one (Ericka) one step from being kicked out and Reyna and Gerri, the older leaders of the pack. Gerri's husband's family show up, her stepson and his wife and her husband's ex. The son and the ex-wife are money hungry (for all the money left to Gerri) but the step daughter in law is more concerned with her kids and on secret good terms with Gerri. Add into this motorcycle thieves and mysterious vans spying on businesses you have several clues and red herrings for when the murder happens.

All in all the mystery and the red herrings worked well enough (though wasn't enough to lead me away from the obvious killer because well they were just that). Still Misty, Rocky and their friends are engaging enough. I did enjoy it.

Did I have quibbles? Sure. I always say in cozy mysteries I can only get on board if the cops are friendly/involved with the sleuth and it's a hard no if they hate the protagonist. IN this they are friendly, maybe too friendly since it's not some local cop. It's someone who really doesn't know Misty and it's like why is he so free with information? aw well, that's part and parcel of amateur detectives I suppose.

The ending was a bit of a stretch but I can look past that too. I'd read more of this series.

Misty Murphy is delighted to have the ladies of the Dangerous Curves Motorcycle Club as guests at her Mountaintop lodge. When Gerri, the leader of the group, fails to appear after a ride, Misty, her assistant Brynn and the club members conduct a search party. Unfortunately, they discover Gerri's body - murder or accident? Does Gerri's relationship with her husband's family have anything to do with her death? Or does it involve a member using an assumed name? Or is the ex husband of another member involved? Misty is determined to uncover the murderer before the women leave.

I like this second installment of the Mountain Lodge Mysteries as much as I liked the first one. I really like the character of Misty, a woman in her fifties running a mountaintop lodge. She's smart, capable, compassionate, and well-drawn. The supporting cast of her assistant, and the woman who owns the diner next door, and the love interest/handyman is a likeable crew.

The lodge setting provides a great rotating cast for murders to play out among. I was sad about who the victim was in this case, but that made me care more about the murderer being caught. The plotting is good, and I just have two hesitations about this story. One is that there are so many crimes happening--along with a pretty large cast of characters to keep track of--that I feel like it's a little over stuffed. Just a little. The second hesitation is Yeti the cat. Lord, I'm a cat lover, but this cat does not need its own chapters. And it's weird that we're inside Yeti's head, though the chapters aren't in first person (even though the rest of the book is told first person by Misty). A couple of times, Yeti witnesses something that's pertinent to the story when Misty isn't around, so I guess that's his purpose. But it's not enough. These chapters break up the story and frustrate me. It feels a bit lazy. It's not like Yeti can communicate what he sees, so it doesn't help Misty solve the crimes. It just gives the reader a bit more info. Not worth it!

Overall, though, a super enjoyable read.

I love cozy mysteries, and this new series is sweet and lighthearted - although it is about serious topics like murder and starting over again in life after divorce.

The murder(s) in these books are not descriptive, although I was sad to lose this particular character; I liked her grit and how she lived her life even after tragic loss. The Whodunnit was obvious, but then I found myself following a red herring convinced I was wrong to begin with; if murder can be fun, that was a fun, deceptive twist.

I love the setting of these books - the mountains of North Carolina, and because of recent trips to that area myself I found myself nodding along when certain sites were mentioned, having a genuine picture of the locations in my mind. I also love the idea of starting life over as an innkeeper in such a beautiful area. Something about the stories capture and keep the attention.

All in all, I love the language of the book. There is no bad language or gory descriptions to put off the reader. I look forward to reading more in this series of cozy mysteries!

This is a very enjoyable cozy read! I’ve read another book by this author and again I was impressed! The characters, setting, and plot were well thought out. It kept me guessing until the end! I also very much enjoyed the humor throughout the book. I can’t wait for the next one!
