Such an amazing follow-up to Kagen the Damned (as expected!)! The world building continues to be amazing and the plot moves along really well. I can’t wait to see what follows in the next installment. I am, however, very disappointed that I won’t be able to obtain a hc past Kagen, as I’m a hardback collector and prefer to have copies of books that I’m keeping in hc.

The sequel to Kagen the Damned. In this book, Kagen is hiding from emissaries of the Witch King, a mysterious figure who seeks to silence Kagen before he can reveal the Witch Kings true identity.

I really love Jonathan Maberry’s writing and I mostly enjoy this series but this book was just too long. It’s the middle book in a trilogy so we know that the big things won’t get wrapped up and this just dragged things out unnecessarily. There was a lot of repetition. I wish they’d cut at least a third of the book out.

Not as interesting as the first book. The world building is as exquisite as ever, but the story line is a bit predictable. Of course the Emperor would turn the world upside down for Kagen and of course the twins would do what they could to thwart the man who ordered the murder of their mother and siblings. What I want to know is how Kagen’s brother became so evil.

In-depth review and public article to come but I loved this book as much as book 1 Kagen the Dmned. I'm so disappointed that the publisher isn't doing hardback editions for the rest of the series. This phenomenal writing deserves that AND you're missing out on sales. Everyone who purchased the first in hardback will want the rest of the series in that form. Please reconsider. At least publish a limited amount.

Ah, Kagen, glad to see you're not drunk. The pacing of the story moves along much better this way. This is a solid follow-up and I'm looking forward to the next book. There are hints of a rescue that I desperately want to happen. I also love the way Maberry does his world building, or perhaps universe building is more accurate.

Another great entyr in the Kagen the Damned series and from Jonathan Maberry, I always know the story is going to be written really well done. This book had what I enjoyed from the previous entry and it was just as enjoyable as the first. The characters were what I was hoping for and was glad I got to read them again. I can't wait to read where this series will go.

"Kagen understood her motives—she was part of the religion that the Hakkians had torn down, and no doubt she lost many friends in the purges—but as he did not know actually know her, he was uncertain about many things. The main aspect that was still dark to Kagen was why him."
