Just as the title implies, this was very much the premise of Mr. & Mrs. Smith but with magic and supernaturals. I liked Savvy and Griffin both as characters and as a couple. They obviously had great chemistry despite them being mortal enemies. I was a little confused with the past POVs because of the constant transitions, but it did give good insights. Overall very entertaining and fun read! I voluntarily reviewed this after receiving a free copy.

Such a great book. The characters had wonderful personalities and were very relatable beside the witch part.

Every once in a while, I come across a book that begs, BEGS, to be a tv series, or a graphic novel. Gwenda Bond’s Mr. & Mrs. Witch would translate so well into a visual medium. I keep throwing in graphic novel as an option, because some of the more fantastical elements would need very good special effects. I would love to see Mother Circe’s cabin on chicken legs, the witches flying on brooms, and the familiars shifting forms.
The book opens on Savvy and Griffin’s wedding day. Savvy’s friends and her mother are not on board with the wedding, and neither are Griffin’s friends and family (except his mother). Savvy and Griffin belong to opposing organizations, Savvy is a witch with C.R.O.N.E. and Griffin belongs to a group that protects the world from the supernatural, especially from witches. Neither knows of the other’s affiliation, and each is sure they can keep their identity hidden from the other.
Before vows can be exchanged, the handbasket to hell express arrives, secret identities are exposed, vows of revenge are made, and everyone retreats to their separate headquarters. The leader of each organization, Mother Circe for the witches and the Butcher for the hunters, demands that Savvy and Griffin kill each other. When that doesn’t happen quickly, they are both kicked out of their respective organizations and bounties are placed on their heads. Almost everyone thinks there is something fishy about how fast Mother Circe and the Butcher turn on Savvy and Griffin, and indeed there is. Among the current events, we get flashbacks to how they met and fell in love.
Even with the flashbacks, the story moves quickly. I struggled a bit with the narrative point of view. Mr. & Mrs. Witch is told by a close third person present narrator, so we are outside of the point of view character’s head, but we know what they are thinking and feeling. This pov left me feeling at a distance at times, so I was reading for plot, not emotional connections. Sometimes this works for me and sometimes it doesn’t. This time it mostly did. I think part of the reason I kept wanting it to be in a more visual format was because I had to work harder to engage with the text. But I really do want to see Mother Circe’s chicken house in action, and Diego’s bottle trees, and to see the familiars in all their shapes. Struggles with the narrator aside, I did enjoy this. I do want to note that the two organizations seem to be divided on gender lines. That may be a result of the rot at the top. I don’t get the sense that Bond herself is a gender essentialist.
CW: attempted murder, murder witnessed in the past, necromancy, implied abuse of familiars
I received this as an advance reader copy from St. Martin’s Press and NetGalley. My opinions are my own, freely and honestly given.

Mr. & Mrs. Witch was just such a fun read! Savvy Wilde, a powerful witch, is set to marry the love of her life, Griffin Carter—only he doesn’t know about her powers. He has secrets of his own though—he works for a witch hunting agency. Only on their wedding day, their two organizations clash and now they’re the ones being hunted. This book is funny and original. It’s bright and witty with such great characters. Griffin, in his devotion for Savvy, is so swoon-worthy. He’s romantic and sharp. Savvy too is headstrong and lively. And the side characters add so much to the story—they’re such wonderful support system to Savvy and Griffin and they all so eccentric and fun in their own right. The magic too was really good and I loved the dynamics of this magical community! Genuinely just a fun ride!

Mr. & Mrs. Witch takes us on a journey of love, deception, betrayal and secrets through dual POV and mixed timelines telling the story with flashbacks in the year leading up to the present.
In this Paranormal take on Mr and Mrs Smith we have Covert Responses to Occult Nightmares by Enchantresses (C.R.O.N.E.) operative, Savvy and Humans Undertaking Nocturnal Terror and Evil Reduction (H.U.N.T.E.R.) Agent, Griffin.
Savvy and Griffin fall madly in love but they both harbor secrets that blow up on their wedding day. Once their jobs and families are brought into the light will they be able to see through the lies and work together to take out an old yet new common enemy?

I loved the premise so much. However, this book fell into the trap of trying to do too much with action and not giving as much to character development. The story moves fast but I know very little about these characters. I need a connection and I got nothing.

