Such a sweet, cute, quirky book.

This was an unexpected joy for me to read. I read it on my drive moving from DC to VA Beach. It was unintentionally (on my part) such a comforting read during life upheaval.

I would recommend Mr. & Mrs. Witch and I have every intention of looking for more books by Gwenda Bond.

Thank you to the publisher for the review copy! I just couldn't get in the mood for this one, but I do love this author!

after three years i had to DNF at 10% in as the writing reminded me too much about what the genre tries to be and i couldn't bring myself to continue. there is an audience out there for this one though with the popularity of witches.

This was actually cuter than I expected it to be.

I think the past timeline was a bit overdone and not necessary, and some of the side characters were a bit unnecessary, but this was actually a super fun time!

The premise was very interesting but everything went south for me with the dialogue. Maybe this is a me thing because I am used to high(er) fantasy books, so the non-existent magic system had me confused at many parts.

3/5 stars

I really enjoyed the idea of a 'Mr. and Mrs. Smith' remake into a romcom with witches vs. witch hunters, but this one was just okay. Most of the book was spent with the newly married couple, Savannah and Griffin, at odds on the run and occasional flashbacks of happy times. I did enjoy the overall premise and world building, however I was expecting a lot more heat and tension between our main characters that was nowhere to be found.

Savvy, a witch and covert agent, appears at the beginning of Mr. and Mrs. Witch on her wedding day. She's about to marry the love of her life, Griffin, even though he's just a regular, human guy. But just like in the film that's conjured by the book's title, our husband-to-be is more than he seems. Griffin, though human, is, in fact, an agent for an organization with a long history of hunting witches. Sure, that's in the past now, put to an end by a truce to protect the public. The organizations now focus on minimizing other supernatural threats. The fact that they're natural enemies remains. When the founders of their respective agencies are both in attendance on the blessed day of their would-be nuptials, all hell breaks loose. No secrets will be left to stand between them, but there won't be a wedding, either. After the explosion, each is tasked by their boss with terminating the other to save face. Interspersed with this spy vs spy war, we get flashbacks of the couple's history, starting with a one-night stand in London when they were both on the job, unbeknownst to the other.

This book too closely mirrored its inspiration to keep me interested. The witchy elements are fun but not novel enough to make a difference. And though ill-fated after a fashion, I think the movie worked because of the intensity between the couple on screen. I didn't find myself as convinced of the chemistry in this context, and you desperately need that buy-in to get through all the mutual murder attempts. When the first date leads to a fade-to-black situation, the preceding bland flirtation meant I wasn't even that disappointed to find the door slammed in my face-- a bad sign for me as a romance reader. Once the passion moves into the present, the door flies open, yet I wasn't any more satisfied. I'm ~far~ from against paranormals using magic, etc., to liven up the spice. However, I do get irritated when it's a shortcut to convincing us just how incredible/unattainable everyone is in bed rather than an outlet for new creativity. In this case, we fall into the former category when it's announced that witches have inherently better orgasms because of their power. It doesn't do anything for the tension or add any interest to the open-door scenes.

Beyond the lack of chemistry between the two leads in an ostensibly romantic book, I think the twin forces working against the story here were the fast pace (yet more beleaguered by two separate timelines) and the flat characters. If the main characters had anything to recommend them beyond being star-crossed spies, I might have been more interested. They have vague friend relationships mostly there for surface-level banter and no standout personality quirks to endear me to them. It means you're left with only the romantic plot, which goes by at light speed with little emotionality or tension. You'd think the mutually assured destruction or spycraft might up the ante, but those things are really just window dressing on an ultimately bland instalove plot.

I continue to appreciate that Bond's books take an inclusive look at gender and sexuality, avoiding obnoxious, offhand assumptions in the genre about who might be interested in whom or what pronouns a person might use, or how they might prefer to dress. In terms of representation, Savvy's bi, and her necromancer ex shows up at one point to add to the chaos.

Here's the thing. If you like cutesy, witchy romances emphasizing spice and fun that you can read in one sitting, I think this could be a good read for you. That seemingly specific yet somehow crowded genre hasn't gone well for me in the past, so take my judgment with that caveat. Thanks to SMP Romance for my copy to read and review!