Savvy and Griffin are walking down the aisle when their secrets leak at the worst possible time. She’s a witch and he’s a witch hunter- sworn enemies. As the ceremony devolves into chaos, can Savvy and Griffin ever find their way back to each other? To try, they’ll have to re-examine everything they took for granted about how they met and fell in love. Is their love stronger than a decades old enmity?
Mr. & Mrs. Witch was such a fun adventure! I could see the nods to Mr. & Mrs. Smith, but the story stands on its own. I really liked the magic system and how Griffin and Savvy had to work together to uncover the truth. I enjoyed the twist at the end and the reason behind the chaos. The one thing I struggled a little bit with was the switching back between present and past. It felt a little disjointed at times. I really enjoyed the chemistry between Griffin and Savvy, including the specific details like meeting at Little Shop of Stories!
I recommend Mr. & Mrs. Witch for readers looking for a lighthearted, engaging, magical adventure! I enjoyed Mr. & Mrs. Witch and look forward to reading what Gwenda Bond writes next! I hope we get to see more stories from this world.
Mr & Mrs. Witch is available March 7, 2023. Thank you to Gwenda Bond, St. Martin’s Griffin, and Netgalley for a free ARC in exchange for an honest review.
For publisher: My review will be posted on Instagram, Goodreads, Amazon, Storygraph, and Barnes & Noble etc

This was a very middle-of-the-road book for me. But I do know people I can recommend this book to that will love and enjoy it.

This book is exactly what it says it is, I just didn’t like it very much. It was the characters for me. I just didn’t connect with either of them. I might give this another try on audio some day but I was just not vibing at all after the first half.

Very Mr and Mrs Smith, this action packed love story has all the feels, friends, and family you could wish for.

Mr. & Mrs. Witch by Gwenda Bond
Savannah Wilde is a witch and Griffin Carter is a top agent to primarily hunt witches. They meet and fall in love and plan to marry. Neither knows the others' secret. Everything blows up at the wedding and they are ordered to end each other. They have to work together to save themselves and their family and friends.
Reasons I enjoyed this book:
Action-packed Wonderful characters Romantic Page-turner Happily Ever After Entertaining Funny.

Thank you to Netgally,St. Martin's Press, and St. Martin's Griffin for allowing me to read this book.
What if a witch is about to marry a witch hunter and neither know their true identities? You would get Mr. & Mrs. Witch. I really enjoyed the the permise of the book. However, some of the choices took me out of the story. For example, the novel is told in a non-linear fashion switching back and forth between the past and present. I didn't really care about the past. I was more invested in present. I could have personally done without the past story line. It felt more of the action and tension exixted within the present story line.
Both Savvy and Griffin were lovely characters. I do wish there was a little more tension between the two.
It was a fun fast-paced read perfect for any time of the year. I personally would read it during spooky season.

This book started off strong! The introduction to the plot and characters was smooth, funny, and engaging. It was easy to feel the connection between the two main characters that would set up the rest of the book, especially with the flashbacks to give insight into their whirlwind relationship. The problem is that the book is as whirlwind as the timeline of the main character's relationship.
The story seemed to move at lightning speed, which was fine at first but then dragged on. It was hard to stay engaged and immersed when things were being introduced and dropped immediately just to allow more things to happen. It just begged the question of what would the story have been if a little more time had been spent on certain plot points.
The information dump when it came to world-building was nice until it wasn't and became overwhelming midway through. The ending felt so incredibly rushed that it entirely cheapened the story and relationships for me.
Overall I'd give this book 3.75 stars out of 5 because there were definitely issues but it was still good.

Mr. and Mrs. Witch was a magical version of a Mr. and Mrs. Smith type story. As the main characters are ready to celebrate their marriage, they realize that neither is who they seem and that both are magical and their families hate each other. Lots of plotting and intrigue push the story along until everything gets straightened out in the end. This was an entertaining and fun adventure. Thank you to Net Galley for letting me read this book in return for my honest opinion.

This book is very much as advertised - a witchy spinoff of the Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie film, Mr. and Mrs. Smith. The writing is fast paced action, like the film, so it was a very easy and fun read.
Unfortunately, I struggled with the overall lack of depth. The characters were caricatures, and I struggled to emotionally connect with them or their relationships. The magic system was really nonexistent, written rather blandly. Its written often as a statement, like “Savvy magicked this.” I wanted to know how that worked and what it entailed and what the limitations were!
The action suffered from this too. The H.U.N.T.E.R. organization is badass; they deal with magical threats and monsters! But the writing was just very “they took care if this.” WHERE IS THE FLAVOUR?
Overall, this was a popcorn-flick of a book - fun, fast, but ultimately empty and forgettable.

Savvy and Griffin are about to get married, but right as she's approaching the alter they discover they're from competing supernatural organizations! She's a witch who's a part of C.R.O.N.E and he's an agent from the aptly named H.U.N.T.E.R. In that moment, the two of them have to confront the fact that their relationship was founded on a number of lies and figure out what to do about the fact that they're mortal enemies.
As a fan of supernatural rom coms (like Gwenda Bond's Not Your Average Hot Guy books before this), alternate universes, and tropes, I loved this premise! And Gwenda Bond does a great job with building out the supporting characters in her novels to give us lovable and complicated friends like Diego and Brie and endearing animal companions like Paris.
I have to admit, this one took a bit for me to get into. The first eight chapters or so (and they're short chapters so don't let this discourage you!) were mostly setup that was a little tough for me to get through. But once we got into the Mr. & Mrs. Smith of it all, the book really heated up for me and I had a great time!
Would recommend to any fans of fast-paced contemporary fantasy romcoms!

I LOVED this. It would be such a good halloween read and I’m gonna buy a physical copy to reread this halloween. I love Griffin and Savvy so much, I love the witches, I love the forbidden romance. The plot was so interesting to me and I just really enjoyed this, I flew through it honestly. I can’t wait to read more from this author. Thank you SO much NetGalley for providing me with the arc.

Cozy witch adventure. This was cute and sweet with fun quirky side characters. The book switches time periods with the fast paced action scenes of the now and try the past year as try the two main characters get too know each other and fall in love. The premises is fairly simplistic and made for just fun reading that had me laughing out loud in certain places. I loved all the animals and friends that were in the stories. The attraction that these two felt for each really made this a must read for those that like romance, action and a little witchy magic that results it true love.

This book is so much fun! I love how it’s told both in the present and using flashbacks. I was so pleasantly surprised with this book! (I was less than thrilled with her two previous books, including Not Your A weave Hot Guy).

I had pretty high hopes for Mr & Mrs Witch, and ultimately, the book didn’t live up to them. While this paranormal romance book is heavily (and I mean heavily) inspired by Mr. and Mrs. Smith, it just fell a little short of being something worth recommending. If you’ve seen the aforementioned movie just once, then you’ll know where this book is going. Literally. It’s almost an exact copy of the first part of the movie, but with witches.
Savvy and her beau, Griffin, are both living secret lives from one another. Savvy is a witch, who also happens to be a sort of spy who goes out and neutralizes harmful magic. Griffin does much of the same thing, but also hunts down witches. It is unclear if he’s ever killed a witch, or if he just sort of stops them using their magic and sends them on their way. (This should have been a bigger deal!) Their secret lives come to light on the day of their wedding, and well, everything goes to hell in a hand basket, as it were. Savvy is a sassy, does-what-she-wants sort of woman. I liked her! I also really loved that her familiar was a huge black panther. Way cool. Griffin was sort of a limp rag of a person, but with some small interesting bits. We really don’t see much of who he is, unfortunately. And yes, this book is dual POV, so that leaves a lot out. Either way, they were decently cute together, but there were huge swathes of the book that felt unrealistic. But Jordyn, you say, this is a paranormal romance novel, it’s not supposed to be realistic! Uh the RELATIONSHIP can be realistic, my friends. And that’s what I’m talking about here.
Could you really stay with someone else after finding out both of you were lying about almost everything? I’m not sure I could. The steamy scenes were pretty gosh darn steamy — I think there were three? Total? Nothing was closed door, thankfully! There’s a good one that takes place in a car after a chase. That one was memorable!
There were some bits of neat world building sprinkled throughout the book — I loved all of the familiars, personally. I loved the idea of CRONE and HUNTER. But other than that, this one just fell a little flat for me. I wanted it to be better than it was — especially the ending, which feels more than a little convenient or contrived. Not going to spoil it for anyone because we don’t do that here, but I did find myself wondering out loud, “That’s it?” Oh well.