AHHH! This was so fun!! Gwenda Bond did an amazing job with the world building here! The "powers" or I guess I should say Magic are so well done and the characters are so fun!

Thank you St. Martin’s Press and NetGalley for the e-ARC of the book.

On their wedding day Savannah and Griffin find out that they belong to rivaling groups - witches and witch hunters. Now they have to decide whether their love or dedication to faction will win.

This story gave a cute twist of the Mr. and Mrs. Smith story with paranormal vibes. It was perfect for which season.

Sadly this book just wasn’t for me. I know people loved it but I struggled to get into it. The writing wasn’t my favorite and I couldn’t connect with the main characters. The plot itself wasn’t strong enough to keep me invested.

Okay.. What to say about this book? The concept of the story is actually pretty funny: she is a witch, he is a witch hunter and they find out about each others secret life during the wedding ceremony. That certainly gave an explosive party. As to say: the book really started with a bang! But after the bang the story started to sizzle a little.

The story consists of the current timeline and a lot of flash backs. Resulting in a total slowdown of the story, since the total build up of the explosive wedding needed to be explained. Aaaand since I don’t have a lot of patience (and a very large to read pile), this book ended up at the bottom of my pile.

Months later, I started reading again, only to realize I forgot the first part of the book (sigh). So, I had to backtrack a few chapters to get back into the story again. This time I was able to finish it in one go. The plot was actually pretty okay, but you need to get past the first part of the story first. After that, you are good to go. Three out of five stars from me and a special thank you to Netgalley for providing the arc.

Supernatural retelling of Mr. & Mrs. Smith with satisfying outcome. Well, this is extremely enjoyable, action packed, smart, exciting popcorn fantasy/ romance reading! So much witchy fun!

I wanted to like this one so much, but the characters and their relationship just didn't work for me and the pacing felt off. I was curious enough about how they would solve their Mr. And Mrs. Smith witch/witch hunter issues that I read the whole thing instead of DNFing, but even the ending felt very anticlimactic after all the build up.

I love the Charmed vibes this gives off. It seems so impossible that they could hide something like this from each other, but real life is like that too. I mean not witches. Probably not witches...

Thank you Netgalley for sending me an arc of Mr. and Mrs. Witch
(yes I am behind on my arcs, but I am catching up)

First things first
-Tall Curvy queen
-A Short King

I'M IN LOVE!!!
Seriously I have never read a romance book before where the main male love interest is shorter than the female lead character, and this makes my heart so happy.

I requested this book because like many I am a hoe for Mr. and Mrs. Smith. I adore spy books/ movies or hidden identity books/ movies. I was not disappointed.

Overall the book was enjoyable and fun to read. It got just a TINY bit boring near the middle which is why it's 4 stars and not 5, but I did like it.

A witchy re-telling of Mr. and Mrs. Smith.

At the altar, Griffin and Savannah realize they are on separate sides of a centuries old feud - witches vs. hunters. The wedding is off but when Griffin and Savannah are both targeted, they (and their friends) must band together to find out the truth behind both of their organizations. And maybe they'll even make it to the altar again.

Pros:
- Funny and witty banter.
- Sweet and loving connection between the FMC and MMC.
- Supportive and loving family written well.
- The Familiars!! THIS is why I read Gwenda Bond. She just does absurdity in the real world so well.
- The spicy scenes were very well written. Hot and sexy while also being sweet, fun, and intimate.

Cons:
- The ending seemed a bit rushed and the forgiveness for some of the betrayal too easy.

Overall, it is a funny, sweet, and intriguing read!

Unfortunately, I was unable to get into this book. I did really care for any of the characters or feel connected to them. I was quite bored at times and found myself skimming through parts.

I think this book had potential but it was just poorly executed. The writing style was really choppy and the dialogue felt quite off. It seemed like the author tried to do much at the cost of character development. I also think we could have done without the flashbacks, I really did not like them!

Thank you St. Martin's Press and NetGalley.

I really enjoyed this book. It had just enough romance and magic to it! I would definitely recommend this book to all my family and friends.

This one was only fine for me. I really liked the idea, but didn't end up loving these two characters enough to make it work.
